Layin' da SmackDown - SmackDown Live recap for August 27, 2019

Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviews Roman Reigns. Roman says that he has something to say to "The New" Daniel Bryan and Erick Rowan, but it is better for him to save it for the ring.

Kofi Kingston shows up to start tonight's show. He says that Randy Orton likes to slither around the ring and say he is stupid, then asks who got knocked out last week from out of nowhere. He says that they have taken it up a notch, but Orton has taken it personal by involving his family and bringing in The Revival to take down Big E and Xavier Woods, while all he has wanted is to prove that he is the WWE Champion. In the end, Orton was cowering up the ramp with fear in his eyes because he saw the look in his eyes that says that he does not play around when someone messes with his family. Now they have a match at Clash of Champions for the WWE Championship, and he has the chance to prove Orton wrong when he said that he was not ready then and is not ready now. Suddenly, Orton shows up on the TitanTron and says there is nothing he would like better than to show how stupid Kofi, but he will wait for Clash Of Champions. He then mentions that someone has delivered to him a mysterious letter. Orton reads the letter, which tells him to stop hurting Kofi, for Kofi is not stupid and a good man while Orton is being a mean man. He then reveals that Kofi's son Kai wrote the letter. Orton then mentions that he is staying in the exact same hotel as Kofi's family, and while he does not need to be Kai's pen pal, all he has to do is pay him a visit right now. Kofi leaves the ring and heads to the back. Backstage, Kofi finds Orton, and both men brawl. Officials and referees try to separate both men, but Orton DDT's Kofi on the floor. Officials then check on Kofi before calling for a trainer.

Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviews Big E, who says that Kofi Kingston will be ready to compete at Clash of Champions, but after tonight, he can't say the same for Randy Orton.

Ali beats Buddy Murphy to advance to the quarterfinals of the King of the Ring tournament.

Backstage, Ember Moon meets with Bayley and tells her that she will beat her next time, then tells Bayley that she is the face of the division and not Charlotte Flair, because Bayley made it so that people like her got opportunities. After Ember Moon says the best woman won at SummerSlam, Lacey Evans shows up and says the division needs to raise its standards and that while Charlotte is right about Bayley, she is the real face of the women's division. Bayley and Ember Moon laugh, and Lacey says that she will prove it in the ring tonight.

Before the next match, The Miz says that Sami Zayn is now Shinsuke Nakamura's spokesperson and that both of them tried to take their frustrations out on him last week, but questions how the two of them share the same philosophy. He then says Sami Zayn could not hack it as a Superstar and that he is clinging onto Nakamura as a result, and says that if Nakamura thinks he needs Sami as a partner and that attacking him is a ticket to success, he has a problem. Miz says he made the WWE Intercontinental Championship the most prestigious championship in WWE and took it to the main event, and that he can do it again. He challenges Nakamura for the Intercontinental Championship at Clash of Champions. Suddenly, Sami Zayn shows up. Sami laughs at Miz's comments about him and Nakamura, then says that he is "a liberator" and that he has liberated Nakamura and made him stronger, faster and better than he has felt in years. He then laughs at The Miz talking about the Intercontinental Championship like it is still his, and says Nakamura is an artist, a poet and the king of strong style while Miz is the "king of soft style." He says he does not expect Miz to understand him, but says it is time some respect was beaten into him. Miz dares Sami to get in the ring and do just that, but Sami says "that's not how it works around here." Miz proposes he leave the ring to beat respect into him. Sami tells Miz he is making a mistake as Miz approaches, and Miz is suddenly attacked from behind by Nakamura as Sami cheers Nakamura on. Nakamura then knees Miz's head into the LED board before getting him in the ring so that Sami can ready Miz for a Kinshasa.

Backstage, Elias is playing guitar when he is approached by Kevin Owens, who asks where Shane McMahon is. Elias says Shane is not here and that he wishes Owens was not, either. Owens thanks him and leaves.

Bayley beats Lacey Evans. Charlotte Flair shows up during the match to get a closer look.

Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviews "The New" Daniel Bryan and Rowan, who says that they have presented Roman Reigns with the person behind their attack, and that they are not leaving until they hear Roman apologize for accusing them of the attacks.

Randy Orton beats Big E after The Revival (Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder) attack Big E from the outside to allow Orton to hit the RKO. After the match, The Revival and RKO hit the combination Shatter Machine-RKO on Big E.

Backstage, Sarah Schreiber interviews Chad Gable. Gable says Shelton Benjamin can make all the jokes he wants, and that he should know better than to underestimate him. After he says that Shelton will be looking up at him after tonight, Shelton shows up and makes more height jokes before saying he is looking for Gable.

Elias is on the stage sitting on the King of the Ring throne. He says that soon, everyone will call him King Elias, and that nobody has worn the crown like he has. Elias calls himself a king everyone can believe in, and as he continues to speak, Kevin Owens sneaks up from behind and attacks him. When they get in the ring, Owens hits Elias with a Stunner. After Owens leaves, R-Truth shows up with a referee to try to take the WWE 24/7 Championship, but Drake Maverick shows up, yanks R-Truth out of the ring, and wins the title off Elias.

Chad Gable beats Shelton Benjamin to advance to the quarterfinals of the King of the Ring tournament.

Roman Reigns shows up. Before Roman can say anything, "The New" Daniel Bryan and Rowan show up on the TitanTron. Daniel Bryan demands that Roman say "I'm sorry," then Roman shows some video footage. In the footage, a man with a red beard in a hoodie is highlighted. Daniel Bryan slaps Rowan and tells him to get out, then grabs a microphone and says he hates liars, saying he trusted Rowan for almost a year and that he feels betrayed, for he does not know anything. He tells Roman that he has lied to him and betrayed him, and says somebody has told Rowan to do it and that it was not him. Before Daniel can say much else, Roman hits Daniel Bryan with a Spear.

Here are the top ten moments from tonight's show!
