Generation NXT - NXT recap for April 18, 2023

Gallus (Mark Coffey and Wolfgang) retain the NXT Tag Team Championships against The Creed Brothers (Julius and Brutus Creed) and The Dyad (Rip Fowler and Jagger Reid) after Ivy Nile confronts Ava Raine for distracting Julius only for Jagger Reid to fall on her from the apron in an act of incidental contact as Brutus shoves Jagger off the top rope and hits the Brutus Ball on Rip Fowler. As Julius checks on Ivy Nile on the outside, Gallus double-team Brutus Creed to retain.

In backstage footage from earlier today, Dijak says that if the main roster wants hard justice, they know where to find him. Dijak then shoves the cameraman to the ground after being asked about his actions towards Ilja Dragunov, then Apollo Crews confronts Dijak and challenges him to a match.

Noam Dar is next!

It's time for Nathan Frazer presents Hard Hitting Home Truths with Nathan Frazer. Frazer admits his return to NXT since Halloween Havoc has not been going so well and feels something is missing, but he soon realized that NXT is cutthroat and says that everyone is quality or else they would not be here. He says all one has to do is look inward and that nothing can affect if he does not slow down, and says that if one constantly improves, nothing can catch him. He then says it is time to practice what he preaches and turn things around.

Noam Dar beats Myles Borne.

We hear from Roxanne Perez, who says that while Zoey Stark can go in the ring, that does not give her free reign to run people down like she does and prey on people who she perceives as weak, which makes her the weakest one. She says that she will shut Stark up on her way back to the NXT Women's Championship, and if she has to beat Tiffany Stratton and her self-entitlement to get the title back, so be it.

Josh Briggs meets with Kiana James and asks her to talk to Brooks Jensen, but Kiana asks Briggs to talk to Jensen himself. Jensen shows up with cleaner clothes, his hair tailed back and a moustache, and when Briggs asks him to come back, Jensen says he is not a kid or part of his family, then says that Kiana has always treated him like a man before telling Briggs to leave.

Odyssey Jones is attacked by Bron Breakker before the next match, then says that this is what happens when someone gets in his way. He then says he had to put a stop to the "pathetic" Chase University assembly where everyone got a trophy. He says that if anyone wants to be a clown, they can go to the circus, because he is not allowing it anymore. Bron says that Odyssey Jones, Carmelo Hayes and Andre Chase felt it, then Duke Hudson shows up and tells Bron to keep Andre Chase's name out of his mouth and that he made a big mistake interrupting his MVP ceremony and tearing the Chase University flag in half before placing it on top of Andre Chase. After mocking Bron Breakker for being sad and moping about, he says that nobody puts down the Chase University name, not even Bron Breakker, and on behalf of the university, he challenges Bron to a match. Bron says the last time he saw Hudson, he took off and ran with the trophy faster than he had ever seen, then Hudson laughs at Bron for thinking he was done talking and says next week will be "a battle of the giants" when he faces Andre Chase and gets a Chase University-sized ass-whipping. Bron looks at the camera and tells Andre Chase to enjoy the next seven days, he will Spear his little ass in half and it will be the end of Chase U.

Backstage, MacKenzie Mitchell interviews Cora Jade. Jade says she was being nice, but Lyra Valkyria interrupted her before she could get to the rest of the locker and say more about the rest of the locker room. Gigi Dolin shows up and says she took out her anger on people in the ring, and that her "Instagram ass" will beat hers tonight.

Backstage, MacKenzie Mitchell interviews Pretty Deadly (Kit Wilson and Elton Prince). Elton Prince says the only way to get through The D'Angelo Family is to speak their language, and Kit Wilson almost panics when he mentions what he went through. He says Pretty Deadly will never be ambushed again, and that they will happily hand them another beating as they speak their language, play by their rules and leave them "sleeping with the fishes" next week.

Roxanne Perez beats Zoey Stark. After the match, Indi Hartwell shows up and congratulates Roxanne Perez, then says she would not be champion if it were not for her and that it would not be fair if she did not return the favor with a title match next week as a fighting champion. Roxanne says Indi is her friend in and out of the ring, but when it comes to the NXT women's title, it is every woman for herself, and she accepts the challenge. Tiffany Stratton shows up and takes offense to not being considered for a title shot, and calls Indi's title reign "pure dumb luck" after she barely climbed up the ladder and challenged beatable opponents. After Roxanne says Tiffany could not even beat her to win the Women's Breakout Tournament, Indi says she does not care if her challenger is an ex-champion or "some bimbo who thinks she has her number," as she will prove herself by beating both of them.

