Generation NXT - NXT recap for June 17, 2020

Imperium (Fabian Aichner and Marcel Barthel) retains the NXT Tag Team Championships against Breezango (Tyler Breeze and Fandango). During the match, Indus Sher (Rinku and Saurav) and Malcolm Bivens show up, but they are attacked by Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch. Barthel sends Breeze into all four teams, and Aichner hits Fandango with a DDT in the confusion so that Imperium can retain.

Tom Phillips interviews Velveteen Dream. Dexter Loomis plants a picture of himself with Velveteen Dream as NXT Tag Team Champions, but Dream calls this "a misunderstanding" and says he is a solo act.

Cameron Grimes is briefly seen behind Damian Priest's black sports car in footage from earlier today of Priest walking towards the arena.

Damian Priest beats Killian Dain.

We see a video package for Santos Escobar, who says that he will re-write the history of lucha libre in his own words, starting tonight.

In footage from during the break, Killian Dain scares Robert Stone - who is now drinking out of a bottle in a paper bag - by smacking the plexiglass with his fist, knocking Stone to the floor.

Before the next match, Aliyah checks on Robert Stone and brings him to ringside.

Aliyah beats Xia Li with a stack-up after a drunk Robert Stone gets on the apron and spews liquid towards Xia Li. After the match, Robert Stone falls off the ring apron, and Aliyah has to help him to the back.

We see Timothy Thatcher teaching a few students the Fujiwara Arm Bar and the double wrist lock.

In footage from earlier today, Adam Cole and Bobby Fish do some "in-house therapy" with Roderick Strong. Kyle O'Reilly plays the doctor, and Strong talks about what Dexter Lumis did to him and Fish. After some ink blot tests that remind Strong of Lumis and the trunk of the car Lumis stuffed him in, Doctor O'Reilly says that Strong must face "the trunk." Strong ends up running away.

Backstage, Mackenzie Mitchell interviews Adam Cole. As Cole says that he will always be NXT Champion, Keith Lee shows up and tells him that his time as champion is limited and that he will take the title from him, not Karrion Kross. Cole walks away after Lee takes the hourglass nearby and throws it to the ground, smashing it to pieces.

Adam Cole shows up. Cole says he has been NXT Champion for 381 days, and that he has not taken one of those days for granted because he is one of the best in the business. He says many have tried to take him down and failed, and says that one must earn a title shot against him. He says that Karrion Kross has a long way to go before he steps into the ring with him following what happened last week, then tells Keith Lee that he has his eye on the North American title much like Lee has his eye on the NXT title. Cole entertains the idea of holding the North American title for just as long and being a double champion, then Keith Lee shows up. All of a sudden, Johnny Gargano shows up shortly after Keith Lee does. Gargano says he doesn't care about moments anymore; he only cares about results, and he pinned Keith Lee last week. He says he is coming after the North American Championship, then asks why he should stop there and says it is time for the title reign he deserves. Gargano wants to make history by winning the NXT title while Candice LeRae wins the Women's title, making them the first married champions. Keith Lee then makes light of what happened last week with LeRae, then Finn Balor shows up. As Finn Balor says he has never held the North American title, Gargano makes light of his accomplishments before Finn Balor says he cuts to the front of lines before telling Keith Lee he will take his title before doing the same to Adam Cole. As Balor calls Cole a "transitional champion," Cole says Balor shows up, becomes king for a little while, then he passes him by. As Balor shows Cole where he will punch him, General Manager William Regal shows up on the TitanTron. Regal says that next week, Keith Lee will defend the North American title against Gargano and Balor in a Triple Threat Match, while Cole will defend the NXT Championship against the winner on July 8th.

Backstage, Mackenzie Mitchell interviews Keith Lee, but Lee is soon confronted by Candice LeRae. Lee points ahead as if to warn LeRae that someone is behind here, and it is revealed that Mia Yim is behind LeRae. Mia Yim and Candice LeRae brawl, and referees have to break it up.

Dakota Kai beats Kayden Carter by submission after Raquel Gonzales throws Kacy Catanzaro into the ring apron.

We see black-and-white backstage footage of Karrion Kross and Scarlett looking at the destroyed hourglass.

We see a vignette for Mercedes Martinez, who is coming soon.

Bronson Reed quickly beats Leon Ruff. After the match, Bronson Reed says he has not forgotten what Karrion Kross did to him, and he calls him out for next week. He then helps Leon Ruff to the back.

In footage from moments ago, Damien Priest finds the tires on his black sports car slashed, then Cameron Grimes drives up, makes fun of Priest and speeds away.

Santos Escobar, Joaquin Wilde and Raul Mendoza show up. Escobar says he is known as the best lucha libre artist ever, but when you wear a mask, that is all the world sees. He says that was him for 20 years, but when he made it to NXT, he knew the book of El Hijo del Fantasma would come to an end. Escobar says his father knew he would be a leader, not a luchador, and says he will make Wilde and Mendoza leaders as well. After saying he is a leader of leaders and that he will leave a legacy, Drake Maverick shows up and confronts the three of them, saying he has more guts than brains. It is not long before he is overpowered, however, and while Maverick fights back behind the barricade, Escobar smacks him in the back with a monitor before driving him through a table with the Phantom Driver.

In footage from during the break, Drake Maverick is placed into an ambulance by medical personnel.

Next week: Bronson Reed vs. Karrion Kross! Damien Priest vs. Cameron Grimes! Finn Balor vs. Johnny Gargano vs. Keith Lee for the NXT North American Championship!

Bayley and Sasha Banks retain the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship after Bayley brings a chair into the ring, distracting the referee as Tegan Nox takes it away from her so Bayley can turn Shotzi Blackheart - currently having the Cattle Mutilation locked in on Sasha - over so that Sasha Banks can make Shotzi tap out with the Banks Statement. After the match, Io Shirai shows up and attacks Bayley and Sasha before declaring she is the real champion in NXT.
