Generation NXT - NXT recap for September 11, 2019

The show begins with Rhea Ripley walking out of a black SUV and heading into Full Sail University.

Damian Priest beats Boa.

We hear from The Velveteen Dream, who says the NXT North American Championship will not be going up in flames. He tells Roderick Strong that the fire is catching, and if he burns, Strong will burn with him. Strong vs. Velveteen Dream for the NXT North American Championship is official for next week.

Johnny Gargano shows up. After the fans chant "Johnny Wrestling" for about two minutes, Gargano states that everyone has asked what the future holds for him. He says that last time he was in an NXT ring, he had fallen from the top of a steel cage and received a standing ovation. He then thanks the fans, saying that they built all this together and that he loves everything about NXT. He says that everyone in the locker room has poured their hearts out and created the best show pro wrestling has to offer, and that he has seen people come and go and make choices about their future. He then states he has made his choice, but before he can announce what that choice is, Shane Thorne shows up. Thorne says Gargano's speech is not necessary and that Gargano has to have the spotlight on him, and while Gargano is a pillar of NXT, NXT will be just fine without him. He then says that with the right person in the spotlight, it will be even better. Thorne then tells Gargano to take a bow and take a walk, but Gargano says he's not going anywhere and superkicks Thorne. Gargano then spells "NXT" with his finger, then holds up four fingers before making the shape of an L with his fingers, stating that he is "NXT for life."

Pete Dunne beats Angel Garza.

In footage from this past Monday, Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford) are in Central Park before Raw while Montez Ford reflects on their success thus far. Angelo Dawkins says it hasn't been the same since they lost the NXT tag team titles. They then announce that they will make a live return and take back the tag team titles next week. All of a sudden, they remember they are on a giant rock, then ask for directions to Madison Square Garden.

Cameron Grimes beats Raul Mendoza.

Backstage, Candice LeRae asks General Manager William Regal why Io Shirai is being rewarded for attacking people. Regal considers making the Triple Threat Match for a #1 contender for the NXT Women's Championship a four- or five-way with Rhea Ripley possibly involved in the match, and LeRae tells Regal that if she can get her hands on Io Shirai, he can place anyone he wants in that match.

We see a vignette for the returning Dakota Kai.

Next week in the first hour: Roderick Strong vs. Velveteen Dream for the NXT North American Championship! Next week in the second hour: Matt Riddle vs. Killian Dain in a Street Fight!

"The Queen of Spades" Shayna Baszler beats Rhea Ripley by disqualification after hitting Baszler with a steel chair introduced into the match by Jessamyn Duke, who has rushed into the ring with Marina Shafir in an attempt to help Baszler get the upper hand. After the match, Rhea Ripley sits in the chair and dares Baszler to come back into the ring for more.

The Undisputed Era talk about their prophecy of championship gold, and Roderick Strong says that when he wins the NXT North American Championship next week, it will be fulfilled.
