Generation NXT - NXT recap for January 16, 2024

Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams beat Malik Blade and Edris Enofe to advance in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.

Backstage, Kelly Kincaid interviews Fallon Henley. Fallon says she had fun last week, but it is now down to brass tacks and she has to go through nineteen other women for a shot at the NXT women's title. She says it is time to put on the work boots and reach the final four.

We see a video package of the end of Dragon Lee's NXT North American Championship reign.

In backstage footage from earlier today, Elektra Lopez and Lola Vice talk about their battle royal plans when they are suddenly met by Tatum Paxley, who says she will win the battle royal so that Lyra Valkyria does not have to defend her title.

Oba Femi heads to the ring. Oba Femi says it was set in stone that he would be omnipotent and the embodiment of a war leader, and that he was tested as a young Nigerian prince and dominated his opposition. He says that in NXT, the goal is still the same, and now he is North American Champion and has divine right to rule over the fans and crush everyone who stands in his way to dust. Dragon Lee suddenly shows up. He says he cannot be mad after last week, for Oba Femi was hungry, and says that nobody has made an impact in NXT much like Oba Femi. He says the North American title represents opportunity and that he hopes that Oba Femi will continue the open challenge and hopes to be Oba Femi's first opponent tonight. Oba Femi refuses, saying the open challenges are now closed, and Dragon Lee demands a rematch at Vengeance Day. Oba Femi says he does not get to decide any more, although he may consider it.

In backstage footage from earlier today, Eddy Thorpe is met by Trey Bearhill, who thanks Eddy for representing their culture. Dijak suddenly intervenes, and when Trey steps up to Dijak, Dijak mentions putting Thorpe on the shelf and says he might do it to Trey next.

Backstage, Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams talk about their win tonight and their rise to the Dusty Cup finals when Ilja Dragunov shows up, apologizes to Trick Williams, then says their title match will be at Vengeance Day. Carmelo reminds Trick afterwards that the Dusty Cup finals will also be at Vengeance Day.

Lyra Valkyria and Tatum Paxley beat Elektra Lopez and Lola Vice when Paxley folls onto Lola and inadvertently gets the win.

Backstage in the women's locker room, everyone gets ready for the women's battle royal as Arianna Grace declares that she will win. As she speaks, everyone gradually leaves the room.

Ridge Holland beats Joe Coffey. After the match, Mark Coffey and Wolfgang attack Ridge Holland, and Joe Coffey joins in. Gallus (Joe, Mark, Wolfgang) keeps looking towards the entrance as the three of them lay Ridge out.

In video footage from "NXT Anonymous", Thea Hail, Jacy Jayne have succeeded in raising some money. After everyone else leaves, Jacy Jayne and a student named Jazmin head out to get some drinks.

Backstage, Kelani Jordan says she is entering tonight's women's battle royal with a chip on her shoulder and that she is breaking through in 2024, and that patience is not going to unlock the doors she is trying to open. She is then met by Brinley Reece, who is just as hyped for the match and thinks highly of Kelani's chances as she does her own.

Backstage, Kelly Kincaid interviews Baron Corbin when Bron Breakker shows up. Both men insist that they are one who led the team of victory while carrying the other, then Breakker says they will punch their ticket to the Dusty Cup finals. Baron Corbin is not exactly on board with their team name being "The Wolf Dogs" or Bron Breakker thinking about the team in the shower. "Wild Boars" does not go much further, either.

The Latino World Order (Joaquin Wilde and Cruz del Toro) beat Chase University (Duke Hudson and Riley Osborne) to advance in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.

Backstage, Arianna Rizzo is met by Tony D'Angelo and Channing "Stacks" Lorenzo. Arianna is nervous due to her debuting in tonight's women's battle royal. Stacks says "The Rizz always takes care of biz," and D'Angelo reminds her of how she always knocks people when they deserved it and that everyone in the women's battle royal deserve it.

In backstage footage from last week, Mr. Stone and Von Wagner are met by Noam Dar and Oro Mensah. Wagner wants a shot at the Heritage Cup as he throws a cup in the Cup, then pretends to not know how the rules work to get on Noam's nerves.

Joe Gacy guests on commentary for the next match.

Dijak beats Trey Bearhill despite a headbutt to Dijak by Joe Gacy. After the match, Joe Gacy attacks and brawls with Dijak, and the brawl makes its way to the back. After this, Trey Bearhill is attacked from behind by Lexis King.

Backstage, Josh Briggs is met by JBL. Briggs asks JBL for advice, and JBL tells Briggs that he has all the talent in the world but needs to figure out and show who he really is just like he did years ago.

We hear from No Quarter Catch Crew (Drew Gulak, Charlie Dempsey, Damon Kemp, Myles Borne), who go back to basics in conditioning and toughness. The four of them agree that they will show no pity, no mercy and no quarter.

Backstage, Trick Williams speaks with Carmelo Hayes, saying they will finish what they started with the Dusty Cup before he wins the NXT Championship in the main event at Vengeance Day. Carmelo says they should put the NXT Championship to the side and focus on the Dusty Cup, but Trick likes the idea of the two of them being Triple Crown Champions.

It is announced that Cora Jade has suffered a torn ACL during a match with Wren Sinclair (formerly known as Madi Wrenkowski) in a live show at Dade City, Florida and will be out for several months. Wren Sinclair is in the next match.

Roxanne Perez last beats Kelani Jordan, Kiana James and Fallon Henley in a battle royal turned Fatal 4-Way to become #1 contender for the NXT Women's Championship. During the match, Elektra Lopez and Lola Vice turn on each other and brawl their way to the back after Lola eliminates Elektra only to be quickly eliminated in turn. After the match, Lyra Valkyria shows up to stare down Roxanne from outside of the ring.

Here are the top ten moments from tonight's show!
