Layin 'da SmackDown - SmackDown Live recap for July 25, 2017

Kevin Owens shows up to start tonight's show. Owens says holding the WWE United States Championship just feels right, and says that he is once again United States Champion. He proved to everyone that if your heart is pure and you are a good person, good things can happen, and he can now defend the title with the pride and honor it deserves. He reinstates the Kevin Owens Open Challenge, which starts next week. Upon the groans of the crowd disappointed by the fact that it is not happening right now, Owens says that he would never defend the title in front of a bunch of hicks from Richmond, Virginia. Suddenly, AJ Styles shows up. Owens says Styles should be here to congratulate him and say that he is the better man. Styles says he came out here to get his rematch for the United States title, but Owens says he is not defending it in front to tonight's crowd. The moment is suddenly shaken by the return of Chris Jericho, who has not been seen in the WWE in the last few months. Kevin Owens is angered by Jericho's sudden return, and Jericho says he is here for his rematch for the United States title, but Styles says things have changed and that he is next in line as he has recently lost it. Jericho thinks Styles is cutting in line, and puts Styles on The List of Jericho. Meanwhile, Owens is heading to the back, but Commissioner Shane McMahon shows up and tells him to wait, as he has an announcement concerning the United States title. Shane puts Jericho, Styles and Owens in a Triple Threat Match for the United States title tonight.

"The King of Strong Style" Shinsuke Nakamura beats Baron Corbin.

Dasha Fuentes interviews Naomi. She says that she will not let Natalya disrespect her after refusing to shake her hand last night. Suddenly, Natalya shows up, and says that Naomi turned the SmackDown Women's title into a kid's toy and that she does not respect tradition. She plans to take the title back, and restore its honor, but Naomi tells her that she is stuck so far into the Hart Dungeon that she can't see the here and now. Naomi says she respects tradition, and at the same time, she placed a piece of herself in the title. She tells Natalya that if she keeps this up, she will feel the glow. Natalya leaves, then Carmella arrives and reminds Naomi that she is always one step away from ending her reign as SmackDown Women's Champion with the Money In The Bank Contract.

Charlotte and Becky Lynch beat Tamina and Lana with a big boot from Charlotte to Lana. After the match, Tamina is disgusted with Lana.

Jinder Mahal shows up. He brags about crushing Randy Orton's legacy on Sunday night and how Orton failed to beat him at his own game on his turf in his type of match. He says he will stay WWE Champion for as long as he desires. After demanding to know who he will face at SummerSlam, he speaks to his own people in his own language of Punjabi until John Cena shows up. Jinder says he knows what Cena is going to say, but Cena tells him to stop and that he's a crap mind reader. He congratulates Jinder, and respects that Jinder is in the best shape of his life and that the WWE Championship means so much to him. He then mockingly introduces himself to Jinder Mahal, saying that Jinder probably knows his voice from pistachio commercials, and says he doesn't care what he has or who he brings as all of it will not be enough. At SummerSlam, Jinder will be facing Super Cena, and Super Cena will be leaving SummerSlam a 17-time World Champion in WWE. Cena leaves, but General Manager Daniel Bryan shows up. He congratulates Cena and Jinder for their wins at Battleground, but reminds Cena that he and Commissioner Shane McMahon is the one that makes the matches around here, and that even if his name is John Cena, he still has to earn opportunities. He tells Cena that he performed brilliantly at Battleground, and tells him that next week, he will face a manw ho also did well tonight: "The King of Strong Style" Shinsuke Nakamura. The winner of this unexpected dream match will go on to face Jinder Mahal for the WWE Championship at SummerSlam.

Commissioner Shane McMahon is on the phone when an angry Kevin Owens shows up, complaining that he is defending the WWE United States Championship in a Triple Threat Match because he and General Manager Daniel Bryan don't like him. Shane admits that he and Daniel Bryan do not like him, but he reminds him of Chris Jericho and AJ Styles' rematch clauses. He tells Owens he cares about giving the fans the best matches, and that he does not care who is United States champ as long as the title is defending . Kevin Owens says he doesn't give a damn about the fans, and that he doesn't give a damn about him whether he is Commissioner or not.

Sami Zayn and "The Perfect Ten" Tye Dillinger beat Mike Kanellis and Aiden English.

The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso) attack The New Day (Kofi Kingston, Big E, Xavier Woods) before they can even come to the ring.

Renee Young interviews "The King of Strong Style" Shinsuke Nakamura, who says that next week, John Cena won't see him, and that he will be seeing Jinder Mahal at SummerSlam.

AJ Styles beats Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho to become the WWE United States Champion for a second time after sending Owens out of the ring following a pop-up powerbomb to Jericho (in response to Owens trying to pick the bones from a move by Styles earlier in the match). After the match, Owens says it is not fair that he lost the title as he wasn't ready, was forced to defend the title by Commissioner Shane McMahon and that Styles stole his victory from him, and says the people dislike him because he is better than they ever will be. He then says that what is fair is him getting his rematch against Styles for the United States title next week.

Here are the top 10 moments from tonight's show!
