Nitro-Glycerin - Monday Nitro recap for August 4, 1997

Tonight's episode is three hours long as it is the 100th episode of Nitro. (When the episode is uploaded to the WWE Network years later, however, it is labeled as the 99th Episode.)

We see a performance from The Nitro Girls.

Eric Bischoff and "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan show up. Bischoff says Lex Luger is dumb as a brick, and Hogan says that when you mess with him, you mess with the entire nWo and you had better be ready to pay dues. Hogan then says he's got the whole world watching Road Wild, and that he will slaughter Luger like a lamb in Sturgis, South Dakota. Hogan isn't too thrilled with the fact that the WCW World Heavyweight Championship is on the line tonight, and he tells Luger that he will pay for this mistake as he drags him through the mud to prove that he is the god that made professional wrestling what it is today. After he wipes the mat with Luger, the title will stay in the family, and the #1 contender at Road Wild will be none other than Scott Hall.

Curt Hennig beats Mortis.

We see a video package summarizing what has happened with Sting in the last year.

Jeff Jarrett and Dean Malenko beat Chavo Guerrero, Jr. and Hector Guerrero with a Texas Cloverleaf to Hector Guerrero.

"Mean" Gene Okerlund interviews Raven at ringside. Stevie Richards shows up with paperwork, which happens to be another contract that he has worked on in the past two weeks at WCW Headuqarters. Richards wants Raven to follow him in the trail he paved into WCW, and hands him the contract and a pen. Raven skims through the contract, then spits in Stevie's face and punches him. He tries to punch him again, but Stevie blocks it. Raven tells Stevie he will not abuse him anymore, and walks away.

The Giant quickly beats Lenny Lane, Scott D'Amore and Joey Maggs in a 3-on-1 handicap match. After the match, "Macho Man" Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth show up, saying a giant out of control is good for him because that means he will be in control at Road Wild. He tells The Giant to stay in the ring as he doesn't want any of this, but The Giant leaves the ring and marches towards Savage.

This Saturday on WCW Saturday Night: Curt Hennig! Diamond Dallas Page! Alex Wright! "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair!

We see a video package of Lex Luger.

Public Enemy (Johnny Grunge and "Flyboy" Rocco Rock) beat High Voltage (Rage and Kaos) after Rocco Rock accidentally puts himself through a table after Kaos saves Rage from going through it and a double-team attempt from High Voltage backfires.

We see another performance from The Nitro Girls...and Alex Wright joins in. "Mean" Gene Okerlund then interviews Wright, who speaks in German before saying that he speaks first to the people that matter before he speaks to the people he could care less about. He tells Chris Jericho that if he wants to be embarrassed again like he was last week, he'll do it at Road Wild. He then calls himself the world's greatest wrestler. He then calls the Americans stupid.

Alex Wright beats Scotty Riggs with a top rope drop kick - one of Jericho's signature moves.

Pyrotechnics signal the start of the second hour.

"Mean" Gene Okerlund interviews Lex Luger. Luger says he's been focusing on one thing and one thing only: the match at Road Wild. However, sometimes opportunity knocks when you least expect it, and it has knocked tonight. He calls this a defining moment from himself, WCW and the nWo tonight. He has heard what Hogan said at the top of the show, but they will soon get in the ring, and he will give the devil his due by saying he made professional wrestling what it is today, but he will take the WCW World Heavyweight Championship from him tonight.

Syxx beats "The Crippler" Chris Benoit by disqualification after Jeff Jarrett shows up and attacks Benoit. Steve "Mongo" McMichael rushes in and makes the save for Benoit, then Dean Malenko runs in and attacks Benoit. Mongo and Benoit end up standing tall in the ring.

We see another performance from The Nitro Girls.

Booker T quickly beats Vincent after a clothesline to Vincent from Stevie Ray, then Booker and Stevie Ray beat up Vincent again before tossing him out of the ring.

