Layin' da SmackDown - SmackDown recap for May 5, 2016

Chris Jericho starts tonight's show with The Highlight Reel. He brags about his attack on Dean Ambrose on Raw, then introdcues tonight's guest: Sami Zayn. Jericho then shows the footage from Raw where Zayn beat up Kevin Owens and then lifted up the WWE Intercontinental Championship, then calls Sami a sore loser and a dirty thief before asking what kind of human being he is. Sami Zayn says he's a pretty decent human being, and that Kevin Owens did beat him fair and square, then says that if he is treated like a piece of garbage, he won't go away so easily. Before he can explain lifting up the Intercontinental Championship, The Miz and Maryse show up. Miz says Jericho's show can wait, then tells Sami Zayn not to touch his Intercontinental Championship or else bad things will happen to him. Zayn touches it repeatedly anyway. Jericho says that if somebody touched his $15,000 jacket like Sami touched Miz's title, he'd do something. Sami Zayn then makes fun of his jacket, and Jericho finally has enough and leaves the show. The Miz then calls Sami Zayn "disrespectful," and tells him that he has swam with the biggest fish in the 11 years he's been in the WWE. Zayn touches the title again and says "Let's go for a swim." Maryse has enough, and tells Sami that Miz will teach him a lesson. Sami says that's a great idea, and challenges him to a match right now. That doesn't last long, as Miz retreats to the outside of the ring.

Kevin Owens guests on commentary midway through the first match.

Sami Zayn vs. The Miz ends with Kevin Owens jumping into the ring and attacking Sami Zayn. As Owens and Miz attack Sami, Cesaro shows up and attacks everyone in the ring before lifting the WWE Intercontinental Championship into the air.

AJ Styles talks with Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson. AJ Styles says he wants to be WWE World Heavyweight Champion his way...on his own. Gallows and Anderson tell AJ Styles that he's going to have to take risks and get extreme. AJ Styles then decides to have a chat with Roman Reigns.

The Vaudevillains (Aiden English and Simon Gotch) beat The Social Outcasts (Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel). After the match, Colin Cassady shows up and fights The Vaudevillains, and easily stands tall. Curtis Axel rushes back into the ring to make fun of The Vaudevillains only to run into an East River Crossing from Big Cass.

Natalya and Becky Lynch beat Charlotte and Emma with a Sharpshooter to Emma.

Roman Reigns is talking with The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso) when AJ Styles shows up. AJ tells him he took the high road Monday, but next time, things will be different. He then asks if Roman Reigns if he'll be ringside for the main event between The Usos and the team of Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson. Roman Reigns says he's the champ, and he'll be wherever he wants to be. AJ Styles says he'll see him out there.

Darren Young has found a life coach: Bob Backlund, who wants to be more of a wrestling coach. The first rule? Wrestling is life.

Rusev beats Zack Ryder with the Accolade. All of a sudden, Kalisto appears after the match and does a hit and run on Rusev.

Goldango (Goldust and Fandago) are doing some dance moves when Gorgeous Truth (R-Truth and Tyler Breeze) show up. After an impromptu dance contest, Fandango challenges R-Truth to a tag team match between Goldango and Gorgeous Truth next week on SmackDown. R-Truth says it's on.

Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson vs. The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso) ends after Karl Anderson boots Roman Reigns in the face, causing Roman to fight Anderson and start a brawl. AJ Styles says that they will finish what they started, and the match becomes a six-man tag match.
