Generation NXT - NXT recap for April 4, 2023

Indi Hartwell heads to the ring to start tonight's show. The crowd chants "You deserve it!," and after Indi says the crowd has no idea how much she has wanted to hear it, the crowd chants "Indi Wrestling!" Indi says she still cannot believe she is NXT Women's Champion. Indi admits she never thought this would happen, as she would always get a few wins and gain some momentum, but she would go right back down, and while she was a women's tag champion, she doubted that she could do it on her own. She then thanks the fans for never doubting her and staying by her side, then thanks Roxanne Perez for the opportunity and says that Roxanne should get the first opportunity at the championship. Suddenly, Zoey Stark shows up and says she cannot stand listening to what she is hearing, then tells Indi that she is holding a title that has been held by legends and future Hall of Famers and calls Indi having the title "disgusting." Stark tells Indi that she is nowhere near the level of those past champions and that NXT now has a "very beatable Women's Champion" while stating that Roxanne has been radio silent and should be behind her, much less at the back of the line. Stark then demands that Indi give her a title shot since she wants to hand them out, and Indi accepts the challenge so she can see how beatable she is. Stark then says Indi has made the biggest mistake of her life and will have the shortest reign in history.

We see Twitter footage of Wes Lee at the airport, where he is suddenly met by Axiom wanting a one-on-one title shot. Wes Lee tells Axiom that he brought it on Saturday, and that he will see him tomorrow.

Pretty Deadly (Kit Wilson and Elton Prince) bet The D'Angelo Family (Tony D'Angelo and Channing "Stacks" Lorenzo) after Pretty Deadly execute a bait-and-switch strategy with the ring skirt that allows Elton Prince to slam Tony D'Angelo's head into a turnbuckle exposed by Kit Wilson earlier in the match for the win.

We hear from Jacy Jayne, who mocks Gigi Dolin for losing at Stand & Deliver after she showed up and punched her off the ladder and says that she made sure that Gigi would not lose the NXT Women's Championship Ladder Match. She says that she has broken her face and her heart, and all that is left to break is her will.

Dijak beats Odyssey Jones.

We see a video package for Dragon Lee, who is in action next.

In backstage footage from moments ago, Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams are seen making their way to the arena.

Backstage, McKenzie Mitchell interviews Gallus (Joe Coffey, Mark Coffey, Wolfgang). Joe Coffey says they are on top like they should be, and Mark Coffey says that there are more trouble now than they were as a duo. Joe Coffey then decides it is time to bring his own gold to Gallus to prove NXT is their kingdom.

Before the next match, Noam Dar shows up out of the crowd with the NXT UK Heritage Cup Championship and announces that he is part of NXT. He acknowledges the Heritage Cup, then says only he will decide who is worthy enough to face him for it before watching the match from ringside.

Dragon Lee beats Nathan Frazer.

At Chase University, Andre Chase says it felt good to "kick the living shit" out of and thanks honorary Chase University alumni Tyler Bate for his contributions. Duke Hudson reminds Andre Chase that he helped get the job done, but Andre Chase says that Hudson reminded him that he may not be interested in earning an award. Hudson says that making this victory possible and giving Chase University an historic win is an honor that should be celebrated, and Andre Chase announces that next week, there will be a celebration where Hudson will be awarded the MVP Trophy.

We hear from Isla Dawn and Alba Fyre. Alba says they have seized the seats of power and now sit on their thrown, and Isla says they made good on what they set out to do, yet did not scorch the earth. Alba says it is never that easy in NXT and that there will always be ashes left smoldering. Isla then receives a sign that they are not done with their opposition yet, and Alba says they will take care of them when the time comes. Isla then proclaims that since they have now risen, the women's division will see how dangerous they can be. The two of them have a toast to their victory.

Backstage, Mackenzie Mitchell interviews Wes Lee, who says that his ladder match felt like a pinball machine with everyone bouncing around and that he picked his opponents well, as every single one of them did well, including Axiom, who really impressed him to the point that he owes him one. He knows they are both sore, but tonight, they are about to go at it again for the North American Championship.

