The debuting Kurt Angle beats Shawn Stasiak. (Interestingly, his theme was previously used by The Patriot, but the theme will be connected to him for years to come.) During the match, Kurt Angle gets on the microphone and tells them not to boo an Olympic gold medalist, as he came here for the fans.
Val Venis, "Sexual Chocolate" Mark Henry, Gangrel, "The Lethal Weapon" Steve Blackman beat The British Bulldog and The Mean Street Posse (Rodney, Pete Gas, Joey Abs) with Val Venis and Mark Henry as the survivors. Rodney is eliminated by Gangrel after an idavertent right hand to Rodney by Joey Abs.
The women's locker room has fun with Michael Cole.
Mae Young, The Fabulous Moolah, Tori and Debra beat Jacqueline, Luna Vachon, Terri Runnels and Ivory in a sudden death eight-woman tag team match following a double team by Mae Young and Moolah. After the match, Terri Runnels' top get removed, revealing her bra, then Ivory and Moolah brawl.
Lilian Garcia interviews X-Pac, who says he is ready to face an angry and determined Kane tonight, saying he has nothing to prove, has carried him for the longest time, and is better than him in every way imaginable.
Kane beats X-Pac by disqualification after interference by the rest of D-Generation X (Triple H, "Road Dogg" Jesse James, "Bad Ass" Billy Gunn). Tori runs into the ring and grabs X-Pac, but X-Pac turns around and inadvertently kicks her in the head. Kane gets enraged and D-Generation X scatters before Kane checks on Tori. EMTs shows up to check on Tori and revive her.
Michael Cole interviews The Rock. Suddenly, Triple H shows up and pushes The Rok, and both men brawl. Officials and referees move quickly into place to pull both men apart.
Big Show beats Prince Albert, Mideon, Viscera and The Big Boss Man single-handedly in what is effectively a 4-on-1 gauntlet match after Big Boss Man runs away following the quick decimation of the rest of his tag team partners.
Kevin Kelly interviews "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, but Austin is quickly attacked by Triple H. Austin chases after Triple H backstage, and X-Pac and "Road Dogg" Jesse James also run backstage. Austin is seen looking for Triple H when a black car busts through a fence and runs Stone Cold down. Vince McMahon runs to the garage and finds Austin down on the ground, as does Test and WWF co-owners Shane and Stephanie McMahon. Austin is still breathing, and EMTs put him in an ambulance. D-Generation X (Triple H, X-Pac, "Road Dogg" Jesse James, "Bad Ass" Billy Gunn) show up, and Vince confronts them as Triple H says he has nothing to do with this. Jim Ross is also seen backstage to see to Austin, and he returns to commentary for the next match.
Chyna retains the WWF Intercontinental Championship against Chris Jericho. During the match, Chyna inadvertently pokes referee Earl Hebner in the eye, and Jericho takes advantage by hitting Chyna with the Intercontinental Championship only to score a near-fall. Chyna hits the Pedigree soon afterwards, but Jericho kicks out of it. When she goes for the hurricanrana, however, he reverses it into the Walls of Jericho, and Chyna grabs the ropes to break the hold. When Jericho readies a superplex, Chyna hits Jericho with a low blow thanks to the distraction from Miss Kitty, and hits a Pedigree from the top rope to retain.
Triple H and X-Pac meet with WWF co-owner Shane McMahon, and tell him personally that they did not plan the hit and run on "Stone Cold" Steve Austin. Triple H then asks if the WWF Championship match is still a Triple Threat Match, and Shane tells him and X-Pac to get out.
The Hollys (Hardcore and Crash Holly) and Too Cool (Grandmaster Sexay and Scotty 2 Hotty) beat Edge, Christian and The Hardy Boyz (Jeff and Matt Hardy) with Hardcore Holly as the sole survivor after Hardcore Holly stops a Victory Roll from Christian cold.
WWF co-owner Shane McMahon reports that "Stone Cold" Steve Austin has severed severe head, neck and back trauma, is undergoing a lot of tests and is in a lot of pain. He says that there will be a Triple Threat Match for the WWF Championship; however, Austin will not be a part of it.
Before the next match, Mankind says that "Stone Cold" Steve Austin is one tough son-of-a-bitch, and after this match is over, he will be thinking about him. For now, Mankind and Al Snow are thinking about something else, and that is The New Age Outlaws' ("Road Dogg" Jesse James and "Bad Ass" Billy Gunn) asses.
The New Age Outlaws ("Road Dogg" Jesse James and "Bad Ass" Billy Gunn) retain the wWF Tag Team Championships against Mankind and Al Snow.
Referee Earl Hebner replaces WWF Chairman Vince McMahon as the referee for the next match, and Big Show replaces "Stone Cold" Steve Austin as the third man.
Big Show beats Triple H and The Rock to become the WWF Champion! During the match, The Rock inadvertently clotheslines referee Earl Hebner and manages to hit Triple H with the Rock Bottom, but Hebner is down. WWF co-owner Shane McMahon runs into the ring with a referee's shirt on, but Triple H kicks out. After another Rock Bottom, Big Show drags Shane out of the ring before fighting The Rock at ringside. Shane gets hit with a Pedigree by Triple H when Shane stops him from using the WWF Championship as a weapon. Shortly after this, the rest of D-Generation X (X-Pac, "Road Dogg" Jesse James, "Bad Ass" Billy Gunn) run in and attack The Rock and Big Show, but WWF Chairman Vince McMahon shows up, grabs the WWF Championship, swings it at Triple H's head and misses, then hits him with it the second time around. Big Show choke slams Triple H and wins the title after Vince makes the three-count.