Backstage, Mackenzie Mitchell interviews Grayson Waller, who says he is still on top of NXT and that Carmelo Hayes has what he wants, and next week, he will beat Carmelo Hayes for the NXT Championship.

In backstage footage from last week, Von Wagner opens up to Mr. Stone, saying that the WWE is in his blood and that his father "was a Beverly Brother." (Von Wagner's father is Wayne Bloom, who wrestled as Beau Beverly in the WWE back in the early 1990s.) Mr. Stone tells him that is a start.

We see Axiom look into a mirror and say that he only sees Axiom, as it is his identity. He wants to know why Scrypts is speaking in riddles to him, then says that Scrypts is not his nemesis and that he will be done with him when he beats him.

We see a Tiktok video of everyone in the Performance Center congratulating Tank Ledger on his NXT debut. Ledger says he felt the energy when he debuted, and that Dani Palmer will feel that energy when she debuts and crushes it.

Cora Jade beats Gigi Dolin after Jacy Jayne tries to attack Gigi Dolin only to be thrown into the ring steps and into Booker T at the announce table. After the match, Lyra Valkyria shows up as Cora Jade is about to speak on the microphone and tells Cora that the time for talking is over and that next week, her claim to be "the savior of the women's division" will be tested when they engage in battle at Spring Breakin'.

Backstage, Mackenzie Mithell interviews Eddy Thorpe, who says that he travelled all around the world to see if he could make it in the wrestling business and he focused on enhancing his skill set and gaining knowledge so he could make his family proud. As he says that people have stereotypical images about Native Americans in their mind and that he plans to succeed in NXT, Damon Kemp shows up and says he was impressed with him and that he might have something.

At Big Daddy's Bar, Josh Briggs talks with Fallon Henley about Brooks Jensen, and Fallon says that Kiana has Jensen wrapped around her finger. Kiana and Jensen soon show up. Jensen says that Briggs has held him back since they started teaming and that he is the star of the team, and that Briggs and Fallon are jealous of his great relationship. Briggs refuses to take the disrespect, and Fallon Henley asks Kiana why she is here. Jensen and Kiana then challenge Briggs and Fallon to a mixed tag match at Spring Breakin'. Briggs says that if this is the way he will knock sense into him, and Fallon says that she has wanted to get her hands on Kiana before kicking Kiana and Jensen out of the bar.

Dijak beats Apollo Crews. After the match, Dijak grabs Apollo Crews, but Ilja Dragunov runs into the ring and attacks Dijak. Referees and security have to separate both men.

Backstage, Jacy Jayne says that if Gigi Dolin thought her life was hard before, it is nothing compared to what she will do to her. She then says that Gigi abandoned her brother to suffer the wrath of their mother and would rather wrestle than protect his brother. She then says that when she is done with Gigi Dolin, she will run away from NXT like she did her mother and her brother.

Wes Lee retains the NXT North American Championship against Charlie Dempsey after fending off both Dempsey and Drew Gulak. After the match, Gulak and Dempsey gang up on Wes Lee and attack him.

At an Italian restaurant, Tony D'Angelo and Channing "Stacks" Lorenzo think about how to get revenge on Pretty Deadly (Kit Wilson and Elton Prince). D'Angelo proposes that they do what they did to Paulie Montgomery, then says that the gloves come off and that they will face Pretty Deadly in a Trunk Match. D'Angelo then says that after Pretty Deadly get stuffed in the trunk, he will take them for a nice, long drive.

We see a vignette for Oba Femi where Femi throws numerous objects over great distances. Oba Femi debuts next week.

It's time for The Grayson Waller Effect. Tonight's guest is Carmelo Hayes, who shows up with Trick Williams. Carmelo Hayes gives Grayson Waller credit for finding himself in the main event despite continually losing. Waller says that he has become the biggest star without a title as much as Carmelo has with one, and says he is what a championship needs. Grayson Waller then questions "He is Him," then says that "Him" is Trick Williams and that Carmelo would not be a champion without him. Carmelo, having seen this coming, says Waller stole every opportunity he had and that Waller may not be "that guy." Carmelo then has Grayson Waller's accomplishments on the TitanTron, then nothing shows up, and Carmelo says Waller does not have any. Waller says Carmelo may have won the NXT Championship, but he stole the show. After Waller says he was the main event before Carmelo's music hit, Carmelo says that his "six out of ten" is three more points than any woman Waller has dated. After both men say they should be carrying other people's bags and roast each other, Waller says he will be champion and Carmelo says he will retain.

Here are the top ten moments from tonight's show!
