Aleister Black beats Cezar Bononi.

It is reported that Ember Moon has suffered a grade 1 shoulder sprain and will need 4-5 weeks of recovery time, meaning that she is out of the NXT Women's title match at NXT TakeOver: Chicago.

It is announced that Tyler Bate will defend the WWE United Kingdom Championship against "The Bruiserweight" Pete Dunne at NXT TakeOver: Chicago. We then get a closer look at Pete Dunne.

Drew McIntyre says he is looking at the Hideo Itami/Roderick Strong for a new #1 contender for the NXT Championship closely, and wishes he was in a match. As he talks about making waves and getting a second chance, Wesley Blake shows up and says that if anybody deserves a second chance, it is him. He then tells McIntyre to leave the WWE...again.

We see a vignette for "The Velveteen Dream" Patrick Clark.

#DIY (Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa) are in the ring. They want the NXT tag team titles and their one-on-one tag team title rematch against The Authors of Pain (Akam and Rezar) at NXT TakeOver: Chicago, as the line to the tag team titles starts behind them. Suddenly, Tino Sabbatelli and Riddick Moss show up, and says it's not about #DIY or The Authors of Pain anymore, and that the line starts behind them. Ciampa tells Moss and Sabbatelli that if there is a line, they just crossed it, and knock them out of the ring. This starts an impromptu match that is quickly made official by General Manager William Regal. After the match, Regal shows up and gives #DIY their one-on-one tag team title rematch at NXT TakeOver: Chicago

Kassius Ohno says he's getting back up after losing in his chance to become NXT Champion, and as he says that NXT is full of talent, Andrade "Cien" Almas shows up and mocks him, asking Ohno why he came back only to blow his chance. Ohno challenges him to a match next week, which Almas accepts in as cocky a manner as possible.

We get a closer look at Tyler Bate.

Roderick Strong says the NXT Championship is why he is here. As his entrance music hits, he says now is the time.

Hideo Itami respects Roderick Strong and says he is great, but he is the one going to NXT TakeOver: Chicago while Strong goes to sleep.

Hideo Itami beats Roderick Strong to become the #1 contender for the NXT Championship at NXT TakeOver: Chicago. Both men show respect after the match.
