Layin' da SmackDown - SmackDown Live recap for July 11, 2017

We see AJ Styles beat Kevin Owens to win the WWE United States Championship in Madison Square City in New York City last Friday during the introduction to tonight's show.

AJ Styles shows up to start tonight's show. He says that if Kevin Owens was the face of America, he is a bit of an upgrade. He then says that it is not about Kevin Owens, but the United States title. He mentions John Cena's U.S. Open Challenge, and says it is time to bring it back, as the US title has been overlooked for too long, and from now on, whenever you see someone with the US title around their waist, you know they are the best. He then issues an open challenge, which is answered by John Cena. Cena asks Styles if he allowed to answer the open challenge, as a reference to Kevin Owens not wanting to face AJ Styles or Chris Jericho will US champ. Styles says he's allowed to take him on. John Cena accepts the challenge, then Kevin Owens shows up and says nobody wants to see them in a match again, and that everyone should care about him. He tells Cena to get out of the ring. Cena tells Owens the problem is that he doesn't want to see him, but that he can't see him, and if he wants him out of the ring, he will have to get in the ring and do something about it. After that, he'll go through AJ Styles. All of a sudden, Rusev Spears Cena from behind, and Owens gets in the ring to fight Styles. Owens hits Styles with a pop-up powerbomb, while Rusev beats Cena down and puts him in the Accolade.

John Cena and AJ Styles vs. Kevin Owens is official for later tonight.

Jinder Mahal beats "The Perfect Ten" Tye Dillinger. After the match, Mahal says he speaks the truth week after week but is still disrespected, and that everyone still cheers for Orton. If Orton wants to make his living a living hell, he will bring Hell with him, as next week, he will bring the Punjabi Prison with him.

Xavier Woods beats Jey Uso after Big E, Kofi Kingston and Jimmy Uso are all ejected following Jimmy tripping Xavier Woods and Big E and Kofi trying to confront him for it. After the match, Xavier Woods has to hightail it out of the ring after Jimmy Uso rushes into the ring.

Commissioner Shane McMahon talks to General Manager Daniel Bryan on the phone, then Naomi shows up wanting to know who she will defend the SmackDown Women's Championship against. Charlotte, Becky Lynch, Natalya, Tamina and Lana all show up, and Shane announces a Fatal 5-Way to determine a #1 contender, with the winner facing Naomi for the SmackDown Women's title at SummerSlam. After this, Charlotte wants to know how Lana is in this match, while Tamina, Natalya and Lana tell her to shut up while Natalya tells Charlotte she is riding on family coattails. Becky notes the irony of Natalya being part of the Hart family. Shane then makes Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch vs. Natalya and Tamina for later tonight. Everyone leaves, then Carmella shows up with a petition from her attorney asking that James Ellsworth be unsuspended. Shane takes the petition and tears it up, and tells her to take that to her attorney.

Renee Young interviews Baron Corbin. Corbin says he is afraid of what he will do to "The King of Strong Style" Shinsuke Nakamura, who will learn that he is not Mr. Money In The Bank and that it will be "sayonara" for him.

"The King of Strong Style" Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Baron Corbin ends before it can begin when Nakamura attacks Corbin before the bell rings, and referees and officials have to pull both men apart.

AJ Styles meets up with John Cena in the locker room. Cena tells him the open challenge is a great idea, but tells him to hold off on it until he's gone again because he knows he will accept the challenge. Styles says he knew he would be the first person to accept the open challenge, and that he will be holding the United States title for a long time. He has also not forgotten what happened the last time they were both in the ring together. Cena says he respects Styles for wanting to take on the best, and that respect is earned, not given. He tells him he will handle his business with the US title later. Tonight, he has his back.

Cedric Alexander says that tonight on 205 Live, he will face Noam Dar in an "I Quit" Match and make him quit, putting an end to everything between him and the team of Alicia Fox and Noam Dar once and for all.

Tamina and Natalya beat Becky Lynch and Charlotte. During the match, Lana shows up and watches the match from ringside.

Maria Kanellis heads to the male locker room, looking for Sami Zayn and wanting an apology from him. Chad Gable shows up and tells her that he is not there when asked if he is in the locker room. She tells Gable to tell Sami Zayn that "The First Lady of Wrestling" is looking for him.

Sami Zayn finds Maria and Mike Kanellis. Maria demands an apology. Sami says he's done that twice, and finds an apology pointless. Sami says it's them who are in the way, not the other way around. He comes to the conclusion that Mike is the lover, and Maria is the fighter. Maria slaps Sami and Mike hits him with a vase. Maria tells Sami that was brought to him by the power of love, and that sometimes, love hurts.

It's time for The Fashion Files, this time entitled Runway Walker: Fashion Rangers. Breezango (Tyler Breeze and Fandango) are dressed up as cowboys on hobby horses. Zack Ryder almost gets brought in for not wearing Armani. Mojo Rawley shows up, and says he and Zack are looking for Shane. Breezango think they attacked them weeks ago, but Mojo Rawley says they wouldn't consider something that shady. After The Hype Bros (Zack Ryder and Mojo Rawley) leave, Breezango find out that Fandango's horse Tully has been stolen. We then see a screen saying "The Fashion X Files: The Truth Is Not H."

John Cena and AJ Styles beat Rusev and Kevin Owens. After the match, Cena and Styles stare down. Styles raises up the United States title, and Cena raises his hand.

On Talking Smack, John Cena says he is still a threat in the WWE despite being gone for extended periods of time.

Here are the top 10 moments from tonight's show!