"Mean" Gene Okerlund interviews Diamond Dallas Page. DDP says that most of his life, people thought he was conceited, but after what's recently happened, he's not conceited, he's convinced. He knows where to go and how to get there, and he's given 120% in the ring. He says that there is another guy who has 120% in the ring that he has respected as a wrestler than he'd ever believe. He says he's never had a personal issue with Flair, as they both hate "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan and "Macho Man" Randy Savage, but he's recently courted Curt Hennig, and he hates Curt Hennig. Now that he believes Flair is making him a Horseman, he won't let Hennig feed him to Flair to keep him from making it to Road Wild. He then tells Flair that Flair may have his respect, but he has his number.

Wrath beats The Barbarian. Meng arrives after the match and confronts Wrath. They stare down, but James Vandenberg tells Wrath "not now."

"Mean" Gene Okerlund interviews The Steiner Brothers (Rick and Scott Steiner) in the ring. They suddenly introduce Ted DiBiase, who hasn't been seen in months. Rick tells Okerlund "We got him!" DiBiase announces that he has been on the inside looking out, and now he's on the outside looking in. He said that he grew up in the business and vowed to uphold his dad's name when his father died, but he lost his way after he became The Million Dollar Man. He says that a man pays the price for the decision of his choices, and that he has made bad choices as of late. He doesn't expect The Steiners to accept him on blind faith, and at Road Wild, he promises to help tear down what he built in the New World Order by taking the tag team titles away from The Outsiders (Kevin Nash and Scott Hall). Suddenly, The Outsiders show up. They know The Steiners are good, but they're better and the tag titles prove it. Kevin Nash tells DiBiase that when they said they were nWo for life, they meant it, and DiBiase didn't seem to understand. He calls him a dead man for joining the Steiners, but DiBiase reminds them he knows them more than anyone else. Nash says they only have DiBiase because they need somebody to read the menus while they're out there on the road. DiBiase promises he will lead The Steiners to victory at Road Wild and bring in new WCW World Tag Team Champions.

We see another performance from The Nitro Girls.

Lee Marshall calls from Denver, Colorado - the site of next week's Nitro - for the 1-800-COLLECT Road Report.

Konnan beats Psychosis with the Tequila Sunrise. After the match, Rey Mysterio, Jr. - still on crutches - shows up and gets in the ring, but when Konnan kicks one of Rey's crutches away, Rey smashes the other one across Konnan's back to reveal he's no longer injured. Rey then helps Psychosis out of the ring.

Glacier and "The Cat" Earnest Miller beat Damien and Silver King.

Eric Bischoff shows up. Bischoff says he has no love for The Giant and "The Living Legend" Larry Zbyszko for what they did to him last week, and brings out "the man who still has not figured how to fill my shoes," James J. Dillon. Dillon shows up, and tells Dillon to tell The Giant that if he ever lays another hand on him, he'll sue him for everything he and his children and grandchildren will ever as per his attorneys. As for Zbyszko, if he ever lays another finger on him, he will take his left foot and kick him right between his eyes. Dillon says he won't have to deliver any messages to Zbyszko, as he heard him loud and clear. Dillon laughs as he leaves.

Pyrotechnics signal the start of the third hour. The Nitro Girls dance around the commentary table.

Before the next match, Curt Hennig shows up during "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair's entrance and shakes his hand before heading back to the back. Not long after the match, Curt Hennig then rushes to Flair's corner before the commercial break.

Diamond Dallas Page beats "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair by disqualification when Curt Hennig tries to interfere with a foreign object. Page stops Hennig and teases using it, but then tosses it to the referee and fights off Flair and Hennig at the same time.

Villano IV and Villano V beat Hector Garza and Lizmark Jr. with a small package on Lizmark Jr. after the Villanos switch places, unbeknownst to the ref who is being warned of this by Garza.

"Mean" Gene Okerlund interviews James J. Dillon in the ring. He says it has been a year since anyone in WCW has talked to Sting, as Sting's loyalties have been questioned by WCW management. Dillon says that he can sympathize with Sting, but it has become clear that Sting is willing to stand behind WCW and that it is a matter of what Sting wants. He has tried every means of communicating with Sting, but nothing has worked and he has not talked to Sting or met with anybody who has. Dillon wishes that Sting would show up and meet him eye-to-eye, as he has an opponent for him. He holds in his hand signed by a free agent, and all it needs is Sting's signature, and he hopes that it has what he wants. All of a sudden, Sting rappels down from the rafters to the aisle and approaches the ring. Dillon pledges to use his power from this point forward to restore the trust between WCW and Sting, and asks him to sign the contract for a match against Curt Hennig. Sting tears the contract up and leaves, and Dillon touches him, which causes Sting to look at him for a second before he heads back to the back.

