Raw Deal - Raw recap for May 8, 2017

The show starts with Dean Ambrose answering his phone backstage. It is General Manager Kurt Angle, who gives him some good news. Ambrose has an idea for the next pay-per-view, but Angle hangs up on him. Ambrose then heads to the ring with a special announcement to make. He announces that he has gotten off the phone with Kurt Angle, and while Angle will not be here tonight, but he has made Ambrose the Acting General Manager. As Ambrose says that it's all about action on his show, The Miz and Maryse show up. The Miz says tonight's show will be chaotic if Ambrose is in charge, but Ambrose says he has a very detailed plan for tonight's show, but Miz says he has received a call from Commissioner Stephanie McMahon, who says she has heard about Angle's plan and says that if Ambrose ran the show, he would ruin it. Therefore, she has assigned Miz to be co-General Manager for the night. Dean tells Miz to enjoy working together with him, because at Extreme Rules, he is retaining the Intercontinental title. Miz reminds Ambrose that he beat Seth Rollins and Finn Balor to become #1 contender, then Ambrose extends his hand for a handshake. Suddenly, Braun Strowman shows up with his left arm in a sling, saying he doesn't care who is in charge as long as he gets what he wants, for as long as Roman Reigns can walk, he is not finished with him, and tells Miz and Ambrose to call Angle and Stephanie to tell him that he will end Roman Reigns, and when he does, he will go after Brock Lesnar. Kalisto shows up, saying he's not done with Strowman and that nobody treats him like garbage. He then demands a match with Strowman, and Strowman says he'll go at it with him again when his arm healed before saying he can beat him with one arm. Dean decides to see if Strowman can do just that, and puts Strowman and Kalisto in a match where Strowman only has use of one arm. Miz then tells Ambrose that he just ended Kalisto's career, and Ambrose responds with what he wanted to tell him prior to Miz announcing he was co-General Manager: Miz is in the first match of the night and it is against Finn Balor...and it's next.



The Miz beats Finn Balor when he pushes Balor into the referee's back as Maryse gets on the apron, distracting the ref, and using his co-General Manager powers to get Finn disqualified for putting his hands on a WWE official....almost. The ref calls for the bell, and Miz is declaring himself the winner when Dean Ambrose shows up and uses his co-General Manager powers to restart the match and eject Maryse from ringside. As Miz protests, Maryse leaves and Finn goes after the Miz, hitting Sling Blade and the Coup De Grace for the win. Finn Balor beats The Miz.



Alexa Bliss is met by Nia Jax, who wants to make sure that she was not lying when she said she was great. Alexa tells her she was telling the truth, and Nia Jax asks for a shot at the Raw Women's title when she is done with Bayley. Alexa tells her that General Manager Kurt Angle makes the matches and not her, but she will get in touch with him and work something out. Nia tells her that until she does, she just earned herself a new best friend.



Alexa Bliss is accompanied by Nia Jax before the next match, but her opponent Mickie James is accompanied by Bayley.

Alexa Bliss beats Mickie James as Bayley hits Nia Jax with a cross body at ringside. After the match, Bayley chases Alexa to the back, and Nia Jax squashes Mickie in the ring.



Dean Ambrose is backstage when The Miz shows up, wanting to pencil in a Miz TV with one of the members of One Direction. Dean says he has the whole show booked, tells him to go home and that the Miz TV segment is cancelled. Miz puts Dean in a match against Bray Wyatt with his co-General Manager powers when Dean says he will take on anybody.



Charly Caruso interviews Samoa Joe. He says that he is not through with Seth Rollins, and that he will break his entire body. He is attacked from behind by Rollins, and referees and officials for the pull-apart.



Before the next match, Braun Strowman says he is not accepting the next match because Roman Reigns is "a pathetic coward" who will not face him like a man. He then turns around and boots Kalisto in the face. It is not long before reigns shows up, stares down Braun Strowman, gets in the ring, stares Strowman down some more and proceeds to beat him down with a big boot and three Superman Punches. Both men the brawl outside the ring, then Roman smashes a steel hair into Strowman's injured arm before Strowman retreats through the crowd.



It is announced that Seth Rollins and Samoa Joe will square off tonight.

The Golden Truth (Goldust and R-Truth) are backstage. He tells R-Truth that they have done a lot, but not as a team, and Goldust tells him that tonight is the time to show that The Hardys (Jeff and Matt Hardy) aren't the only ones who can turn back the clock.

Sheamus and Cesaro win a Tag Team Turmoil Match to become #1 contenders for the WWE Raw Tag Team Championships. After the match, The Hardys (Jeff and Matt Hardy) show up, and Sheamus and Cesaro leave the ring.



Seth Rollins beats Samoa Joe after Joe rams Seth into a turnbuckle accidentally exposed by Seth Rollins in full view of the referee. After the match, Samoa Joe puts Seth Rollins in the Coaquina Clutch, then tells him it's over when he says it's over.



Next week on Raw: The Miz vs. Dean Ambrose for the WWE Intercontinental Championship!

We see footage of Neville talking to TJP, telling him he needs a marquee victory. If TJP wants a title shot, all he has to do is beat "Gentleman" Jack Gallagher and he will take care of the rest. Neville then guests on commentary for the next match.



TJP beats "Gentleman" Jack Gallagher after grabbing the tights. After the match, TJP hits Gallagher with a chop block and puts him in a knee bar, but Austin Aries shows up from the crowd in a knee brace and fights him off in the ring. Aries and Gallagher stare down Neville and TJP from the ring.



We see the winners of the Johnsonville Seat Upgrade in the front row.

Sasha Banks beats Alicia Fox.



The Miz and Maryse guest on commentary for the next match.

Bray Wyatt beats Dean Ambrose after The Miz hits Ambrose with the WWE Intercontinental Championship behind the referee's back. After the match, The Miz attacks Ambrose, and then says when he beats Ambrose for the Intercontinental Championship, the whole world will declare him to be awesome.
