Generation NXT 2.0 - NXT 2.0 recap for September 21, 2021

Seven NXT Superstars are in the ring as Tommaso Ciampa enters the ring to start tonight's show. Ciampa says that after 908 days, he reclaimed his spot at the top of the mountain and took back the title that he never lost, then says it has been a long journey that has been worth "every damn second." Ciampa says it feels good to be NXT Champion again, then says "I missed you, too" to the NXT Championship and that the new Superstars are ready to show what they are made of. He then says that he will always be "Mr. NXT," then says that even with a new coat of paint, the passion that everyone has - even the fans, whom he calls the heartbeat and soul of the brand - in NXT has never changed. Ciampa then says that with him as NXT Champion, NXT became the A-show, then tells the fans to make the world feel them, for they are NXT. Suddenly, Cameron Grimes shows up. Grimes says all this energy has gotten him fired up, and that the NXT Championship has the rocket fuel he needs to go to the moon. Suddenly, Joe Gacy cuts Grimes off, but LA Knight arrives. Knight says he is looking at "a heap of happy hot garbage" and that the fans should be chanting that he deserves it, but Odyssey Jones tells Knight he lost two matches in the same night last week. Pete Dunne and Ridge Holland show up, and Dunne tells everyone in the ring to make a name for themselves before calling them a geezer who is scared to throw the first punch. Ciampa punches Dunne, starting a multi-man brawl with more Superstars joining in. Tomasso Ciampa and Bron Breakker are the last two standing tall in the ring. Backstage, there is a brawl between four female NXT Superstars, and in the ring, Ciampa and Breakker keep Dunne and Ridge at bay. Breakker then challenges Dunne and Ridge to a tag team match against him and Ciampa.

Roderick Strong beats KUSHIDA to become the NXT Cruiserweight Champion after Malcolm Bivens puts Strong's foot on the bottom rope to break the Hoverboard Lock, then distracts the referee so that the whole of Diamond Mine can beat up KUSHIDA. After the match, Grayson Waller shows up, then says that after what happened to Drake Maverick last week, the new NXT is a jungle, but if anyone can survive the jungle, it is him. He then says he is not waiting for an opportunity and is going to take one, and challenges Strong for the Cruiserweight Championship next week. Bivens says that next week, Diamond Mine will show why they run NXT.

We hear from Tony D'Angelo, who says that his family had many investments in many interests in the Atlantic, and that his family takes family and business seriously. He then says that his success in WWE is going to be a third thing that will be taken seriously very soon.

We see a vignette for Brooks Jensen and Josh Briggs, who talk about their bar brawling skills and their love for fighting before stating that the tag team division is in trouble.

Kay Lee Ray beats Amari Miller.

Backstage, McKenzie Mitchell interviews Bron Breakker. Breakker says tonight is big for him as he is in the ring with three of the biggest men in NXT. Tommaso Ciampa says it sink or swim time, and Bron Breaker says there is no better person to team with than "the champ."

WWE's first Singaporean Superstar, Dante Chen, is next!

In backstage footage from earlier today, Xyon Quinn helps two women into the Performance Center. When a man tries to walk in before them, Quinn stop him and lets the ladies through, then beats the guy up.

Dante Chen beats Trey Baxter.

We see a vignette for Chase University, where Andre Chase teaches how Odyssey Jones fails to get ahead in his career by losing to Carmelo Hayes with a weak cover. When a student names Steve reminds Andre Chase that he lost to Odyssey Jones in the first round on the NXT Breakout Tournament, Chase kicks him out of the class.

We see a vignette for Cameron Grimes, who is coming up next.

We see a message from Triple H via Twitter thanking the fans and family for their support since his recent heart attack.

Joe Gacy is in the ring. Gacy says that tonight, this ring is a safe space. He says NXT is home to "the smallest microaggressions to the biggest grudges," and says that he comes from a place of conflict resolution where he does not need to use male privilege to get what he wants. He says that he can be the man that we can show that there can be unity and tolerance for all and that peace can be attained in "this safe space."

Cameron Grimes beats Joe Gacy. After the match, Joe Gacy offers to shake Grimes' hand, then hugs him. Cameron Grimes is not sure what to make of this. (Non-wrestling media attention and negative Internet criticism eventually cause the video for this on WWE's YouTube and social media to be deleted.)

Next week: The honeymoon of Dexter Lumis and Indi Hartwell!

