Layin' da SmackDown - SmackDown recap for July 9, 2021

Backstage, Paul Heyman stops Jimmy Uso, telling him that Roman Reigns his heading to the ring to handle something and that he will get his full attention tonight.

Backstage, Paul Heyman meets with Roman Reigns, who says "It's time." The two of them then head to the ring. Roman says he knows a lot of people at home did not like the fact that he was not present last week, and says that there was a lot about last week he did not like, either. Roman says he really does not like a liar like Edge saying that he is in his head, and says that while there might have been fear and doubt for a brief instant, he pushed through, pulled himself up and won. He says the only reason Edge got to him was because he was unfocused and had so much going on with his family that he wasn't even thinking about him. He then decides to handle some business, and Jimmy Uso shows up. Jimmy says he faced Edge for the two of them and asks Roman where he was last week, accusing him of taking a vacation, but Roman says he does not make those decisions and that he was busy doing Jimmy's job because he does not take vacations. Suddenly, for the first time in weeks, Jey Uso shows up and states that Roman's right hand man is back before telling Jimmy that he always has his back even through hard times, and tells him to get his head up and get back to work at becoming tag champs. Roman says that this is all he had ever wanted, and that as long as they do what they need to together and do it his way, the three of them can be untouchable. All three men then hug.

Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviews Baron Corbin. He says he needs to win tonight, as his life is a mess and he has lost just about everything and is about to lose his house. He says he has won the Money In The Bank Ladder Match and that he must do it again to turn his life around.

Big E guests on commentary for the next match. After it is revealed that Big E has a couch and a mini-fridge that Pat McAfee is allowed to join, it is revealed that King Nakamura and Rick Boogs has Baron Corbin's repossessed Mercedes-Benz.

King Nakamura beats Baron Corbin to qualify for the men's Money In The Bank Ladder Match.

Backstage, Jey Uso asks Jimmy Uso if he is ready to take care of business tonight before Roman Reigns does.

Natalya and Tamina head into the ring. Natalya mentions that they have a non-title match against two women who have not been seen on SmackDown who want to take them on. Tamina tells them to get it over with and show up. The mystery opponents are Tegan Nox and Shotzi Blackheart from NXT.

Shotzi Blackheart and Tegan Nox beat Natalya and Tamina.

Backstage, Megan Morant interviews Edge. Edge says he is interested if Roman Reigns has the guts to face him alone or if he shows up with The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso) later tonight.

Sonya Deville heads to the ring. She announces that Bayley has sustained an injury yesterday following a training session and will be out for nine months, and will no longer be competing for the WWE SmackDown Women's Championship at Money In The Bank. We then see a video message from Bayley, who says that the fans do not care if she is hurt or that she trained for them, and blames the fans for her injury before stating that whoever takes her place will not be as good as her. After Sonya Deville wishes Bayley a speedy recovery, she announces that Bianca Belair will no longer be defending the SmackDown Women's Championship at Money In The Bank; instead, she will defend it next week in front of the first live audience since 2020. She then announces that Bianca Belair will defend the title that night against Carmella, who heads to the ring. As Carmella insists she is the most beautiful woman in WWE, Liv Morgan shows up, annoyed that Sonya Deville is appointing something else to Carmella and accusing her of blatant favoritism. Sonya stops her and tells her she is replacing Carmella in the women's Money In The Bank Ladder Match because she deserves it, then tells her to get out of her ring before she changes her mind. Liv tells Carmella that she hopes she wins the title so she can cash in on her, then Bianca Belair shows up. Liv Morgan looks at her on the way out, then Bianca says she will accept Carmella as a challenger and that she respects Bayley for her competitive skills, saying she will finish things up when she comes back. She then tells Carmella she will see her next week.

Backstage, Paul Heyman tells Roman Reigns that they have a problem and that Edge is planning to call Roman out in the ring tonight and that Edge questions his manhood.

Toni Storm is coming soon to SmackDown!

Kevin Owens guests on commentary for the next match.

Seth Rollins beats Cesaro to qualify for the men's Money In The Bank Ladder Match.

Backstage, The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso) head to Edge's dressing room. Jimmy knocks, but Jey says they should wait for him to come out first. After the commercial break, Jimmy and Jey Uso barge into Edge's locker room but find it empty.

Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviews Seth Rollins, who says that Cesaro did not stand a chance against him despite putting up a hell of a fight, and says Cesaro is not on his level while he is the present and future. Seth Rollins remembers that he cashed in on Roman Reigns when he won the Money In The Bank Ladder Match, and as he says he should be facing Roman Reigns right now, Edge shows up. Edge says that Rollins has not changed since 2014, then says that he will do something that Rollins would never do and call Roman out.

We hear from Chad Gable and Otis. Otis says there is something about a demolition video, especially when his prized pupil Otis is involved. He says that regardless of who the opponent is, anyone who steps to them, the results will be the same. Otis says that he will destroy anyone.

Next week: Big E vs. Kevin Owens vs. Seth Rollins vs. King Nakamura in a Fatal 4-Way Match!

Edge heads to the ring. He congratulates Roman Reigns and The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso) on reuniting, then says it does not matter how many minions Roman has, as he has "exposed the cracks in the table" and that he will take the Universal Championship, and that anyone who gets in his way will get choked out. He says that he feeds off fear like what Roman and Jimmy Uso had when he gave them the "Glasgow Grin," then "throws down [Roman's] punk card" and calls Roman out. Backstage, Roman tells The Usos to stay here so he can handle this on his own, then leaves with Paul Heyman and heads to the ring. Before approaching the ring, Roman tells Paul to stay behind with the Universal Championship. Roman heads down the ramp alone and without the Universal Championship. Backstage, Jey says something does not feel right, and he and Jimmy leave the dressing room. The Usos then head to the ring, and Roman tells them that he will handle this one-on-one. Roman takes off his jacket and slowly makes his way into the ring. Roman and Edge brawl, then Rey and Dominik Mysterio show up out of nowhere and attack The Usos from behind with chairs as Edge takes the fight to Roman. Edge plants Roman with a jumping DDT while The Usos lay out the Mysterios, then The Usos double team Edge only for Rey and Dominik to get back into the brawl and hit Jimmy with a double 619 while Jey gets a Spear. As all this happens, Roman retreats to the stage as Edge grabs a chair of his own and stomps the bottom out of it. As Rey and Dominik hold Jey down, Edge takes the piece of the chair and chokes Jey with it to the point that Jey passes out. Edge tells Roman he has one week, then chokes Jey Uso out again before doing the same to Jimmy. Edge then cokes Jey out a third time as the show fades to black.
