Layin' da SmackDown - SmackDown Live recap for April 16, 2019

Kevin Owens shows up to start tonight's show with another edition of The Kevin Owens Show. After welcoming the fans to the show and addressing the fans in French, he mentions Vince McMahon's reveal of the biggest acquisition in SmackDown Live's history before saying he is the biggest Superstar on the brand. He then mentions that his guest for tonight deserves his respect, then introduces him: Kofi Kingston. Kofi shows up with Xavier Woods (with Big E not here due to a torn meniscus), Owens welcomes Kofi to The Kevin Owens Show. Owens congratulates Kofi on his WWE Championship victory, and the crowd gives Kofi a standing ovation. Kofi states that WrestleMania was something special, and that he shared the moment with his friends, family and fans and became a champion. Kevin addresses Big E's conspicuous absence, and Xavier Woods confirms that Big E was injured in last week's match before saying that Raw took 80% of the UpUpDownDown roster and that he will lose his mind if he doesn't see Tyler Breeze by the end of the night. Owens mentions that Kofi and Woods have a match with Shinsuke Nakamura and Rusev tonight, and says that Kofi and Woods - who are used to being part of a trio - need back-up in the form of "Big O." Kofi says it is a big commitment, and Woods says there is a lot to do, including "movement of the groinal region", all of which Kevin Owens is open to. Kofi asks the fans if they want to see Owens as an honorary New Day member. The fans say yes. Owens is made an honorary member without question, and Owens dons the New Day crop top and the rainbow-colored unicorn horn before celebrating with Kofi and Woods. Backstage, Nakamura and Rusev have been watching, and Cesaro approaches them asking to be their third man. Nakamura and Rusev accept.

Finn Balor beats Ali in his SmackDown Live debut.

Backstage, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods put Kevin Owens through initiation: eating a giant stack of pancakes in less than five minutes and thirty-seven seconds.

Backstage, Kevin Owens barely beats Big E's time of eating a large plate of pancakes in five minutes and thirty-seven seconds.

Charlotte Flair beats Carmella with the Figure Eight after weakening Carmella's left knee. After the match, Lars Sullivan shows up and confronts R-Truth. R-Truth fights back, but Lars simply shrugs Truth's efforts off and hits him with the Freak Accident. Lars then approaches Carmella, but referee Charles Robinson helps Carmella out of the ring before Lars plants Truth with a sit-out powerbomb.

Becky Lynch shows up. Becky re-addresses her points from last night, and says she is ready to tackle new challenges and batter anyone put in front of her as both women's titles are her passport to a fight. Suddenly, Ember Moon shows up and tells Becky she should get used to seeing her for she is now on SmackDown Live. Becky advises Ember Moon not to interrupt her again, but Ember Moon says she is here to make a name for herself. She says there is no better way than to step up to Becky, then Bayley shows up. Bayley announces she has joined SmackDown Live as well, and admits a lot has changed since she and Becky have last seen each other. As special as the women's titles are to her, she has her eyes on the two belts Becky has. Suddenly, The IIconics (Billie Kay and Peyton Royce) show up and mock Bayley, then gloat about having the women's tag team titles before Paige shows up. Paige says that as much fun as The IIconics are having, the fans will have more fun with the team she is representing on SmackDown Live. Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville show up and say that SmackDown Live has waited long enough for the comeback of Absolution, but Paige says she has two other women in mind. The first one is Asuka, but the second one is Kairi Sane, straight out of NXT. Paige then sends Asuka and Kairi Sane into the ring, and Becky Lynch cheekily watches as everyone else brawls with each other.

Bayley, Ember Moon, Asuka and Kairi Sane beat Mandy Rose, Sonya Deville and The IIconics (Billie Kay and Peyton Royce).

It is revealed that Lars Sullivan is officially on SmackDown Live.

We hear from The Hardy Boyz. Matt says he and Jeff made people remember why they are the greatest tag team in all of space and time.

Backstage, Kevin Owens fills Big E's boots on the microphone.

We hear from Buddy Murphy, who talks about his time in 205 Live and says that while everyone might not know him now, they eventually will, for he is coming to SmackDown Live.

The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods) and Kevin Owens beat Shinsuke Nakamura, Rusev and Cesaro.

WWE Chairman Vince McMahon shows up. He says that he seldom puts his seal of approval on a WWE Superstar, and says that his great acquisition for SmackDown Live is tough, talented and exudes charisma. That man is Elias, who shows up and thanks Vince for recognizing his talent and having his finger on the pulse of what his audience wants, then proceeds to play guitar despite the fact that he is less than thrilled to be Montreal, Quebec, Canada. All of a sudden, Roman Reigns shows up and fights Elias only to be confronted by Vince. Vince gets hit with a Superman Punch, then Roman says SmackDown Live is his yard now. Afterwards, Elias gets hit with a Spear to end the show.

Here are the top ten moments from tonight's show!