We hear from Von Wagner. Von Wagner says last week didn't go his way, and that he can either bitch and moan or put in the work. He says that he is an unconventional man with unconventional methods and that his journey in NXT has just begun.

Elektra Lopez beats Anna Scheer. (Anna Scheer is currently best known as AEW enhancement talent Tesha Price, who has also appeared under the name Tenilla Price as an enhancement talent in 2018.) After the match, Santos Escobar calls Elektra Lopez excellence and sophistication with the ability to silently command respect, and that Elektra Lopez completes Legado del Fantasma (Santos Escobar, Joaquin Wilde, Raul Mendoza). Elektra calls tonight's match just a taste of what she can do, and says she will unleash on B-Fab and NXT. She says B-Fab can keep talking, but says that is all that is, and if she doesn't like it, she can get out to the ring. B-Fab's music hits, but B-Fab attacks Elektra Lopez from behind while the rest of Hit Row (Isaiah "Swerve" Scott, Ashante "Thee" Adonis, Top Dolla) distracts the rest of Legado del Fantasma. Elektra and B-Fap have to be separated by their respective factions.

Backstage, Cora Jade meets with Trey Baxter and kisses him, telling him to chin up.

Backstage, Jessi Kamea, Franky Monet and Robert Stone run into Raquel Gonzalez, who says her and Franky's match for the NXT Championship is next week. Raquel leaves, then Lash Legend shows up and says that her new segment, "Lashing Out," debuts next week, and says her segment will be bigger than their match.

Odyssey Jones beats Cary Millman and Darren Chiapetta in a two-on-one handicap match. During the match, Andre Chase briefly distracts Odyssey Jones, but Jones quickly regains his momentum. After the match, Andre Chase tries to hit Odyssey Jones with a chair, but Jones grabs the chair with such force that the seat of the chair breaks off. (Cary Millman is independent wrestler Cameron Stewart, who also appeared on tonight's episode of AEW Dark in a tag team match against Brock Anderson and "Big Shotty" Lee Johnson. Because of this, he is the second person and the first male wrestler to be on Dark and NXT in the same night, and the very first wrestler to physically compete on both shows on the same night.)

Backstage, Grayson Waller is met by Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams. Carmelo warns Waller that if he wins the Cruiserweight Championship next week, he could lose it in the same night thanks to his contract. After Carmelo says he will leave his options open and Grayson Waller and the people he was talking to leave, Mandy Rose, Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne walk by.

We hear from Ikemen Jiro, who shows off his impressive wardrobe. He says that he is "style strong" and not "strong style," and that "Ikemen" means "handsome man."

Mandy Rose, Jacy Jayne and Gigi Dolin - now known as "Toxic Attraction" - head to the ring. Mandy says that when she came to NXT, she came here to be the fans' gift and golden goddess. She then realized the women's division needed a woman like her who the fans will never be with but love to look at. She then says it took a turn when her face was battered and beaten and the fans did nothing but ridicule her over and over again, and she realized that the fans treated her like they did Gigi and Jacy. She then says that the only difference is that Gigi and Jacy don't give a damn what the fans think, and that they showed her that behind the beauty, a beast is ready to be unleashed. Mandy Rose then says that she, Jacy and Gigi are what the future of the women's division looks like and that she is ready to take the division with Jacy and Gigi at her side. Gigi says that the face of her past fueled her aggression, and that she and Jacy needed guidance, as chaos without direction is a tragedy waiting to happen. She says that Mandy's guidance is what will guide them to the top. Jacy says they are not just pretty faces in the crowd, and that they will not wait for an opportunity like the rest of the women's division. She says that Toxic Attraction wants the NXT Women's Tag Team Championships, and that they have an ass-kicking waiting for Zoey Stark and Io Shirai, and that they do not want to be kept waiting.

Backstage, McKenzie Mitchell interviews Zoey Stark and Io Shirai. Shirai says she does not like Toxic Attraction, and if they want a tag team title match, they've got it. Suddenly, Indi Hartwell's best friend from the bachelorette party shows up, and says that not only are Toxic Attraction (Mandy Rose, Jacy Jayne, Gigi Dolin) not the only women in the women's division, but if she knows Indi well, she will want the NXT women's tag team titles back.

Tommaso Ciampa and Bron Breakker beat Pete Dunne and Ridge Holland after Kyle O'Reilly shows up and hits Ridge Holland with his own nunchaku. After the match, Bron Breakker hands the NXT Championship to Tommaso Ciampa, but not after holding it in his hands for a moment or two.
