Layin' da SmackDown - SmackDown recap for August 6, 2021

Sasha Banks heads to the ring to start tonight's show. Sasha says she came back for the spotlight that she deserves and created, and that she will never let anyone steal her spotlight ever again. After a video package of her actions from last week, Sasha says that she exposed Bianca, who she says made mistake week after week, and says Bianca would be nothing without her. Sasha says that Bianca never thanked her and that she thought about the disrespect she received week after week, and made good on her promise to make Bianca pay when she returned. Suddenly, Bianca shows up. Bianca tells Sasha that she won't be talking about her when she gets in the ring, and says that Sasha was literally begging her to choose her after Royal Rumble so they could make history together, and says Sasha does not want her to shine. As Bianca enters the ring saying she has been shining and representing, Sasha rolls out of the ring and stands on the announce table, saying she can what she does when she wants because she is a legend. Bianca, admitting that Sasha is indeed one of the greatest to lace up a pair of boots, tells Sasha that if she wants a match for the SmackDown Women's Championship, it is on. Suddenly, Zelina Vega shows up. After Bianca threatens to beat her up if she gets in the ring, Zelina tells Bianca that she accepted her challenge and that she is the moment, then Sasha mocks Bianca. Bianca tells Sasha that Zelina wasn't talking to her because she is not the champ. After telling Sasha she will see her at SummerSlam, Bianca then tells Zelina that she did not forget Zelina's challenge and that she will see her later tonight.

Backstage, Rey Mysterio tells Dominik Mysterio that he knows that he is hungry regarding his match with Jey Uso, but they have to be strategic and cannot risk a loss before their tag team title rematch at SummerSlam. Dominik tells Rey that he will not let him down, and that he is confident he can beat Jey on his own.

Jey Uso beats Dominik Mysterio after Rey Mysterio inadvertently distracts Dominik as he keeps Jimmy Uso from interfering in the match.

Backstage, Megan Morant interviews Edge, who says that Seth Rollins can meet him in the ring when he enters the arena and see what kind of "selfish, rotten bastard" he can be.

King Nakamura beats Apollo Crews by disqualification in an Intercontinental Championship Contender's Match after Commander Azeez pulls Nakamura out of a pinfall attempt. After the match, Nakamura successfully fights Apollo and Azeez off.

Backstage, Kayla Braxton gets an interview with an irritated Paul Heyman, who says that if he were to attack Tom Brady from behind as he tried to sign a contract, he would not get Brady's $75 million, then says WWE is enabling John Cena. He says that Cena has slid into a championship match that he does not deserve, and that Roman Reigns has nothing to say to anyone about what happened at last week's contract signing. Paul Heyman then turns around and sees a laughing Big E.

Tegan Nox beats Tamina Snuka with a stack-up pin after Shotzi Blackheart shoots a missile from her tank.

Backstage, Zelina Vega meets with Sonya Deville and Adam Pearce, demanding her match with Bianca Belair. Adam and Sonya tell Zelina that if she wins tonight, she can get her SmackDown Women's Championship match.

Edge heads to the ring. Edge says he does not blame Seth Rollins for not being here tonight, because what he would do to him would put him in jail. He says he willing to let the past stay the past until Seth cost him the Universal title, but if he were Seth, he would have done the same thing. He says that by looking at Seth, he looks into a mirror of his past, then says this will not end well for either of them. Suddenly, Rollins appears on the TitanTron via satellite. Rollins says they may be a bit alike, but their similarites end there and that Edge is only half the man that he is and that Edge should always have a Plan B. Edge then says his Plan B is a match with Rollins at SummerSlam. Rollins says that he has Edge wrapped around his finger and that he is the one that calls the shots around here, then asks Edge what he thinks he is getting himself into before asking what will happen when he stomps his neck. He then says that Edge's career will be done and that he will not be able to come back, then brings up his family as he says he does not know what kind of future he will have as a family man, which angers Edge. Edge says that Rollins is infatuated with him, having been eliminated by him in the 2020 and 2021 men's Royal Rumble matches and was unable to finish the job and take him out for good in 2014, and says that Rollins is trying to walk in his shoes but cannot fill them. After Edge calls Rollins "Edge Lite," Rollins says he is better than Edge in every way and that Edge knows it. Rollins then tells Edge he is on for SummerSlam.

Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviews Finn Balor, who says that last week, he was so close to signing a contract for the Universal Championship match until Baron Corbin stuck his nose where it did not belong. He says that if Corbin had not sunk so low, he should have minded his own business and stayed out of his, and if he wants to get back on his feet, he should learn some honor and integrity, which he will teach Corbin the hard way. Finn says that after he is done with Corbin, he has a bone to pick with John Cena.

The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford) beat Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode.

Bianca Belair beats Zelina Vega in a SmackDown Women's Championship Contender's Match.

Backstage, Paul Heyman tells Roman Reigns that Finn Balor vs. Baron Corbin is up next. Roman tells Heyman he is interested.

When Baron Corbin shows up for the next match, he has no entrance music. When the bell rings, Baron Corbin tries to beg Finn Balor off and tries to apologize for what he did last week, but Balor refuses to accept the apology and hits him.

Finn Balor beats Baron Corbin. After the match, Finn Balor says that three years ago, he would have smiled and accepted what happened last week, then says that "this Finn isn't smilin'" and wants Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship. He then says that if he has to go through John Cena, then so be it. As Finn Balor says to name the time and place, Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman show up. Roman says Heyman has already explained his position on what happened next week, then says that he also understands why he is running his mouth against John Cena, saying he tried to give Finn an opportunity. He tells Finn to keep his name out of his mouth, then throws the microphone at him. Finn pushes Roman out of the ring, and this makes Roman. Roman walks up to the ring apron, then Finn is attacked from behind by The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso). Roman heads to the back as The Usos attack Finn Balor, but when Jimmy goes for a splash, Finn avoids it by putting Jey in Jimmy's away and fends The Usos off. Heyman makes Roman aware of this, and the two of them watch Finn Balor at work. Roman takes off his jacket and gets in the ring, and Roman and Finn brawl. Finn hits the Sling Blade, but as he goes for the corner drop kick, The Usos get back in the ring and attack Finn again. Finn falls victim to a Superman Punch followed by an Uso Splash, then Roman goes for a guillotine choke and makes Finn tap out.