We see The Nitro Girls interact with the crowd.

Lex Luger fights off Kevin Nash, Socott Hall and "Macho Man" Randy Savage to beat "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan with the Torture Rack and wn the WCW World Heavyweight Championship! Lex Luger celebrates in the ring with numerous WCW superstars. The celebration heads backstage, where champagne bottles are popped and The Giant tries to clean the nWo letters spray painted on the belt off with paint thinner. Meanwhile, a furious Hogan plans his revenge for Road Wild and asks the nWo - who consider the victory a fluke - to watch his back in Sturgis, South Dakota.

Nitro-Glycerin - Monday Nitro recap for June 16, 1997

The New World Order arrive in the arena in a limousine, with Dennis Rodman in tow, and make their way to the ring. After Bischoff makes a big deal of having two world champions in the ring in the form of "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan and Dennis Rodman, Hogan says the nWo-ites feel the same way about The Giant and Lex Luger as they do about Utah, and with Rodman as his tag team partner, he is guaranteed victory. He says The Outsiders (Kevin Nash and Scott Hall) got him on his toes and Syxx can do it all night long, and they got it done for the nWo last night, and tonight, he and Rodman will flush The Giant and Lex Luger out tonight, and if Luger and The Giant show up tonight, he'll let Rodman beat both them up at the same time. Bischoff says the whole world knows that Rodman is a man of few words, but he knows Rodman has something to say about Luger and The Giant. Rodman says The Giant may be bigger than him, but the bigger they are, the harder they fall, and asks where Luger and The Giant are. Hulk says Giant and The Luger can show up anytime they want tonight, and says Rodman can body slam The Giant for him while he takes care of Luger.

Glacier beats Mortis. Wrath gets in the ring after the match, and he and Glacier immediately start fighting. James Vandenberg gets in the ring with a pair of handcuffs, but Ernest Miller jumps the guardrail again and fights off Mortis, evening the numbers game. Doug Dellinger and WCW security keep Mortis and Wrath from getting back in the ring.

"Mean" Gene Okerlund interviews a devastated Madusa. Madusa says she is a woman of her word, and last night was the end of her career. She thanks the fans and her friends and family for all the support and making her who she is today, and in her heart, she will always be a wrestler.

Before the next match, Dean Malenko challenges Eddie Guerrero to get in the ring and face him like a man after the events of last night.

Dean Malenko beats Chavo Guerrero, Jr. with the Texas Cloverleaf. Eddie Guerrero shows up to watch the closing moments of the match form the entrance ramp, and it is evident that Guerrero's demeanor has changed as he slowly backs his way backstage while Malenko goes after him.

This Saturday on WCW Saturday Night: Chris Jericho! Harlem Heat (Booker T and Stevie Ray)! Lex Luger! The Giant!

Earlier tonight, Internet Insiders premiered, with "Mean" Gene Okerlund and Mark Madden interviewing "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair. The replay is available on wcwwrestling.com.

Super Calo beats La Parka. La Parka attacks Super Calo after the match and smashes a hard plastic chair over his head.

"Mean" Gene Okerlund interviews Lex Luger and The Giant. Luger mocks the confidence of "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan and Dennis Rodman, and says Hogan wasn't so cool when he made him submit to the Torture Rack last week. The Giant tells Rodman and Hogan he's got the guts, the guns and the choke slam, and dares them to come and get it. Luger says that if Hogan and Rodman think they're pushovers, they can get it on tonight.

The Amazing French Canadians (Jacques Rougeau and Carl Ouellet) sucker punch Harlem Heat (Booker T and Stevie Ray) from behind as they sing the Canadian national anthem before the next match.

