Layin' da SmackDown - SmackDown Live recap for April 2, 2017

The shows starts with Jinder Mahal doing a photo shoot with the WWE Championship. Commissioner Shane McMahon shows up and says the title does not belong to him. Jinder tells Shane it will be his in due time, and that he will be thanking him when he brings glory to SmackDown Live. Shane then tells Jinder he has a match with Sami Zayn tonight before returning the WWE Championship to Randy Orton.

Commissioner Shane McMahon shows up, and introduces everyone to the newest member of SmackDown Live: United States Champion Chris Jericho, who heads to the ring and declares SmackDown Live "the new Show of Jericho." Shane announces that Jericho will defend the United States title tonight against Kevin Owens. Suddenly, AJ Styles shows up and tells him that SmackDown Live is the house that AJ Styles built, and says nothing would please him more than taking the US title from him at Backlash, assuming Jericho is still champion after tonight. Jericho reminds Styles about how he beat Kevin Owens last Sunday night, and is about to put Styles on The List when Kevin Owens shows up. He says that what is happening in the ring is the most pathetic thin he has seen in his career, and that he will take the US title back. He also tells Styles to get out of the ring as this does not even concern him. Styles gets out of the ring, walks up to Owens and proceeds to beat him up.

After the commercial break, it is announced that AJ Styles has been banned from ringside during Kevin Owens vs. Chris Jericho for the WWE United States Championship.

Jinder Mahal beats Sami Zayn with help from The Singh Brothers (identified during the match as Samir and Sunil Singh). Samil helps Jinder out of the ring during the Helluva KickBecky Lynch meets Tamina, James Ellsworth, Carmella and Tamina. Nattie says they're just trying to protect her from being stabbed in the back again after hearing what she said at Talking Smack, and says Necky Lynch should be getting title shots, not Charlotte. They make it known to Becky that they will keep an eye out for Charlotte for her, and want Becky to join them so they can make the SmackDown Live Women's Divison theirs. Becky admits she did not think about the situation that way, and says she will think about it.

Dolph Ziggler is talking with some people, complaining about "The King of Strong Style" Shinsuke Nakamura and saying that Backlash was built around him when he hasn't proven himself in a match yet. Commmissioner Shane McMahon, who is standing behind him, reminds Ziggler of Nakamura's name and his entrance from last week. Ziggler says Nakamura's entrance may be impressive, but if Shane wants to see something really impressive, he will watch what he does to Sin Cara later tonight.

Aiden English's pre-match singing is interrupted by "The Perfect Ten" Tye Dillinger.

"The Perfect Ten" Tye Dillinger beats Aiden English.

Renee Young interviews Chris Jericho when Aiden English shows up crying. Jericho puts Aiden English on The List for crying, then puts Renee Young on it, too.

Dasha Fuentes interviews Charlotte Flair. Charlotte says the "welcome committee" of Natalya, Carmella, Tamina and James Ellsworth delayed the inevitable last week. Suddenly, the "welcoming committee" shows up and beats Charlotte up.

Carmella and Natalya beats Naomi and Charlotte Flair (the latter of whom shows up in the middle of the match despite being beaten up) after Natalya distracts the referee, James Ellsworth gets on the apron to distract Naomi, and Carmella grabs Naomi's tights during the schoolgirl pin. After the match, Becky Lynch shows up, and after shaking hands and hugging Tamina, Natalya and Carmella, she shoves James Ellsworth out of the ring. Becky Lynch gets a beat down as a result, and Natalya, Carmella, Tamina and James Ellsworth stand tall in the ring.

Dolph Ziggler beats Sin Cara.

We see Lana dance in another vignette.

Noam Dar says he is delivering a gift straight to Rich Swann's face on 205 Live tonight.

In a skit titled "The Fashion Files," Breezango (Tyler Breeze and Fandango) start their chase for The Usos and the SmackDown tag team titles.

Kevin Owens beats Chris Jericho to become the WWE United States Champion! After the match, Owens gets back in the ring and attacks Jericho again as Jericho is being checked on by medical staff. Jericho has to be helped to the back, and while this is going on, Kevin Owens runs back in again, attacks Jericho, grabs a steel chair and wraps it around Jericho's head before tossing Jericho head-first into the ring post.

On Talking Smack, Kevin Owens and Commissioner Shane McMahon discuss if Owens went too far taking Chris Jericho out at the end of the show. Owens feels he did not.

Here are the top 10 moments from tonight's show!
