Layin' da SmackDown - SmackDown Live recap for May 9, 2017

Randy Orton shows up to start tonight show. At Payback, he lost not because of Bray Wyatt or a refrigerator, but because of Jinder Mahal. After he says he plans to get payback against Jinder Mahal, Mahal shows up with the Singh Brothers and shows off the promo pictures of himself with the WWE Championship. At Backlash, he will take the WWE Championship and take it back to his people, and that he will no longer be disrespected for a new age - the age of the Maharaja - will begin. He then speaks to the fans in Punjabi, but before he can even do that, Kevin Owens shows up. Owens says nobody cares about the House of Horrors, India or even England, as the only thing people should care about is himself. Last week, he did not just regain the United States title, he ended Chris Jericho's career. He then says he will end the career of AJ Styles at Backlash, and become not only United States Champion and the new face of America, but the face of WWE, as the WWE Championship is next on his list. He repeats that last statement in French, then Styles shows up. Styles says this is the house that AJ Styles built, and tells Kevin Owens that while he may be the face of America - which he should enjoy while he still can - he will never be the face of SmackDown Live. Baron Corbin shows up, but he is attacked from behind by Sami Zayn, starting a brawl with everyone in the ring. Owens, Jinder and Corbin eventually retreat.

It is announced that AJ Styles, Randy Orton and Sami Zayn will take on Kevin Owens, Jinder Mahal and Baron Corbin in six-man tag team action later tonight.

Carmella, James Ellsworth and Tamina are in the ring. James Ellsworth says nobody deserves to see the beauty of Tamina and Carmella before telling the crowd to get down to one knee as they are not on their leand close their mouths as nobody wants to see their teeth. Carmella then introduces Natalya. Naomi shows up and introduces Becky Lynch. Charlotte then shows up and says she doesn't need someone to introduce her because she needs no introduction.

Natalya beats Becky Lynch after the distraction from Tamina getting on the apron in an interference. Naomi tries to stop her, and Charlotte stops Naomi from going after Tamina, distracting Becky.

Tonight on 205 Live: Akira Tozawa vs. The Brian Kendrick in a match to see who will teach the final lesson.

We see another vignette for Lana.

Charlotte argues with Naomi backstage, blaming Naomi for Becky Lynch's loss. Becky Lynch has to step in and play peacemaker, saying that as long as they are at each others' throats, Natalya, Carmella and Tamina will have an advantage. Becky proposes they bond, and do so by facing The Welcoming Committee (Natalya, Carmella, Tamina) in a six-woman tag match. Naomi and Charlotte are up for the challenge.

Breezango (Tyler Breeze and Fandango) are in the arena, where they find paint on the ground which they believe belong to The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso). Suddenly, they hear growling behind a door, and find The Ascension (Konnor and Viktor), who are wearing the paint.

Erick Rowan beats Luke Harper after the referee stops him from using his mask as a weapon, allowing Rowan to poke Harper in the eyes as the ref puts the mask away.

Dolph Ziggler shows up, and tells the fans that they are all hypocrites as for eight long years, he has come out to the ring to do what he does and has won titles and made movies, but nobody appreciates him. He also calls the fan hypocrites for cheering for someone who calls himself "The Artist" and has never had a match on SmackDown Live, and says he suffers for his art as he has had to do everything himself and never needed the fans, who he says do not care. He says the fans will care now before he calls out "The King of Strong Style" Shinsuke Nakamura, who shows up. Ziggler says it's been almost a month, and if he is going to stand toe-to-toe in the ring with him, it's time for him to either put up or shut up. Nakamura takes the microphone and tells him to shut up, and that if he wants to see what he can do, he will show him now. Ziggler then decides now is not the time and that they will do it when he says so, and that he will expose him for the fraud that he is at Backlash. Ziggler then tosses his jacket at him and goes for a cheap shot, but Nakamura fights back. Ziggler teases getting back in the ring, but then decides against it.

Sami Zayn talks with Randy Orton and AJ Styles, formulating a strategy for their match. Neither man seems interested, and as Sami Zayn closes his eyes to visualize their victory, they walk away.

We see another vignette for The New Day (Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods, Big E).

Breezango (Tyler Breeze and Fandango) beat The Ascension (Konnor and Viktor). After the match, The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso) show up and tell Breezango they will beat them down and retain the SmackDown tag titles in twelve days at Backlash.

The Brian Kendrick says Akira Tozawa has taken what he has taught him to heart. Tonight, on 205 Live, they see who teaches the final lesson.

Mojo Rawley gives a few kids a tour of the backstage area, and tells them about Andre The Giant before showing them the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal Trophy.

We see a Twitter video from Rusev, who says his demands for a title shot on SmackDown Live at Money In The Bank have been ignored. He demands an answer and a title shot when he shows up next week.

Jinder Mahal, Kevin Owens and Baron Corbin beat Randy Orton, AJ Styles and Sami Zayn.

Here are the top 10 moments from tonight's show!
