Layin' da SmackDown - SmackDown recap for June 9, 2023

Paul Heyman and Solo Sikoa are in the ring. Heyman is about to speak to start tonight's show when Jey Uso shows up. Jey tells Solo he has let a lot of things slide, but stabbing his brother Jimmy Uso in the back is something one does not do. He admits he does not know if he can forgive him for that, then tells Heyman to say what he has to say. Heyman says Jey has it all wrong, as it is all Jimmy's fault and nobody else's because Jimmy made up his own mind and not just for himself, but also for Jey. Heyman has Solo take a step back, then says he is taking a stance standing between Jey and Solo and telling Jey that Jimmy was the one to pull the trigger and that Jey was not in on it. He says that Jimmy has always resented Jey because he is in on the fact that Roman Reigns wants to groom Jey to be the next Tribal Chief. Heyman says that this was always Jey's fate and that it was never meant for Jimmy, and that Jey was meant to be Tribal Chief since the beginning. He then says that he has arranged a match that will set Jey's trajectory to become the next Tribal Chief. He says it will not be for tag team gold as Jimmy broke up The Usos, and announces that Jey Uso will defeat Austin Theory for the United States Championship and become the heir to the throne. Heyman then tells Jey that he needs his answer now, and hands Jey the microphone. Jey says he will take him up on the challenge, but he will get back to him on becoming the next Tribal Chief. Jay then leaves.

LA Knight guests on commentary for the next match.

Santos Escobar beats Mustafa Ali to qualify for the men's Money In The Bank Ladder Match. The rest of the Latino World Order celebrates with Escobar after the match.

Backstage, Jey Uso is met by Sami Zayn. Sami says that the times they had in The Bloodline were the best in his career and his life, and bets they were the best in Jey's as well, and says that when "The Tribal Chief" takes over, Roman Reigns goes too far. He says that he kept putting the family first only to be forced to prove himself and wasted tested against his own brother, and that the same thing is happening to Jey. He then tells Jey to do what is in his heart and not what is being put in his ear, and to be ready for the consequences that follow.

Kayla Braxton interviews Isla Dawn and Alba Fyre in the ring. Before anything else can happen, "Rowdy" Ronda Rousey and "The Queen of Spades" Shayna Baszler show up, and Shayna calls them out for being tag team champions and asks how much they know about the history of their titles. Baszler says she is the reason the NXT Women's tag titles even exist, and Ronda comes to the conclusion that the division is not big enough for the both of them and that they want their titles. Isla entertains the idea of a title unification match, then Alba accepts before both teams brawl. Shayna and Ronda have the upper hand at first, but Isla and Alba fight back. Ronda eventually has to hold Baszler back.

WWE pays tribute to The Iron Shiek. In memory of The Iron Shiek, 1942 - 2023.

"The Phenomenal" AJ Styles guests on commentary for the next match.

Bayley beats "Michin" Mia Yim to qualify for the women's Money In The Bank Ladder Match. After the match, Scarlett shows up and blows red dust into "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles' eyes, blinding him so that Karrion Kross can put Styles in the Kross Jacket from behind the barricade.

Backstage, Bianca Belair meets with WWE official Adam Pearce, who announces that Asuka will be presented with a new championship belt. He asks Bianca not to attack Asuka during the proceedings and to leave everything alone just for tonight, and reminds her she is in line for a rematch. Bianca says she will do him a solid and will not attack Asuka.

Backstage, "Michin" Mia Yim assures the rest of The O.C. ("The Phenomenal" AJ Styles, Luke Gallows, Karl Anderson) that they will get their revenge on Karrion Kross and Scarlett.

WWE official Adam Pearce introduces Asuka to the ring to award her with a new championship belt. Pearce reveals the belt - now known as the WWE Women's Championship, which replaces the WWE Raw Women's Championship - which looks just like the new WWE Undisputed Universal Championship belt with a white leather strap, then Charlotte Flair shows up for the first time since WrestleMania. Pearce says he knows where this is going and that she needs to get in line, but Charlotte says she does not wait in line because she made the line. She then says that she knows Asuka and respects her, as she knows what she can do, then challenges her for the championship. Asuka accepts the challenge, then Charlotte tells Pearce to make the match official so she can put the title around her waist, too. Asuka tries to spit blue mist at Charlotte, but Charlotte avoids it and chucks Asuka out of the ring.

Backstage, Jey Uso is met by Paul Heyman, who admits that Jey got him and left him hanging and that his whole life has been a cliffhanger. He then asks for his passport and his suit measurement, as he will be flying internationally with Roman Reigns and Solo and because they will be having a triple celebration when tonight is all over. Jey says he loves the idea and tells him to count him in, then says he does not know why Heyman is laughing, because if he is in The Bloodline, that means that Paul Heyman will be out of The Bloodline.

Backstage, WWE official Adam Pearce tries to make Charlotte Flair vs. Asuka for the WWE Women's Championship official when Bianca Belair shows up. Pearce says he has it all figured out, and Bianca says when she gets her lick back, it will be justified.

Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams are in the front row.

Before the next match, Baron Corbin says he will become Mr. Money In The Bank again before warning Trick Williams not to jump the barricade or else he will jump him like he did last week.

Butch beats Baron Corbin with a roll-up style pin to qualify for the men's Money In The Bank Ladder Match. After the match, Baron Corbin takes his anger out on Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams, and this starts a confrontation that security and referees have to break up.

Backstage, Megan Morant interviews Butch, who says he is coming home and taking the Money In The Bank briefcase, because every night is fight night. Baron Corbin shows up and blames his loss on Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams, then gets jumped from behind by Cameron Grimes.

Iyo Sky beats Shotzi to qualify for the women's Money In The Bank Ladder Match.

Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviews Austin Theory. Theory says he is the last person to find out about tonight's title defense and considers that disrespect, and that he will send Jey Uso back to The Bloodline as the failure that he is and asks Paul Heyman to check him out if he needs a new client.

Backstage, Sami Zayn is met by Kevin Owens. Sami says that he has talked to Jey Uso and that what will happen remains to be seen, then Pretty Deadly (Kit Wilson and Elton Prince) show up and want a tag team title shot. Suddenly The Brawling Brutes (Ridge Holland and Sheamus) show up, as do The O.C. (Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson), The Latino World Order (Joaquin Wilde and Cruz del Toro) and The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford). After Kevin Owens gets flustered, WWE official Adam Pearce puts all of the teams in a Gauntlet Match to see who faces Sami and Owens for the undisputed tag team titles.

We see a vignette for Grayson Waller.

Austin Theory retains the WWE United States Championship against Jey Uso. During the match, Jey inadvertently knocks Theory into the referee, knocking down the referee. After Jey hits Theory with the top rope splash, Pretty Deadly (Kit Wilson and Elton Prince) show up, but Jimmy Uso fights them off. Solo Sikoa shows up to beat up Jimmy and hit him with the Samoan Spike. Jey stops the Samoan Spike, but Jimmy inadvertently superkicks Jey afterwards. As Jimmy deals with Solo, Theory goes for the pinfall and gets the win to retain the title. After the match, Paul Heyman watches from behind Solo Sikoa, and Jey Uso shoves Jimmy away before leaving. Heyamn apologizes to Jey as Jey makes his way out, then calls Roman Reigns.
