Generation NXT - NXT recap for August 29, 2018

Cathy Kelley interviews General Manager William Regal, whose office is being outfitted with a camera crew. He is officially starting an investigation into who attacked Aleister Black.

Johnny Gargano shows up, hobbling to the ring with one crutch, to start tonight's show. Gargano says that the fans have always had his back, but he does not deserve that right now. Nevertheless, the fans chant "You deserve it," but Gargano says he doesn't even deserve "Johnny Gargano" because he broke a promise to the fans. He feels that he failed the fans by not winning the NXT Championship, and he does not know where he goes from here as he lost more than a match at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn 4; he lost himself. He says that he is not himself and has broken a lot of promises to the fans, and he does not what is left after everything he has been through. Gargano then says that he became Tommaso Ciampa, and that Ciampa is in his head and he cannot get him out. He feels he does not know what the fans want, but he knows he has to be better for the fans, his wife Candice LeRae and everyone else, but he does not know how to do it. Suddenly, General Manager William Regal shows up. Regal says that before Ciampa burns the whole place down, he must ask if Gargano attacked Aleister Black. Gargano says Regal has known him for a very long time, and asks Regal to ask him. Regal says his opinion does not matter and asks again. Gargano tells Regal to look into his eyes, and he will know the answer. Suddenly, Velveteen Dream shows up. Dream says he is not in the mood and is both sick and disgusted having to listen to Johnny Gargano "sing the same old song." He says this is heartbreaking, but this should not be about him or Tommaso Ciampa, who is not even in the building. He says that tonight should be about the experience that stole Brooklyn, New York, had the world buzzing and became a trending topic. In other words, it should be about him. He says that tonight should be about the experience that stole Brooklyn, New York, had the world buzzing and became a trending topic. In other words, it should be about him. He goes on to call Gargano "Johnny Failure," and says the doctor gave him a crutch to keep the weight off his leg. He throws the crutch at The Dream, then Regal tells Gargano to go to the back and The Dream to go to his office. He says that if they want a fight, they will get one next week.

In General Manager William Regal's office, Velveteen Dreams finishes an interview concerning Aleister Black. Next to come in is The Forgotten Sons (Wesley Blake, Steve Cutler, Jaxson Ryker), who say that they parked outside to get to his office and that they had nothing to do with the attack on Aleister. They also came looking for Regal, who are looking for an opportunity. Regal gives them a tag team match next week.

It is revealed that Ethan Carter III has been attacked, and Lars Sullivan is noticed leaving the scene behind the referees that check on EC3.

General Manager William Regal interviews Nikki Cross, who is more inclined to spin around in the chair and throw things. She also pretends to talk on the phone and laughs to herself. Bianca Belair barges in and demands a title shot now that she is medically cleared. Nikki Cross then says she wants to play with Bianca Belair. Bianca tells Regal to let her know about his decision when she is done with Nikki.

Before the next match, Lars Sullivan admits he took out Ethan Carter III, because when his name comes out of somebody's mouth, he will rip them limb from limb. As for Raul Mendoza, he is standing in "Lars Sullivan territory." Lars Sullivan then slides into the ring, and with the bell never ringing, Lars goes to town on Raul Mendoza, eventually tossing him up and hitting him with a powerslam before hitting the Freak Accident.

We hear from Tommaso Ciampa, who says that when he went away over a year ago, he made a promise to become the most dangerous person NXT had ever seen when he came back, and he has surpassed all expectations. Not only did he end the Johnny Gargano fairy tale, he also won the NXT Championship. Ciampa says he is exactly what he says he is: the greatest sports entertainer of all time, and the NXT title is his proof. He says it takes a special kind of man to claw his way to the top, but it takes a different man entirely to build a nest there and call it home, and he says that he is that man. Ciampa says he is the main event, that NXT is his home and that this is just the beginning. He says that nobody will survive what is coming next.

Keith Lee beats Luke Menzies.

In two weeks: Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch return!

Next week: Kairi Sane live! Johnny Gargano vs. Velveteen Dream!

The Unidsputed Era (Roderick Strong and Kyle O'Reilly) beat Ricochet and Pete Dunne after Ricochet inadvertently hits Dunne with a tope suicida. Before the match, Kyle O'Reilly is scheduled to be part of the match, but Adam Cole accompanies him and Strong to the ring and tells O'Reilly to sit this one out, as he wants a piece of Ricochet. After the match, Strong brings Ricochet back into the ring so he, Cole and O'Reilly can attack him further. All of a sudden, War Raiders show up and run them out of the ring to end the show.
