Raw Deal - Raw recap for June 5, 2023

Seth "Freakin'" Rollins heads to the ring to start tonight's show. Rollins asks when Raw last had a live world championship match, and mentions it has been nearly two years since that happened. He says two years has been "too damn long" and that he went onto Twitter and made an open challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship tonight, which was answered by Damian Priest. Rollins admits he is "kinda psyched about it" and reiterates that he wants fights and wants to fight the best, and states that The Judgment Day (Finn Balor, Damian Priest, Rhea Ripley, Dominik Mysterio) are as good as it gets and that he looks forward to showing that as good as they are, they are not him. Finn Balor and Damian Priest show up, and Rollins asks where Rhea Ripley and Dominik Mysterio. Priest says Rhea and Dominik have their own business to worry about and that Rollins should be worried about him. Rollins questions Finn Balor standing next to him and whether or not they do virtually everything together, then Finn Balor mocks Rollins before telling him he will not love it when Priest beats him for the World Heavyweight Championship tonight. Priest admits that Rollins is a deserving champion and that his accomplishments speak for themselves, and while Rollins has beaten them all, so has he, and with this opportunity in front of him when he did not expect it, he will take it and he will not fall. After Priest says that he can beat Rollins for the title on his own, Rollins appreciates his courage, then tells Priest to put his money where his money where his mouth is and leave The Judgment Day in the back, especially when Finn does not fare well in fights with him. Finn Balor protests, but Priest says he is fine with this and accepts that challenge before telling Rollins that he will beat him and leave him with the shortest reign ever. Rollins loves what is going on, then says his reign is already longer than Finn Balor's.

Becky Lynch beats Sonya Deville to qualify for the women's Money In The Bank Ladder Match despite interference attempts by Chelsea Green. During the match, Trish Stratus and Zoey Stark show up to watch the match from the stage.

Backstage, Byron Saxton interviews Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens. Sami says it is nice to see The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso)do what they should have done months ago, albeit just Jimmy Uso, with the jury still out on Jey. As Sami says The Bloodline are not their problem anymore, Imperium (Ludwig Kaiser and Giovanni Vinci) show up and says they are their problem as long as they are champions. As Kevin Owens shouts at them for showing up without being called again, Gunther shows up and says that Owens lacks discipline. Owens immediately challenges Gunther to a match and heads to the ring.

We see a vignette for Katana Chance and Kayden Carter.

Backstage, Cathy Kelley interviews Matt Riddle. Matt Riddle says he is tired of Gunther cheating week after week, and as he says that Gunther would not be Intercontinental Championship had it not been for Ludwig Kaiser and Giovanni Vinci, Kaiser and Vinci show up and berate him for his comments about Gunther. When Riddle asks Kaiser what he will do about it, Kaiser asks Riddle what he will do about it and pokes him in the process. Riddle throws Kaiser over the road crate and catches a boot from Vinci before putting him in an ankle lock and getting carried off by officials after snapping Vinci's leg.

Backstage, Byron Saxton interviews "Rowdy" Ronda Rousey and "The Queen of Spades" Shayna Baszler. Baszer says is this destiny that they both envisioned years ago, and Ronda says it is past time that the women's tag team titles be legitimized as she issues an open challenge for the titles, which is answered by Katana Chance and Kayden Carter. Ronda and Baszler call them both small, brave and stupid before Baszler says they will tear the tendons from their bodies.

"Rowdy" Ronda Rousey and "The Queen of Spades" Shayna Baszler beat Kayden Carter and Katana Chance with a Kirifuda Clutch from Baszler to Kayden.

Backstage, Ricochet is met by Bronson Reed, who takes offense to Ricochet being in the Money In The Bank Ladder Match despite having lost to him. Ricochet reminds Bronson that Bronson lost his qualifying match against Shinsuke Nakamura while he won his. Bronson says he had Nakamura, but Nakamura shows up and says that was until he beat him. Bronson leaves, then Ricochet commends Nakamura on how he handled Bronson before telling him that he will beat him tonight. Nakamura tells him that they will see.

We see a vignette for Johnny Gargano, who says it is easy to label him as the underdog when he has something people cannot measure and that people have thought that they could take one look and understand him. He says he was a kid in Cleveland, Ohio with a dream, and while he was first told that there was no place for him in NXT, he became the face of NXT five years later before heading to Raw. He dares people to underestimate him, for that is where he thrives while doing things in his own special way.

Ricochet vs. Shinsuke Nakamura ends in a no-contest after Bronson Reed shows up and attacks both men.

Backstage, Alpha Academy (Chad Gable and Otis) talk with Maxxine Dupri. Gable says that Otis is the reason that his brawn and her brains came together, and that in order to become an Alpha, one does not run from a fight. After Maxxine mentions Valhalla chasing after her like a wild animal, Otis says they will take The Viking Raiders out with some deodorant, then says Maxxine might be ready to take on Valhalla. When Gable mentions Maxxine's outfit, Maxxine says she has the perfect outfit in her locker.

It's time for Miz TV. Tonight's guest is "The American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes. On the subject of fighting Brock Lesnar with one good arm, Cody says we will not be seeing Lesnar for a while due to his "annual hibernation." Miz then announces that he has invited another person who shares the same pressures as a second-generation talent, then introduces Dominik Mysterio. Dominik Mysterio heads to the ring with Rhea Ripley, then Rhea shutz Miz up so Dominik can announce something. Dominik says Cody is "a little birdy with a broken wing" while he has done hard time and also calls Cody a bad father after mentioning Cody's list of towns Brock Lesnar can find him. He mentions Cody having a baby daughter only to be here like a "deadbeat dad" like Rey Mysterio.Cody makes fun of Dominik's "fifteen minutes" in jail and says he has a worse jail tattoo then he is, then says that Rey gave him a public spanking. He then states that Rey has made his share of mistakes and that he can tell because he is looking at one. Dominik and Rhea leave, then Dominik turns around and slaps Cody in the face before hiding behind Rhea. Rhea and Dominik then leave for real. Cody responds by knocking Miz out with his injured hand.

Zoey Stark beats Natalya to qualify for the women's Money In The Bank Ladder Match after Trish Stratus kicks the knee out from behind Natalya when the referee is not looking.

We hear from Paul Heyman, who cordially invites everyone to watch on SmackDown when Jey Uso makes his historic choice. He says that as "The Wise Man," he is tasked at times to deliver unpleasant news, even if he has to deliver it to Roman Reigns. He says that this is no different and that the news will not be pleasant, because on Friday night, Jey Uso will make his choice and will choose and stand by his brother - Solo, not Jimmy Uso - and that he will never be close to Jimmy as he is to Roman Reigns and that Jey Uso will acknowledge that fact.

Indus Sher (Veer Mahaan and Sanga) vs. Cedric Alexander and Shelton Benjamin eds in a no-contest after Indus Sher absolutely destroy Cedric Alexander.

Seth "Freakin'" Rollins retains the World Heavyweight Championship against Damian Priest. Despite the rest of The Judgment Day (Finn Balor, Rhea Ripley, Dominik Mysterio) not allowed to show up during the match, Finn Balor shows up only for Rollins to quickly superkick him.
