Layin' da SmackDown - SmackDown Live recap for May 16, 2017

Kevin Owens starts the show with his own version of Chris Jericho's Highlight Reel. Owens says he is taking the segment over because Jericho will never be seen again. He says that Jericho was obsessed with lists, but the only list is he is on is the injured list because of him. He also says he will beat AJ Styles on Sunday. He then introduces tonight's guest in French, but AJ Styles shows up calling out Owens on stealing Jericho's show. Owens says he can do the show - and anything - better than Jericho, including beating him. Styles tells Owens he will beat him for the United States title and bring it back to the United States, and says that they can have their match right now. Jinder Mahal shows up with The Singh Brothers (Sunil and Samir Singh), and says he is the guest and he should be talking. He says that America will bow at his feet when he becomes WWE Champion. Styles tells Jinder he should be more worried about right now, but Jinder tells Styles that to find one's self, they must lose one's self, and that Styles will find himself in nothing but agony in battle, just like Randy Orton will at Backlash. Owens then tells Styles that he will lose to him on Sunday. Styles tells Jinder to step into the ring and become part of "AJ Styles' Highlight Reel."

Jinder Mahal beats AJ Styles after Kevin Owens strikes Styles in the leg from outside with the United States title as The Singh Brothers (Sunil and Samir Singh) distract the referee.

We see another vignette for Lana.

We see another Fashion Files segment. This time around, Breezango (Tyler Breeze and Fandango) make fun of Baron Corbin, Sami Zayn and The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso) while Tyler Breeze is disguised as a janitor.

Renee Young interviews Randy Orton. Orton says people don't like Jinder Mahal because Jinder is an ass.

Breezango (Tyler Breeze and Fandango) beat Primo and Epico. The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso) show up after the match and say they will retain this Sunday at Backlash.

Commissioner Shane McMahon shows up to moderate a contract signing. He talks about the six-woman tag team match at Backlash, then brings out The Welcoming Committee (Natalya, Carmella, Tamina) before bringing out Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch and Naomi so that all six women can sign the contract. Natalya calls Charlotte "pathetic," and cannot wait to tell Becky Lynch "I told you so." After Natalya states The Welcoming Committee will win Sunday, the Committee signs. Becky says she had no intention of joining them and says she will slap all their faces. She signs. Naomi tells the Committee they will be snatched bald, and signs the contract as well. Charlotte says the Committee have had issue with her since she showed up, and tells them to bring all they have to the table as her team will solve their problems and she will go for the SmackDown Women's title afterwards. She signs. James Ellsworth then starts talking trash, and Naomi responds by grabbing James Ellsworth only for Carmella to slam her head into the table. Both Carmella and Naomi are held back, and Shane puts Carmella and Naomi in a match that happens next.

Carmella beats Naomi. During the match, James Ellsworth gets ejected from the match for helping Carmella escape the Rear View, and Natalya and Tamina get ejected when they try to topple Naomi off the top rope only to turn around and fight Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch, distracting Naomi and giving Carmella the schoolgirl pin for the win.

We see another vignette for The New Day (Kofi Kingston, Big E, Xavier Woods).

Dolph Ziggler says he simply wanted to know what makes "The King of Strong Style" Shinsuke Nakamura so great, and then says he has done nothing great while he has done everything. We see a video package of Dolph Ziggler, then Ziggler says he will beat Nakamura before his main roster career can begin and stick it to everyone who turned their backs on him.

Dasha Fuentes interviews Sami Zayn, who says he has asked for and been granted a match at Backlash against Baron Corbin, as Corbin is threatened by the fact he has done more than him. He is then attacked by Corbin, who tells him to either stay down or be put down this Sunday.

TJP announces that he is done with Austin Aries tonight on 205 Live.

Randy Orton beats Baron Corbin. After the match, Jinder Mahal shows up and tells Randy Orton to relish his victory and savor his time with the WWE Championship, for at Backlash, he destroys his pride, body and future. The Singh Brothers (Sunil and Samir Singh) attack Orton, but Orton is able to fight them off until Jinder Mahal attacks him from behind.

On Talking Smack, Erick Rowan wants a match with Luke Harper to teach Harper a lesson for leaving The Wyatt Family, as when someone leaves the Family, they leave him. Shane makes the match official for Backlash.

Here are the top 10 moments from tonight's show!