Harlem Heat (Booker T and Stevie Ray) beat The Amazing French Canadians (Jaxques Rougeau and Carl Ouellet) as Rougeau's attempt to get the win by using one of Col. Robert Parker's boots as a weapon fails. "Mean" Gene Okerlund interviews WCW Executive Committee head J.J. Dillon after the match, and after the match of Lex Luger and The Giant vs. "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan and Dennis Rodman is official for tonight, it is announced that The New World Order and The Outsiders (Scott Hall and Kevin Nash) are manipulating the rankings in the tag team division in order to pick opponents. Harlem Heat are not happy about this announcement, as a rematch between Harlem Heat and The Steiner Brothers (Rick and Scott Steiners) to declare a new #1 contender is announced for next week. Vincent shows up, saying The New World Order simply gave them an opportunity last week, and Harlem Heat give Vincent the beating of his life after saying they'll beat The New World Order.

Pyrotechnics signify the start of the second hour.

Syxx retains the WCW Cruiserweight Championship against Rey Mysterio, Jr. with the Buzzkiller after Rey fights off The Outsiders (Kevin Nash and Scott Hall). Kevin Nash hits Rey with a Jackknife Power Bomb after the match, then says Rey found out just like "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair and "Rowdy" Roddy Piper that The Wolfpac (Nash, Hall, Syxx) are the strongest beasts in the jungle, and that last night they divided the herd after Piper made the kill much sweeter by putting up a fight. Hall dismisses the iconic status of Flair and Piper, and says "Macho Man" Randy Savage is the real icon as The Wolfpack introduces him to the ring. Savage appears along with Miss Elizabeth, and Hall declares that Chicago, Illinois is nWo territory. Savage brags about his victory against Diamond Dallas Page, and pays homage to the rest of the nWo. Hall says he had to leave the arena early last night, but says he heard it was one of Savage's most stellar performances. Savage goes on to say he was on the top of his game, then Diamond Dallas Page is seen in the nosebleed section with Kimberly. Page says Savage proved last night that he couldn't get the job done himself, as he needed "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan to take him out twice and is now tag teaming with Scott Hall. Page says nobody knows Hall better than him, and that he got on the phone and made a few calls to some key players. Page now has a tag team partner, and says everyone knows who he is. Page then challenges The Outsiders to a tag team match at Bash at the Beach.

Before the next match, Sonny Onoo tries to make an offer for Chris Jericho, but Jericho pushes Onoo backwards by his face.

The Ultimate Dragon beats Chris Jericho.

"Mean" Gene Okerlund interviews "Rowdy" Roddy Piper. Piper says Dennis Rodman cannot borrow his kilt tonight, and neither can the people that are booing. Piper mentions "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair deserting him in last night's main event, and doesn't believe that Flair left him to the wolves. He wants to hear what happened from Flair himself, and calls Flair out. Flair shows up and tells Piper he is his friend for life, and that he will never leave him. He tells Piper he had the fight of his life with Syxx as he tells Piper that he'll stand by him forever. Piper and Flair then head to the back.

Scott Norton and Buff Bagwell beat Jeff Jarrett and Steve "Mongo" McMichael after Mongo hits Jarrett with a Tombstone Piledriver in response to Jarrett accidentally hitting him with the steel Halliburton briefcase last night.

Before the next match, "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan says The Giant and Lex Luger are nothing but talk, and Dennis Rodman says he's ready. After the commercial break, Rodman decides he and Hogan might as well leave after The Giant and Lex Luger have failed to appear after two minutes. As they leave, however, Lex Luger and The Giant show up. Hogan hits Luger with a kick to the groin, then keeps The Giant from choke slamming Rodman. Rodman nails The Giant in the back with the WCW World Heavyweight Championship, and Hogan does the same to Luger as The Wolfpack (Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, Syxx) join in. Hogan and Rodman spray paint "nWo" on the backs of Luger and THe Giant with black spray paint as "Macho Man" Randy Savage gets in the ring as the rest of the nWo celebrate.

Nitro-Glycerin - Monday Nitro recap for May 19, 1997

This episode is an hour long due to the NBA playoffs.

