Generation NXT - NXT recap for August 10, 2021

It is announced that Ember Moon is not medically cleared to compete tonight, and that Sarray will now face Dakota Kai tonight.

Before the next match, Dakota Kai says she hopes Raquel Gonzalez is watching, as she is about to defeat the undefeated Sarray and prove she is nobody's sidekick.

Dakota Kai beats Sarray, handing Sarry her first NXT loss. During the match, Raquel Gonzalez is seeing making her way into the building. After the match, Dakota Kai goes for another running kick to the corner, but Raquel Gonzalez shows up, chases Dakota Kai out of the ring and tells her that she will never beat her or win the NXT Women's Championship. She says that if Dakota Kai wanted a title shot, all she had to do was ask. Raquel then accepts Dakota's challenge for NXT TakeOver 36, then tells Dakota she will tear her apart.

Indi Hartwell gets ready for her first date with Dexter Lumis despite Dexter losing the "Love Her or Leave Her" match while Johnny Gargano and Candice LeRae size up the situation. Suddenly, Dexter Lumis rings the doorbell. Gargano greets Dexter, who is carrying a bouquet of roses, into the house. As Candice is worried about Indi, Dexter and Gargano have a staring contest as Gargano gets the silent treatment. Gargano demands that Dexter take Indi to a nice restaurant, come back by 10 PM, and "no funny business." After Indi and Dexter leave, Candice and Gargano decide to follow them, as Gargano is able to track them with his phone.

We get a closer look at Ilja Dragunov, courtesy of Sonic Drive-In.

We hear from Hit Row (Isaiah "Swerve" Scott, Ashante "Thee" Adonis, Top Dolla, B-Fab). They say that they tired to let things go with Legado del Fantasma until they attacked from behind and took Swerve's grill, disrespecting them and their culture. Swerve then throws a yellow luchador mask into a burning metal drum.

Ilja Dragunov heads to the ring. Dragunov says he is not a man of big words, for where he comes from, means never meant anything while pain, struggle and the blind belief in fighting spirit has. He says he has put his power not into his words, but into his fists, and with his fists and everything else he is, he will make the unthinkable and beat Walter for the NXT UK Championship at NXT TakeOver 36 as the fans witness chaos and rage while history is made and an unbreakable kingdom falls. Suddenly, Pete Dunne shows up and tells Dragunov he owes him a big thank you, as without him travelling the glove and carrying NXT UK and all of Europe on his back, Dragunov would not even be able to compete against Walter or even stand in front of "the baddest man in NXT." He then says that if he stayed in the UK, he would have put Dragunov in his place a long time ago. Draguno says Pete Dunne says big words, then says he is here to go straight to the top, make the impossible possible and beat Walter, which he says Dunne cannot change. He also says this is something Dunne never did, then tells Dunne to prove his words are as strong as his will to fight and face him tonight. Dunne says Dragunov is as mad as he looks, and promises that Dragunov will not even make it to TakeOver.

Backstage, McKenzie Mitchell interviews LA Knight and Cameron Grimes. Knight says Cameron left them hanging, not the other way around, and says that Ted DiBiase is filling his head with ideas, saying that Cameron is not special and is just a butler.

LA Knight beats Cameron Grimes. After the match, LA Knight makes Cameron Grimes shine his boot when "The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase shows up. DiBiase says this has gone too far, and while he knows Cameron is a man of his word, he has a lot more for him, saying he could be doing a lot of other things. Knight says Cameron is born to be a butler, but Cameron says this is the last thing Cameron should be doing. DiBiase says this has gone too far, and while he knows Cameron is a man of his word, he has a lot more for him, saying he could be doing a lot of other things. Knight says Cameron is born to be a butler, but Cameron says this is the last thing Cameron should be doing. DiBiase says he can be a champion, especially if DiBiase puts the Million Dollar Championship on the line. DiBiase refuses, saying he has beaten Cameron twice, and says DiBiase can fill Cameron with all the false hope he wants. DiBiase then puts the title on the line, and says that this time, if Cameron Grimes loses, DiBiase will be his butler, not Grimes. DiBiase says he is a gambling man with a lot of money, and tells Knight he is on.

