Layin' da SmackDown - SmackDown Live recap for July 17, 2018

Jeff Hardy shows up to start tonight's show. Hardy says he may look like, make an entrance like, and wear facepaint like Jeff Hardy, but he feels unlike himself, incomplete and like his heart is broken because he is no longer United States Champion. He says that "The Artist" Shinsuke Nakamura lacks ethics and that he hit the low blow because it was the only way he could beat him. Sunday night, he tried to go after him but was not thinking clearly, but he is thinking more clearly tonight. He plans to make Nakamura feels as much pain as possible and make him fade away and classify himself as obsolete as he takes the United States title back. He then tells everyone to enjoy the show. Backstage, Renee Young interviews Nakamura, who says Jeff Hardy is a sad clown who wears facepaint to hide the tears he cries. He now says the United States title is his and that this is a reason to smile. Tonight, he will give everyone a reason to smile by making a clown cry again. He says "God Bless America," then leaves.

"The Phenomenal" AJ Styles beats Andrade "Cien" Almas with the Calf Crusher. After the match, Almas stands up and shows his dissatisfaction with his loss.

Backstage, Aiden English apologizes to Lana, wishing he did not cost Rusev the WWE Championship. He asks Lana to talk to Rusev, but Lana says that Rusev needs his space before asking if Aiden English is in Rusev's best interests. Aiden tells Lana that he has always had Rusev's back, and that he is asking for a second chance. Lana says she will take that into consideration.

Becky Lynch beats Mandy Rose with the Dis-Arm-Her. After the match, Becky Lynch says winning feels great, and she has been waiting -sometimes patiently, sometimes not - but has never stopped working for the fans to rack up victories. However, she is just getting started. She tells Carmella that straight fire is coming for her, as it is about time that she became WWE SmackDown Women's Champion again.

Backstage, General Manager Paige meets with Carmella, who once again brags about beating Charlotte Flair and Asuka twice and demands another "'Mellabration." Paige says she will throw the 'Mellabration or 'Mellabrations on the condition that she beats Becky Lynch next week. If Becky wins, however, Carmella will have to defend the SmackDown Women's Championship at SummerSlam.

Backstage, R-Truth meets with "The Perfect Ten" Tye Dillinger. Dillinger becomes annoyed with R-Truth talking to him and says Samoa Joe will be his before leaving. It is then revealed that R-Truth is talking on his cellphone with a Bluetooth earpiece.

Samoa Joe beats "The Perfect Ten" Tye Dillinger with the Coaquina Clutch.

It's time for Miz TV! This week is the eulogy for Team Hell No (Kane and Daniel Bryan), for which The Miz is dressed in all black as pallbearers drag a coffin with Kane's mask on a dummy's head on top of it. Miz thanks everyone in the crowd for being here tonight, and says he is as sad as the fans are before plugging his show and his participation in a celebrity all-star softball game prior to paying his respects to Team Hell No. Miz quotes N*SYNC, saying it is time to say "Bye Bye Bye" to Team Hell No before talking about Team Hell No's previous accomplishments as well as their beginnings as an unlikely tag team. He then says that the reunion ended as quickly as it began at the hands of The Bludgeon Brothers, and now that the team is six feet under, he asks everyone to stand up and join him in honoring them with a moment of silence. To nobody's surprise, Miz says that when his hand goes up, everyone's mouths go shut. He then has a moment of silence for Team Hell No while everyone boos him. After a minute, everyone starts a "Yes!" chant. Miz admits the "Yes!" chants are a little better. He then tells the fans "I told you so," and that he knew that Team Hell No would break up as Kane was nothing more than "a broken down demon" and Daniel Bryan was a glory hound and never "a world-beating wrestler" like he claimed he was. He says that Daniel Bryan knew the fans saw through his lies and that he threw one more Hail Mary pass to bring himself to relevance and failed, and that nobody is sadder than Daniel Bryan because he knows that his return from injury has been a bust. Miz says that Daniel Bryan does not have the courage to say that he is destroying his legacy by the week, and that Team Hell No is dead. Suddenly, Daniel Bryan shows up. The pallbearers, who were blocking the entrance to the ring, get ready to fight, but Daniel Bryan comes out from the crowd and attacks Miz from behind. The pallbearers go after him, but Daniel Bryan makes quick work of them. The Miz runs away, and Daniel Bryan topples everything in the ring down before hitting one of the pallbearers with a running knee.

In the locker room, The New Day (Kofi Kingston, Big E, Xavier Woods) make fun of SAnitY (Eric Young, Alexander Wolfe, Killian Dain) before making their way to the ring for the next match.

Eric Young beats Kofi Kingston with the assist from Killian Dain from the outside.

Next week: General Manager Paige announces who "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles will defend the WWE Championship against at SummerSlam!

Jeff Hardy beats "The Artist" Shinsuke Nakamura by disqualification after Randy Orton shows up from out of the crowd to drag Jeff Hardy out of the ring. "The Artist" Shinsuke Nakamura retains the WWE United States Championship. After the match, Randy Orton continues to attack Jeff Hardy, then pulls a stud out of one of his ears and yanks on the hole in the ear. He then whispers to Jeff Hardy that if he wants to know why he is doing this, then he will have to wait to find out. Officials and referees try to stop Orton as Orton beats up Jeff Hardy on the commentary table before hitting the draping DDT off of it.

Here are the top 10 moments from tonight's show!