"Mean" Gene Okerlund announces the start of the show, then interviews "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair. Flair celebrates last night's victory, but it's not longer before Syxx shows up. He says that WCW beat nobody last night and the wrong guy was in the ring. He also says that he can take Flair after having been in the ring with him last night, and if Flair's got the guts, they can do it tonight, right here, right now. Flair once again says he doesn't know about Scott Hall or Kevin Nash, but he calls Syxx "a fly in the ointment" and tells him he will kick his flyweight ass. He shoves Syxx, which starts a brief brawl that is near the commentary table for a few seconds before Syxx runs to the back.

Steven Regal beats Prince Iaukea with the Regal Stretch.

Mike Tenay guests on commentary for the next match to announce that Nitro is coming to Las Vegas, Nevada on June 30th. On that day, he will join "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair and Madusa for an autograph signing at the Great Gardens box office, and a major star will make his WCW debut that night.

Masahiro Chono beats David Taylor with an STF.

"Mean" Gene Okerlund interviews Sonny Onoo. Onoo says he can make or destroy a champion, and tells Masahiro Chono he has a debt to pay with him and all of New Japan. Next week, Onoo has Chono's worst nightmare, and Chono will have a match with him. When Chono asks who it is, Onoo says he will make him sweat, and refuses to divulge any details on this mystery opponent.

WCW Executive Committee member and Chairman James J. Dillon announces that Nick Patrick is officially reinstated as a referee, and will be on probation for the next 30 days to show that he deserving of this second chance.

Scotty Riggs beats Michael Wallstreet - who now wears an anti-WCW shirt - after referee Nick Patrick keeps Wallstreet from pulling a weapon out of his pocket and kicks Wallstreet's hand off the rope during a pinfall.

"Mean" Gene Okerlund introduces Mark Martin, who is accompanied by "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair. The car in front of them is going to be given away. All one has to do to win is to go anywhere where Valvoline is sold and register to win between now and June 25th. For more info, call 1-800-TEAM-VAL. He hopes to win this weekend, and Flair asks Martin to stick around long enough to stick Syxx to the wall.

Lee Marshall calls from Nashville, Tennessee - the site of next week's Nitro - for the 1-800-COLLECT Road Report.

The Steiner Brothers (Rick and Scott Steiner) beat The Four Horseman (Jeff Jarrett and Steve "Mongo" McMichael) after Kevin Greene shows up and smashes the steel Halliburton briefcase into Mongo's back. An enraged Mongo runs to the back and shoves head of WCW security Doug Dellinger to the side in the process. Before the break, it is announced that Nitro is returning to its original starting time of 7:55 PM Eastern, 6:55 PM Central and returning to two hours.

"The Nature Boy" Ric Flair beats Syxx by disqualification in his first singles match since returning from injury after The Outsiders (Kevin Nash and Scott Hall) show up and attack Flair. Any officials who try to break this up are immediately attacked by the threesome. Nash says that if last night was Flair's finest moment, tonight is anything but. Nash says it's now about putting Flair and "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, saying that Piper "had better be strapped sitting on top of that mountain, 'cause we're gonna be bumrushin' you, old man." Hall asks Nash to call the Smithsonian as they have one-half of that dinosaur exhibit they were looking for, and that Piper will be sitting in the other half soon.

Eric Bischoff shows up. Last week, he had something he wanted to say to Sting, and has called him at home, at the gym where he used to work out, and even hired a private detective agency to find him and keep track of him so he can give him a message, but he can't find him. Bischoff looks up at the ceiling a few times, then says Sting isn't here because he's a coward who is consumed with his hatred for "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan. He says Sting will never get in the ring with Hogan because he loves him and is not worth a drop of Hogan's perspiration, and that Sting should worship the ground that Hogan spits on. He then wishes Sting was here tonight so he could slap the paint off of his face. Almost as if on cue, Sting pops out from underneath the ring in the corner of the ring and hits Sting with a reverse DDT.

Nitro-Glycerin - Monday Nitro recap for April 28, 1997

Tonight's episode is one hour due to the NBA Playoffs. Tony Schiavone, "The Living Legend" Larry Zbyszko and Bobby "The Brain" Heenan are on commentary for the show.

Tonight's show begins with Ric Flair winning his 13th World Heavyweight Championship against Vader, as Ric Flair returns to the ring in a few days.

