Generation NXT - NXT recap for April 8, 2020

Io Shirai beats Tegan Nox, Chelsea Green, Mia Yim, Dakota Kai and Candice LeRae in a Ladder Match to become #1 contender for the NXT Women's Championship.

We hear from Finn Balor, who says that he and Walter share a lot of traits: they do a lot of things on their own times and have creative control over their own worlds. He says it is time for them to make their next moves, and says that the NXT UK Championship will soon be his.

We see another vignette for Killer Kross.

Indus Sher (Rinku and Saurav) beat Ever-Rise (Chase Parker and Matt Martel) in their NXT debut.

In footage from earlier today, Adam Cole tells Velveteen Dream that he got lucky beating Bobby Fish, and says that lightning will not strike twice. He says that Dream does not deserve a shot at the NXT Championship, and that he is a pretender. He tells Dream that if he continues pushing, he will shatter an experience and cut off the spotlight.

A tournament to crown an interim NXT Cruiserweight Champion will begin next week. (This is happening because Jordan Devlin is unable to defend the title due to the current situation regarding the COVID-19 pandemic; as a result, a new champion has to be crowned.)

In backstage footage from WrestleMania, Rhea Ripley says that Charlotte Flair was tougher than she expected.

Before the next match, Johnny Gargano heads to the NXT Performance Center. Candice LeRae gives Johnny something, then leaves. Gargano then heads to the ring at the same time as Ciampa, then Triple H says that he does not care what they do and that this must end here. Triple H then says that as soon as he leaves, the battle begins. He leaves the room, then the match begins.

Johnny Gargano beats Tommaso Ciampa in a cinematic no-disqualification, no rules war that takes place not only in the Performance Center, but also on a production truck. During the match, the referee is inadvertently knocked out by a knee from Ciampa, and Candice LeRae shows up and checks on both men, then kicks Gargano in the groin. Both men apologize to each other, then Ciampa is kicked in the groin from behind by LeRae. Gargano then reveals what LeRae gave him: a protective cup. Gargano then hits Ciampa with Fairytale Ending on the wooden boards of the ring exposed earlier in the match by Ciampa to win the match. (When LeRae and Gargano head back to their vehicle after the match, Killer Kross is seen in another nearby car with Scarlett Bordeaux.)

Here are the top ten moments from tonight's show!
