Honor Roll - Ring of Honor recap for September 15, 2018

Caprice Coleman guests on commentary for this week's show.

Jay Lethal shows up to start tonight's show. He says that for years, people have asked him what his favorite match in ROH, and he has looked back on some of the matches that he has had. He then says there is a new one to add to the list, and that his favorite match is his 30-minute Iron Man Match against Johnathan Gresham from last week. Lethal says the match reminds him of what ROH was built on and why he got interested in wrestling, as all you need is two great wrestler wanting to prove who the best is. At the end of the match, Gresham earned his respect as well as a good friend, and tells him he is there for him before saying he wants more matches for the ROH World Championship like that one. He then issues "a Lethal challenge" not only to the locker room, but to any locker room and any wrestler anywhere who feels they have mastered their craft, simply saying "Come and get it." Suddenly, "The Aerial Assassin" Will Ospreay is seen on the video screen, having faced Lethal in his last match in ROH, wanting to go through Lethal to wear ROH on his back. He challenges Lethal for the ROH World Championship at Death Before Dishonor. Lethal accepts the challenge.

We hear from SoCal Uncensored ("Almighty" Christopher Daniels, "The Heavy Metal Rebel" Frankie Kazarian, Scorpio Sky). Scorpio Sky says it all started with The Addiction (Daniels and Kazarian) versus The Briscoes (Jay and Mark Briscoe), but Punishment Martinez had to inject himself into this. For this, he is glad to join in, as nobody plays it better than SCU.

We hear from The Briscoes (Jay and Mark Briscoe), who plan to show SoCal Uncensored ("Almighty" Christopher Daniels, "The Heavy Metal Rebel" Frankie Kazarian, Scorpio Sky) how they get it done. Punishment Martinez tells SCU to prepare to be punished.

Brandi Rhodes guests on commentary for the next match.

Sumie Sakai beats Tasha Steelz in a Proving Grounds Match. (Had Tash Steelz won, she would have received a ROH Women of Honor Championship title shot in the near future.)

We hear from Bullet Club. "The Villain" Marty Scurll says that when you talk about the most popular groups in Japan, they are #1, and at the very bottom of the pile in New Japan is CHAOS. "The American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes says they can come to Las Vegas and enjoy the buffet, but CHAOS is no match for Bullet Club.

Ian Ricobonni interviews Sumie Sakai in the ring. After Sumie Sakai's recent defenses of the title all over the world, the ROH Women of Honor Championship is officially known as the ROH Women of Honor World Championship. Sumie says she been through a lot in America and that this is her home, and nobody can know how happy she is to be where she is today. She says she will do her best as champion, but there is one more person she wants to face: Tennille Dashwood. Tennille shows up, and says that sounds like a challenge to her and that she has the perfect place for it: Death Before Dishonor. Tennille says she respects Sumie Sakai and what she has done for the ROH women's division, but that does not mean she will take the title from around her waist. Both women shake hands, and the match is official.

We hear from Kenny King, and while he likes "Hangman" Adam Page, he is on a "Bullet Club baggin' spree" and when he is done stomping his gold locks to the ground, he will be looking ahead to Jushin "Thunder" Liger.

Ian Ricobonni interviews Jonathan Gresham. Gresham has heard what Jay Lethal has had to say. Suddenly, Bully Ray shows up, and tells Ian Ricobonni to say everything he has said about him on commentary to his face. Ricobonni says he does not want any trouble, then Bully Ray bullies Ricobonni out of the ring. Gresham then confronts Bully Ray about interrupting his interview, and Bully Ray decides to be the interview him now. Bully Ray claims that he single-handedly sold out Madison Square Garden for the company and that everyone is showing up for a guy like him and not a guy like Gresham. Bully Ray then brings up the Piper's Pit interview with Frankie Williams, comparing Gresham to Williams in the process, saying that if the people really loved him, they would have been giving him a standing ovation the second he walked in and says he doesn't see the fans doing that for him now. The fans respond by giving Gresham a standing ovation to spite Bully Ray, and dares Gresham to take the microphone out of his hand if he wants it that badly. Gresham simply takes it, and says he knows Bully Ray is looking for a fight, because he knows that he cannot beat Bully Ray in a fight. However, he challenges Bully Ray to a wrestling match, saying that he knows he could win it and that he has seen D-Von carry Bully Ray through multiple matches for the last twenty years on national television. This leads to a "D-Von" chant from the crowd before Gresham says that he stands by his challenge, and if Bully Ray beats him, he will shake his hand like a honorable man in the center of the ring. However, if he beats Bully Ray, then Bully Ray will have to shake his hand like a man. Bully Ray demands a referee come to the ring right now, and the match becomes official. As soon as the match starts, however, Bully Ray kicks Gresham in the groin and pushes referee Todd Sinclair, tells Gresham that he is the better wrestler, then smacks Gresham with his chain. Flip Gordon runs in, but Bully Ray takes him out, and Jay Lethal then runs in the ring and brawls with Bully Ray. Suddenly, "The Last Real Man" Silas Young shows up and hits Misery on Jay Lethal, leading to the crowd chanting "Fuck you, Silas!," which is noticeably censored on the broadcast. Bully tries to give Silas a hug, but Silas pushes Bully Ray and walks off.

Backstage, Jay Lethal meets with Johnathan Gresham, and says that he is sick and tired of Bully Ray sticking his nose in other people's business, and if "The Last Real Man" Silas Young wants to bring up past grievances, then they can finish this once and for all. Gresham says he did not come to ROH for this, and Lethal challenges Silas and Bully Ray to a tag team match against him and Gresham for next week.

We hear from Chris Sabin, who says that Punishment Martinez attacked Alex Shelley and re-injured his jaw to play mind games with him, but he knows that Punishment Martinez is worried and insecure as he has ne never been in the ring with anyone like him. At Death Before Dishonor, all of his money is on him and he is walking out as ROH World Television Champion.

Chris Sabin guests on commentary for the next match.

SoCal Uncensored ("Almighty" Christopher Daniels, "The Heavy Metal Rebel" Frankie Kazarian, Scorpio Sky) beat The Briscoes (Jay and Mark Briscoe) and Punishment Martinez. During the match, Jay Briscoe brings a steel chair into the match, but Kazarian ducks and Jay hits referee Paul Turner instead. This leads to Kazarian and Scorpio Sky having the chair thrown at their heads, and Chris Sabin runs from the commentary table to the ring to attack Martinez by using his shoes as weapons before chasing him to the back. Kazarian and Daniels then hit Mark Brisco with a double-team moonsault into a Meltzer Driver to get the win after senior referee Todd Sinclair runs in to make the count.