"Rowdy" Roddy Piper and "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair show up to start tonight's show, but instead of walking to the ring, they walk to the commentary table. They say that the New World Order are angry with them for "not filling the potholes." Piper says he doesn't want to wait until Slamboree to take them on. Instead, he wants the nWo to bring it tonight or not at all. Flair says they're ready to go as he dares the nWo to stay up all night and dance a little longer.

We see pre-recorded comments from Jeff Jarrett, who proclaims that Dean Malenko's 1,000 holds means 1,001 counters to him and that he will earn Malenko's respect like he did with The Four Horsemen ("The Nature Boy" Ric Flair, "The Enforcer" Arn Anderson, "The Crippler" Chris Benoit, Steve "Mongo" McMichael) as he beats him for the WCW United States Heavyweight Championship.

Dean Malenko retains the WCW United States Heavyweight Championship against Prince Iaukea with the Texas Cloverleaf.

Syxx retains the WCW Cruiserweight Championship against Juventud Guerrera with the Buzzkiller.

Lee Marshall calls from Lakeland, Florida - the site of next week's Nitro - for the 1-800-COLLECT Road Report.

The Outsiders (Kevin Nash and Scott Hall) and Syxx show up, and they walk to the commentary table this time. Hall says they were sitting in the back when they heard "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair and "Rowdy" Roddy Piper wanted a piece of them. He tells them "whatever" as he says nobody cares what they have to say, as everyone in Norfolk, Virginia is here for the New World Order. Nash says that in Charlotte, North Carolina, they have no problem giving them the beating of their lives, and it will be for 75% of the gate (ticket and merchandise sales) as "it don't come cheap." He also says that they miss "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan. When the commentators return, it is mentioned that Nash wanted 75% of the gate so that they could get out of the match, thinking that WCW would not meet that kind of demand.

"Lord" Steven Regal beats "The Crippler" Chris Benoit by disqualification when The Taskmaster, Jimmy Hart and Jacqueline show up and The Taskmaster attacks Benoit from behind. This escalates into a brawl between Benoit and The Taskmaster, and after Benoit kicks The Taskmaster in the groin, Jacqueline jumps on Benoit only to be pulled off by Woman. Meng gets a death grip on Benoit, and even "Lord" Steven Regal can't beat Meng off of Benoit. Meng finally drops the hold after Woman and The Taskmaster stare a hole through him. Woman then tends to Benoit.

"Macho Man" Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth tell Diamond Dallas Page that Savage and Page are on the road to disaster, and that Page is in his world. He then says that Kimberly will find out that DDP won't be able to handle him, and that Kimberly is dreaming about him and not Page because she has class "with a capital K." He tells Page that he will realize he should have never knocked on his door, and that he and Kimberly can't handle him.

Lex Luger and The Giant beat The Amazing French Canadians (Jacques Rougeau and Carl Ouellet) with a choke slam to Rougeau and a Torture Rack to Ouellet.

Steve "Mongo" McMichael beats The Barbarian with a steel Halliburton briefcase shot to The Barbarian's head as Debra McMichael distracts the referee.

"Rowdy" Roddy Piper and "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair show up again, and this time they're ready to fight, saying it is time to fix what is not yet broken. They call out The New World Order. Flair says he doesn't know if he can beat Kevin Nash or Scott Hall, but he can beat Syxx as he's gotten the World Heavyweight Championship "more times than Syxx has had pieces of ass." The New World Order music plays, but when it turns off, papers fall from the top of the arena, with "Tradition bites! nWo 4 life" printed on them. Suddenly, Hall, Nash and Syxx show up, and Syxx rushes to wards the ring only to run right into Flair. Hall and Nash try to get the jump on Flair, but they both get punched in the groin and Flair puts Syxx in the Figure Four Leg Lock. Hall and Nash eventually recover and all three men gang up on him. Nitro-Glycerin - Monday Nitro recap for April 14, 1997

The New World Order show up at the commentary table and take it over once again. Kevin Nash says that one thing that is clear to him tonight is that Philadephia, Pennsylvania is definitely nWo country. He then tells Lex Luger, who is in the back, that he has to go through him to get his shot at "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan. The nWo then leaves.