Indi Hartwell retains the NXT Women's Championship against Zoey Stark after falling out of the ring after Zoey hits the Z360 and countering the pinfall attempt back inside the ring with a crucifix pin. After the match, Tiffany Stratton shows up and stares Indi down from the ramp. All of a sudden, Indi Hartwell is attacked from behind by Cora Jade, who has not been seen in some time.

Backstage, Brooks Jensen apologizes to Kiana James for not being there for her, and Fallon Henley and Josh Briggs show up and chew Kiana James out for expecting Jensen to cheat on her behalf. After Fallon mentions that Kiana James has cheated on Brooks Jensen for Sebastian, Kiana says that she and Jensen were never "exclusive," then admits that while she felt that she could trust Jensen after their first kiss, she feels she cannot after Saturday. A confused Jensen tells Fallon and Briggs to stay out of his relationship and leaves.

In memory of "Bushwhacker Butch Miller, 1944 - 2023.

In backstage footage from moments ago, Cora Jade says that she will explain her actions next week, then Lyra Valkyria shows up and welcomes Cora Jade back before telling her she cannot escape fate.

Ivy Nile beats Tatum Paxley with the Diamond Chain. After the match, Ivy Nile celebrates with The Creed Brothers (Julius and Brutus Creed).

Backstage, Mackenzie Mitchell interviews Ilja Dragunov. Dragunov says he was chosen for the North American Championship Ladder Match because he chases monsters and challenges, and admits that while Wes Lee is a good champion, he had him. He says nothing in life worth having comes easy, then Von Wagner shows up and says that is a lot of talk for someone who did not get the job done, then says he is the biggest monster Dragunov has ever seen in his life. Dragunov mentions Von Wagner not getting a match at Stand & Deliver at all, then Mr. Stone gets between the two of them and tells Von Wagner that he will get him a match with Dragunov next week. He then stipulates that if Von Wagner does not win, their partnership is done.

Wes Lee retains the NXT North American Championship against Axiom. After the match, both men raise each others' hands in a sign of respect. All of a sudden, Scrypt's voice is heard in the arena. He tells Axiom that he sees everything and that he knows Axiom, then announces that he will expose Axiom. Scrypts then tries to attack Axiom only to be outsmarted.

Backstage, Mackenzie Mitchell interviews Nathan Frazer. He admits he did not start the year off in a good note, he believes he can turn it around. When told that he is wise beyond his years at 24 with a positive attitude like that, Frazer says that when one has a moment of enlightenment, perspective changes, and so does reality.

We see a video package introducing Tank Ledger, Dani Palmer and Oba Femi to NXT.

Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams head to the ring. After stating that he stood and delivered, he says that the last eighteen months were well worth the wait and that he is champion and he is Him. Trick Williams declares this moment going forward "the Him Era." Carmelo says that he attracted championships instead of chasing them, and that he had to take the championship in order to earn it. After both he and Trick quote Nelly, Carmelo thanks Bron Breakker for being one of his greatest opponents. Carmelo says he had to give Bron Breakker and that he had to give him that honest respect, then asks Bron Breakker to come to the ring. Bron Breakker shows up and heads to the ring. Carmelo tells Bron that they brought it to each other, and thanks Breakker for presenting him with the NXT Championship. He says he does not know what Breakker's future holds, then thanks Breakker. Breakker appreciates this, saying the NXT Championship holds a great legacy, and that it his duty to pass the torch to the next guy in line. He says that Tommaso Ciampa did it for him, and that he did it for Carmelo Hayes. He says that NXT is just as much about the fans as it is about the Superstars, and congratulates Carmelo Hayes one more time. Before Breakker can leave, Carmelo asks Breakker to shake his hand, and both men hug in a show of respect before Breakker raises Carmelo's hand. Breakker then clotheslines Carmelo, attacks Trick, then hits Carmelo with a Spear before leaving the ring.

Here are the top ten moments from tonight's show!
