Raw Deal - Raw recap for June 1, 2020

Seth Rollins, Murphy and Austin Theory show up to start tonight's show. Theory and Murphy sit to the side as Rollins says there a lot of things going on tonight. He says that tonight, he will have a match with Aleister Black, whom he says is confused when it comes to Rey Mysterio and has left him no choice but to enlighten him. Rollins says that Rey will be on the show later tonight to speak to everyone, and says that while it will be hard for Rey, he will not be able to bring himself to announce his own retirement. Therefore, he has taken it upon himself to do it for him, as Rey is too humble and modest to come out to the ring and call himself a legend. He says it is up to him to appreciate Rey, for he was chosen as a sacrifice for the greater good of Raw. Rollins says this will be a moment in time that will live forever, for Rey was chosen as a sacrifice, and if that is not legendary, he does not know what is. He says that Rey is "the greatest luchador who has ever lived" who transcended languages and borders and is a humble and generous man who presented himself to him and allowed himself to be sacrificed so he can lead Raw into the future. Rollins calls it an honor to appreciate Rey properly; therefore, he has prepared a video package of "the greatness that is Rey Mysterio." After a video package that ends with what Rollins did to Rey at the steel steps, Rollins calls Rey "a first-ballot Hall of Famer" and tells Rey that when his time comes, it will be his honor to personally induct him into the WWE Hall of Fame. Suddenly, Aleister Black runs into the ring and attacks Seth Rollins, forcing him to retreat.

Aleister Black beats Seth Rollins. During the match, Humberto Carrillo rushes to ringside with a steel chair to make the save for Aleister Black when Rollins instructs Murphy and Austin Theory to attack Aleister at ringside while keeping referee John Cone occupied. Later in the match, Murphy and Theory get on the apron, but Carrillo fights them both off at ringside. Rollins tries to take advantage of the situation, but Aleister rolls Rollins up for the win. After the match, Murphy and Theory attack Aleister, and Carrillo is overwhelmed when Rollins gets involved. Murphy and Theory then hold Aleister down while Rollins hits Carrillo with The Stomp, then Rollins does the same to Aleister.

Raw Talk will air on the new free version of the WWE Network after Raw goes off the air.

Backstage, Charly Caruso interviews Zelina Vega and Angel Garza. Zelina tries to speak, but Garza says he has got and tells Charly that all's fair in love and war, and in both competition and seduction, one must be one step ahead. Zelina says that she and Garza think Garza's win last week was triumphant, as he saw what he wanted and took it. Garza says that if anyone is upset about it, then they have never wanted something as badly as he does. Garza hands Charly a rose and leaves, then Zelina takes it from her and rips it up.

We hear from "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels, who predicts that Edge will beat Randy Orton at Backlash.

Backstage, Lana talks with MVP, who tells Lana that he has actual work to do and that he neither the time or the desire to be involved in any of her drama. Lana calls MVP a leech who is using Bobby Lashley to revive his "washed-up" career. MVP says "If that were true...wouldn't that make two of us?" Lana slaps MVP in the face and leaves, but MVP is unfazed.

Kayla Braxton interviews Apollo Crews in the ring. Crews says that the first week of being WWE United States Championship has been surreal to him, and says that there is a long list of Superstars that he wishes to face. Tonight, he will defend the championship against someone deserving: Kevin Owens. Owens shows up and congratulates Apollo on winning the title and appreciates the championship opportunity, but feels that this match is coming out of pity. Apollo says it is all about respect, but Owens says he feels bad about it. Owens then says he feels bad about Apollo Crews' first title reign coming to a very short end when the match is over.

Kevin Owens vs. Apollo Crews for the WWE United States Championship ends with Andrade and Angel Garza attacking both competitors.

Kevin Owens and Apollo Crews beat Andrade and Angel Garza.

Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviews Asuka. Asuka says she will take Nia Jax at Backlash, and that she is always better and that the challenge stays the same. She also says that she never bows down to anyone.