"The Crippler" Chris Benoit beats The Barbarian, then The Dungeon of Doom attacks Benoit after the match. Jeff Jarrett and Steve "Mongo" McMichael rush in to make the save. "Mean" Gene Okerlund interviews Benoit after the match as Jarrett and McMichael leave. Benoit tells The Taskmaster that he's listened to his interviews lately and notices he goes on about retribution and karma as he tries to justify himself. He admits he hasn't always done the right thing, and says The Taskmaster is like the plague. If Benoit does not destroy The Taskmaster, The Taskmaster will destroy him. He tells The Taskmaster that the sun will soon set on his career.

Dean Malenko beats Hector Guerrero with the Texas Cloverleaf. Eddie Guerrero, now with his left hand in a cast, confronts Malenko as he is on his way out. Eddie tells Malenko that if he hurts his brother, he will bring out a side of him that he will not like. Malenko says he knows what Eddie is about, and so do the rest of the fans. Eddie then checks on brother Hector.

Reggie White of the Green Bay Packers is seen in the front row. It is announced that Reggie White has signed to wrestle for WCW in a match against Steve "Mongo" McMichael, and that McMichael has not signed his name on the contract for this match yet.

Rey Mysterio Jr. beats Juventud Guerrera.

"Mean" Gene Okerlund interviews Luna Vachon. She says she is the woman who lacks the restraints that hold an ordinary chameleon together, and she is the woman that is the number one contender for the WCW Women's Championship. She tells Madusa she will take the belt from around her waist and calls her "a pumped-up beauty queen."

The Ultimate Dragon beats Lane Carlson.

This Saturday on WCW Saturday Night: Public Enemy (Johnny Grunge and "Flyboy" Rocco Rock)! The Ultimate Dragon! The Steiner Brothers (Rick and Scott Steiner)! Glacier! Lex Luger and The Giant!

Syxx retains the WCW Cruiserweight Championship against Prince Iaukea by submission with a move Syxx calls "The Buzzkiller."

"Mean" Gene Okerlund interviews "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair, Kevin Greene and "Rowdy" Roddy Piper. Piper says that every time he is at Nitro, "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan happens to be staying at home, and instead of seeing a big bald guy, he sees the rest of the New World Order surrounding him. He says that are no brains between all of the collective members, and dares the New World Order to come on down to the ring at Slamboree so they can take them on. He says that he and Flair laid the foundation back in the 1980s, and if it weren't for them, Hulk Hogan and the nWo wouldn't look so cool right now. Greene tells Hogan's advice, and it worked, then he stabbed everyone in the back and became part of The New World Order. He says that Piper and Flair made wrestling, and that he knows about a little something called respect. Flair talks about how he looked Verne Gagne in the eye in 1973 and thanked him for helping him get in the greatest sport in the world, how ten years later he wrestled Dick the Bruiser and made it to the big time, and how he took on "Macho Man" Randy Savae in 1993. He says he will go all night long for years to come.

Pyrotechnics signal the start of the second hour.

Public Enemy (Johnny Grunge and "Flyboy" Rocco Rock) beat High Voltage (Rage and Kaos) in a Philadelphia Street Fight after Rage is put through two tables.

The Giant quickly beats Big Al.

Diamond Dallas Page beats Konnan. After the match, "Macho Man" Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth can be seen in the stands, and Savage tells Page that if he has a problem with him, he has a problem with Page. He tells Kimberly to quit fantasizing about him and calling him. Page immediately makes his way into the crowd and goes after Savage and Elizabeth.
Ray Rhodes, head coach of the Philadephia Eagles, is seen in the crowd.

Lee Marshall calls from Saginaw, Michigan - the site of next week's Nitro - for the 1-800-COLLECT Road Report.

