Layin 'da SmackDown - SmackDown recap for April 18, 2025

Before the show starts, LA Knight attacks Tama Tonga and slams a car door into his right arm.

Seth "Freakin'" Rollins heads to the ring to start tonight's show. He sits down in the middle of the ring cross-legged and addresses CM Punk, references his initial AEW return, stating Punk only came back because someone wrote him a big, fat check. He then says that Punk only returned to WWE because he was written another big, fat check, then says Punk likes to pretend to care about the fans and about WWE and declares him a liar, a fraud and a coward. Rollins also says that Roman Reigns also pretends to care about the fans and does not even pretend to care about WWE, and only cares about himself, stating "Roman Reigns is in the Roman Reigns business." After claiming that Roman loves it when the fans love him, Rollins says that only he knows everything about sacrifice, as opposed to Punk and Roman, who he claims knows nothing. He then states that it all started with his debut in The Shield as a shield for Punk, and says that despite his sacrifices, he got none of the credit, as the camera was always on Roman Reigns, who he says was hand-picked. Rollins then talks about how he made every show and sacrificed everything that he had while Punk was being chanted for, and even when his knee was hanging on by a thread as his father died of cancer, he was there to ensure Roman Reigns lost. He says the story started twelve years ago when Paul Heyman him and Roman into WWE, and that it will end at WrestleMania 41, and he promises that he will do exactly what he has done all those years and lay it all on the line and sacrifice all that he has to ensure that the business moves forward, and that is not a prediction, that is a spoiler.

Carmelo Hayes last eliminates Andrade after Andrade leaps onto the middle rope as he and Carmelo go at it to win the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. At the beginning of the match, R-Truth takes the apple out of Carlito's hand and munches on it, then eliminates Carlito before getting eliminated in turn by The Miz. During the match, Rey Fenix is eliminated after El Grande Americano (who is not in the match, even though Chad Gable is) suddenly shows up and trips Fenix off the top rope.

She says there is no point in talking about the past anymore, and this weekend, she gets back what she wants and does what she has to do to become a three-time World Women's Champion. Iyo Sky suddenly arrives, but before she can utter a word, Bianca Belair also makes her way to the ring. Bianca says she was showing up after her name was mentioned, then says that tonight will be her last night on SmackDown when she wins the Women's World Championship and refuses to give it up any time soon. Naomi suddenly shows up and says she has been trying to get to Bianca, but Bianca tells Naomi that she knows what she did and that she said what she said and meant it. She says Jade Cargill was not there for Bianca like she was, and as she says she will take care of business with Jade tomorrow, Jade shows up. Naomi escapes as Bianca holds her back, and Rhea confronts Jade only for Naomi to shove Jade into Rhea from behind. This starts a brawl that leads to security breaking things up as Iyo stands there only to hit everyone with a top rope moonsault.

Rey Fenix and The Latino World Order (Rey Mysterio and Dragon Lee) beat American Made (Chad Gable, Julius Creed, Brutus Creed) in a six-man tag match.

"The American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes heads to the ring for his face-to-face with John Cena. Before he can utter a word, John Cena shows up for the face-to-face. Cena tells Cody to shut his mouth before Cody speaks and says this will be his 20th WrestleMania and his 12th title match at WrestleMania, and it will be the last time he ever wrestles at WrestleMania. He says nobody has ever went out the way that he is going out, and that Cody cannot prepare for a man who is prepared to die. Cena says this is so unprecedented because it has never been before and that there is always one more match, and says every other wrestler needs these people because they are insecure losers and that they are alone the moment they leave the business and come back a pathetic shell of their former selves. Cena says he is here to take the WWE Championship away from everyone forever, and that he warned everyone, including Cody, having warned him that the championship would get heavier and heavier and that he will lose it because he cares too much for the fans. Cena says the fans do not write history; winners do. Cena then admits that he found it impossible to beat Cody at WrestleMania until Cody refused to sell his soul, saying he sold his soul to the fans a long time ago. Cena says that Cody no longer stands a chance, and that the fans do not matter, for they will always make their own version of the truth that they want to believe. He says Cody will be able to do whatever he wants if he stops believing in the fans, but he is too weak for that. Cena then tells Cody that he will have to choose between believing what is right and winning. He says Cody is good, but he is scared, insecure and naive, and that Cody will either sever ties with all the losers in his life or blow his chance at winning and realize that he is just a kid in a man's world who does not have the balls of the last real champion. Cody mentions Cena saying that he is talent and that he does not burying talent, and while he knows "a graveyard of talent," this is about them. He says that this is a different WWE than what Cena has known, and back then, he worshipped him. He counters Cena's claim that he is underwhelming by claiming that Cena is overrated, overbearing and out of touch and time before making fun of his appearance as well as his "sanctimonious" comments and treating him like an errand boy. He also says it is 2025 and that Cena still cannot wrestle. Cena says that Cody is like the fans because he does not know what he wants just like they do, then says he does not have to wrestle. He pokes Cody in the eye and goes for an Attitude Adjustment, but Cody slips out and counters with a Cross Rhodes.