We see a vignette for Gigi Dolin, who says that this is not a nine-to-five gig and that it is all about surviving and running through everyone in the women's division and that she is not doing it alone as she cuts roses from their stems.

Gigi Dolin - accompanied by Jacy Jayne - beats Amari Miller. During the match, it is announced that Ilja Dragunov and Pete Dunne will face off in tonight's main event.

Indi Hartwell and Dexter Lumis head to a restaurant. Suddenly, Indi Hartwell finds out that Candice LeRae is spying on them. Candice quickly retreats, then Indi and Dexter resume their date.

General Manager William Regal is in the ring with a security detail. He asks Kyle O'Reilly and Adam Cole to come to the ring, which they do. Adam Cole arrives first, followed by Kyle O'Reilly. Regal tells both men that their match will be contested in a two-out-of-three falls, and that both men can pick the first two rounds' stipulations, with Regal picking the third should it go that far. O'Reilly says his loss between them at Great American Bash has not sat well with him, and declares the first fall to be declared by pinfall or submission, then states that Adam Cole is a narcissist. Cole says he only picked that because he is delusional, and says he is better than O'Reilly in every possible way. He then criticizes his actions from the last few weeks, then states that they both want the same thing. Cole picks a Street Fight for the second fall. Cole then tells O'Reilly not to worry about a third fall because their match will not go that fall when he wins two falls straight. O'Reilly says that Cole got rammed into the ring steps because he taught him and because he asked for it. O'Reilly says he now has his priorities straight and that he will do anything to put Cole down, as he does not care anymore. Cole asks O'Reilly how much more of a moron he can be, saying O'Reilly has followed him and rode on his coattails for thirteen years, and that he will never be him. Cole says that he is the greatest NXT Superstar of all time and that nobody can touch him, then calls O'Reilly "soft" and "pathetic" and that he means nothing to him as he dares O'Reilly to hit him. Security quickly moves in to separate both men as they brawl, and Regal declares that the third and deciding fall will be in a steel cage.

We hear from Timothy Thatcher and Tommaso Ciampa. Ciampa says that Oney Lorcan and Pete Dunne needed help to beat them in the form of Ridge Holland, and that the industry chooses people like Ridge Holland. Ciampa says that Ridge Holland is not a Thatcher or a Ciampa, and that they have honed their craft and continue to choose this industry while representing everything that is just and pure in it. Timothy then stops Ciampa to state that he will fight Holland in the ring.

We hear from Imperium (Fabian Aichner and Marcel Barthel). Barthel says they are here to protect the purity of their sport by any means necessary. MSK (Nash Carter and Wes Lee) then interrupt Imperium's vignette to make fun of interrupting vignettes, and state that they have brought new life into the tag team division. They then tell Imperium that if they want a shot at the NXT tag team titles, all they have to do is let them know.

Odyssey Jones beats Trey Baxter to advance to the finals of the NXT Breakout Tournament. After the match, Odyssey Jones celebrates his win in a post-match interview.

Boa says that disobedience will not be tolerated as it is announced that he is in action next.

Backstage, McKenzie Mitchell gets an interview with General Manager William Regal after KUSHIDA and Malcolm Bivens walk out of Regal's office. Imperium (Fabian Aichner and Marcel Barthel) vs. MSK (Nash Carter and Wes Lee) for the NXT Tag Team Championships as well as Roderick Strong vs. KUSHIDA for the Cruiserweight title are official next week.

Mei Ying is seen accompanying Boa before the next match.

Boa beats Drake Maverick after Mei Ying spits smoke into Drake Maverick's face.

Indi Hartwell and Dexter Lumis have dessert, which is a white cake. The waiter is Johnny Gargano, and when he is found out, Indi and Gargano fight over the cake, when ends up in Dexter's face. After Gargano runs away, Indi makes the best of the situation and kisses Dexter.

We see a video package for Karrion Kross vs. Samoa Joe at NXT TakeOver 36.

Next week: a face-to-face between Karrion Kross and Samoa Joe!

Pete Dunne beats Ilja Dragunov after Walter shows up, distracting Dragunov and allowing Dunne to hit Bitter End for the win. After the match, Walter attacks Dragunov, but Dragunov is quickly able to hit Torpedo Moscow.

Here are the top ten moments from tonight's show!
