Layin' da SmackDown - SmackDown recap for January 10, 2020

It's time for Miz TV. The Miz says that since last week, people have said he has changed, then says he had a bad day and that everyone had a bad day. He says that Kofi Kingston wanted him to smile, but he didn't want to smile; he wanted to punch a face and that is what he did. He apologizes to Kofi Kingston, then says he has been through a lot in the past month, including what has gone down with him and "The Fiend" Bray Wyatt. He says he had an opportunity to face him for the WWE Universal Championship but failed to take it. He then says the high point of the month was the return of a man who he considers a friend and a brother: John Morrison. Morrison walks down a WWE ramp for the first time since 2012 and enters the ring. The fans enthusiastically chant "Welcome back!," and Miz declares Morrison's return a truly awesome event before showing a sizzle reel of John Morrison's WWE career. Morrison says it feels good to be back, and that when he saw what The Miz was going through and talked with him about it, there was nothing more important than being there for one of his best friends. At SmackDown, they talked again, and he says that he is disappointed with the fans after how they treated The Miz, as he has worked harder than anyone else on the roster to get to where he is now. He says Miz does what he does for the fans. After asking what people would chant if certain people in the front row were in the ring, The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Big E) show up. Kofi asks Miz who he is trying to fool by saying that the fans turned their backs on them, and Big E says that they have not bought his apology, saying he could not get cast as the back of a human centipede. Kofi says he would have respected Miz more if he stopped at "I had a bad day," saying that would have been respectable. Miz tells Kofi he respected Kofi's six-month WWE Championship reign as well as the six seconds it took him to lose it. He also respects that Kofi continued to smile and not go back for the WWE Championship that he lost. Kofi says it was eight seconds, not six, and that it is clear that Miz is changing from "Cool Miz" to "Obnoxious, Annoying Miz." Kofi then says that the fans are 100% right when they say he sucks, which leads to the fans chanting "You Suck!" at Miz.

John Morrison and Big E guest on commentary for the next match; they end up on opposite corners at ringside after The Miz knocks Kofi Kingston into Big E.

The Miz beats Kofi Kingston after John Morrison takes out Big E with a parkour flip for getting in The Miz's face at ringside.

It's time for Firefly Fun House. Bray Wyatt says that love is so special, but not everyone is worthy. He says that whatever the opposite of love is is what The Fiend feels about Daniel Bryan. Bray says that Daniel has been naughty and that he is in a heap of trouble at Royal Rumble, as The Fiend wanted him to remember before wanting to change him. Since Daniel wants the WWE Universal Championship, The Fiend now wants to hurt Daniel.

Backstage, Sonya Deville says that a great new year will start with her in Mandy Rose's corner for tonight's match-up. Mandy says she has something to take care before meeting her in the ring.

Elias is in the ring. He sings a song called "The Road to the Rumble," where he states that he will come out in the men's Royal Rumble match while making jabs at Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns, and says that when he wins the WWE Championship, he will show Lesnar the door.

Backstage, Tucker meets with Otis, telling him to let Mandy Rose go as they prepare for the men's Royal Rumble match. Mandy Rose shows up and apologizes for what happened as of late, then hands him an apology cake.

Mandy Rose beats Alexa Bliss after Tucker and Otis show up with Mandy's apology cake, distracting Alexa so that Mandy can win with a schoolkid pin.

Before the next match, Sasha's entrance is played, but Sasha is nowhere to be seen. All of a sudden, Bayley shows up on the TitanTron and states that Sasha is not here tonight, as she is in Los Angeles finishing her new album. After Bayley says she is here because she is contractually obligated to, Lacey says she is not surprised, and that unlike Sasha, she is ready to fight any time, anywhere. She then says that since Sasha is a nasty and is not here, and since Bayley is acting like a fighting champion, she can face Bayley for her title right here, right now. Bayley says she does not have to listen to her, and Lacey heads to the back. Backstage, Lacey is assaulted from behind by Bayley, who tells Lacey to put on her mom jeans and go home. Lacey strikes back, and Bayley ducks the Woman's Right and runs away.

Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviews Daniel Bryan. Daniel says The Fiend must want a lot of things, saying he remembers his time with The Wyatt Family, then says that The Fiend doesn't like that he has outsmarted him and changed for the better. He also says that The Fiend doesn't like that he cannot break him when it comes to hurting, and that he will prove that The Fiend can be hurt and beaten for the WWE Universal Championship. Ramblin' Rabbit then appears on the nearby television screen, saying he knows the secret to beating The Fiend, then Bray Wyatt grabs Ramblin' Rabbit by the face and says that snitches get stitches.

Braun Strowman beats Shinsuke Nakamura after Sami Zayn and Cesaro's attempt at introducing the Intercontinental Championship into the match as a weapon fails. After the match, Strowman lifts up the Intercontinental Championship, then Sami Zayn yanks it away from him.

We hear from Sheamus, who says that Shorty G has been saying a lot of things, and that he didn't say anything last week after he showed him how much SmackDown is about to change when he Brogue Kicked him. He says that Shorty G represents the ills of SmackDown and that being small is something to be exterminated, not embraced. Sheamus then says that he proved size does matter, and that since he has returned, he is ready to embrace chaos.

Backstage, Daniel Bryan finds a red gift box. Inside the box is the remains of Ramblin' Rabbit.

Roman Reigns shows up. Roman says that last year was a blessed year, even if it had a rough end, as he has been surrounded, jump and even embarrassed by King Corbin's crew. He has always had backup throughout his career, but this time, he didn't need the help of friends. Instead, he needed the help of family, and his family helped him out in a major way last week. He says that 2020 is his year, and that he will win the men's Royal Rumble match and main event WrestleMania for a fifth time with the ones who have been there since day one: The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso). The Usos show up, and state that it is great to be back on the blue brand. They admit the past five months away from the ring were rough, and that watching Roman Reigns defend himself against King Corbin. They consider Baron Corbin's actions with the dog food on Roman not only disrespectful to Roman, but to them as well. Suddenly, King Corbin and Dolph Ziggler show up. Corbin says that Roman is scared to face him one-on-one and that he is throwing his family under the bus to enter the men's Royal Rumble match, and says that he will be the one to win the men's Royal Rumble. Roman says he would love nothing more than to kick his ass twice in one night, and proposes they go one-on-one at Royal Rumble before he sends him over the top rope, wins the Rumble and shows him who the man is. Corbin accepts his challenge, then says Roman will have no family when he and Ziggler handle his "two little bitches." The Usos answer with stereo tope suicidas to Corbin and Ziggler.

Next week: Big E vs. John Morrison in Morrison's first WWE match in over eight years!

King Corbin and Dolph Ziggler beat The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso) by disqualification after Roman Reigns hits King Corbin with a Spear at ringside. During the match, The Revival (Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder) show up and distract The Usos; Roman Reigns shows up immediately afterwards and decimates them with Superman Punches. After the match, Robert Roode shows up and attacks Roman before hitting him with the Glorious DDT. Corbin, Roode and Ziggler then lay waste to The Usos. They then put Roman through the announce table to end the show.

Here are the top ten moments from tonight's show!