In footage from earlier today, The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford) and The Viking Raiders (Ivar and Erik) meet for a game of bowling. Right out of the gate, The Viking Raiders are nailing strikes while The Street Profits are nailing gutterballs. Meanwhile, Montez Ford drops the ball on Angelo Dawkin's foot, Ivar finds a turkey leg in the ball return, and Ivar gets nearly everyone kicked out after raiding the snack bar. After five frames, the lights go out and smoke is everywhere for "Cosmic Bowling." When that happens, The Street Profits suddenly up their game and they begin leading by nine points. On the last frame, Erik launches Ivar into the pins for a strike, and The Viking Raiders win by one point.

Backstage, The IIconics (Billie Kay and Peyton Royce) argue with Nikki Cross and Alexa Bliss, and both teams have to be kept from attacking each other before they get in the ring.

Billie Kay beats Nikki Cross.

Backstage, Charly Caruso interviews Drew McIntyre, who says he does not back down from any challenge, and if MVP wants to get back in the ring with him, that is fine with him. He says that he has a Claymore for Bobby Lashley if he gets in the ring, and if anyone off the street wants to face him in the ring, he will line them up and knock them down.

We hear from Rey Mysterio, who says he has no idea when he will be able to return to the ring. He says that if an infection sets in, it could be the end of his career. He says he has no idea if he will be retiring soon or not, and he could either be cleared to compete in a few weeks or never cleared for action in WWE again; regardless, he has thought about retirement. He says that Seth Rollins carries a lot of negativity and that negativity can be a burden to any man. He says that Rollins made the decision to blind him, then Dominik shows up and says Rollins is not a human being, much less a messiah. He says someone from the family needs to do something about it, and that everything Rollins has said is "a bunch of BS." Rey takes the time to thank everyone for reaching out, as it means a lot to him and his family. Rey then curses Rollins for everything he put his family through as he injured his eye and made him suffer, and while he is a man of forgiveness, he will never forgive Rollins for his actions. Rey leaves, then Dominik says that Rollins is a man of scripture, and then says "An eye for an eye."

Before the next match, Nia Jax says she did not start that, as Kairi Sane and Asuka kept attacking her and that they are "smoke are mirrors." She says that Asuka was gifted the WWE Raw Women's Championship "because hormones," and mocks Becky Lynch for giving her the title. She says that she is the real victim here and that she will expose Asuka as "the lying, backstabbing charlatan that she really is."

In footage from earlier today, Ron Gronkowski is about to film a TikTok video when the guy holding his smartphone takes off his jacket to reveal a referee's shirt underneath. The man flipping the mulch is R-Truth, who pins Gronk to win the WWE 24/7 Championship.

Nia Jax beats Kairi Sane. After the match, Asuka shows up and confronts Nia Jax, and Nia backs out of the ring.

Backstage, we hear from Randy Orton, who says he has been catching up on the WWE Network in the last few months, and he has noticed that every Superstar thinks that "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair is the greatest to ever do it. He agrees. When he tuned in to last week's show, however, he noticed that Flair said he is the greatest to ever lace up a pair of boots, much like Edge. He then questions Edge's statement from two weeks ago that he has no passion for the business. He then says that Edge is right and that Edge cannot stand the fact that he "half-assed it" and accomplished more than anybody else ever while being himself while Edge had to pretend to be his heroes. Orton says that he will prove that he is better than Edge at Backlash, and that he will rewrite Edge's storybook ending.

Before the next match, Charlotte Flair says that Io Shirai and Rhea Ripley are the two Superstars that everyone in the Performance Center strives to be like, and while she wants everyone to be the next top star, it is to make them bow down. She says that Asuka has a history of bowing down to her, and while Asuka has accomplished a lot, she wants to be like her. Suddenly, Asuka shows up, starting the match.

Charlotte Flair vs. Asuka ends with Nia Jax mocking Asuka before hitting her with a running clothesline on the entrance ramp.

Backstage, Charly Caruso interviews Lana. Lana teases heading to the ring for MVP's match against Drew McIntyre.