The Four Horsemen (Jeff Jarrett and Steve "Mongo" McMichael) beat Harlem Heat (Booker T and Stevie Ray) by disqualification after Sister Sherri keeps Debra at bay and causes the use of the steel Halliburton briefcase to backfire. Sister Sherri tries to whack Debra in the head with the briefcase, but misses. Before the match, it is announced that next week will have an announcement of what has been going on behind the scenes in World Championship Wrestling since Eric Bischoff was suspended from his duties as Executive Vice President. It is also announced that Nick Patrick has petitioned to be re-signed as a referee to World Championship Wrestling, implying that Nick Patrick is defecting from the New World Order. "Mean" Gene Okerlund interviews Jarrett and Mongo after the match, and it is announced that Steve "Mongo" McMichael will face Reggie White in a wrestling ring at Slambree, calling it an honor that White wants him in the squared circle while accusing White of selling out when he won a Super Bowl last year for the Green Bay Packers. White gets in the ring and stares down Mongo, and Mongo spits in his face as security tries to separate the men. Reggie White wastes no time tackling Mongo before behind held back by security, while Jarrett has to keep Mongo from going at White.

Lex Luger beats Kevin Nash by disqualification after The New World attack Luger. Diamond Dallas Page shows up and fights the nWo, but the numbers game quickly catches up with him. The Giant shows up , and Nash dares him to come into the ring with a lead pipe into his hand that was brought to the ring by Vincent. The Giant does not enter the ring, but the real Sting does, and he shows up with three black baseball bats. He tosses one to Luger, one to Page and one to The Giant. Sting gets into the ring with his own baseball bat, then the others rush in, sending the New World Order running and Sting nails Nash with the bat.

Nitro-Glycerin - Monday Nitro recap for September 23, 1996

We see an ad The New World Order put in today's issue of USA Today, where the Nitro has "nWo" pasted over the WCW logo and the message "When WCW's away, the nWo will play!" next to it.

We see footage from earlier today where fans tear up New World Order flyers in protest of The New World Order's attempt at taking WCW over.

Mike Tenay guests on commentary for the next match.

The Taskmaster and Konnan beat Brad Armstrong and Juventud Guerrera, with Konnan doing all the work and Taskmaster getting the pinfall. The Taskmaster and Big Bubba beat up Konnan after the match, but it is soon revealed that this is a gang-style initiation into The Dungeon of Doom for Konnan. At the end of the match, the nWo street team shows up in the audience carrying nWo signs again.

Mike Tenay interviews "Macho Man" Randy Savage backstage. Savage tells "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan that nothing he does will change the fact that he will take him down at Halloween Havoc. He says he was booked for Japan, too, but he got out of the tour to Japan to be at Nitro as it is not set in stone if Hogan will beat him up or if he will take down everyone in The New World Order tonight. He plans to wipe Hogan out at Halloween Havoc.

Chris Jericho reverses a power slam to beat Mike Enos.

Glacier quickly beats Pat Tanaka after taking all the fight out of Tanaka in an instant with a spinning roundhouse kick.

The New World Order ("Hollywood" Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, "Sting," Syxx, The Giant, Ted DiBiase) is seen outside of the arena.

In a surprise twist, Public Enemy (Johnny Grunge and "Flyboy" Rocco Rock) beat Harlem Heat (Booker T and Stevie Ray) with a small package turned onto its side to win the WCW World Tag Team Championships, much to the chagrin of both Col. Robert Parker and Sister Sherri.

Pyrotechnics signal the start of the second hour.

"Macho Man" Randy Savage vs. Greg "The Hammer" Valentine ends when Savage hits Valentine with a steel chair and tosses the referee out of the ring just before The New World show up and attack Savage. Miss Elizabeth shows up from backstage, but runs back to the back. The Giant then introduces "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan, who then attacks Savage himself before Kevin Nash mockingly whips Savage with a Slim Jim thrown into the ring. Hogan says he's used to Hollywood, but says the lights beaming off Savage's bald head are too much to bear and spray paints Savage's head black. Scott Hall and Kevin Nash run to the broadcast table and chase off Mike Tenay and Bobby "The Brain" Heenan before telling Eric Bischoff to do his job. The rest of The New World Order minus "Sting" and Hogan join in, and Scott Hall then introduces Ted DiBiase's head of security, Vincent - the man formerly known as Virgil in the World Wrestling Federation. Bischoff tries to get out of the booth, but The New World Order won't let him as they take over on commentary. It is announced during the match that Super Calo has dislocated his shoulder in a match that took place before the show and is headed to the hospital.

A new announcement for the New World Order shirt - paid for by The New World Order - is shown.

Scott Hall says The New World Order has taken over everything they've come across and says that they could take over the NBA, NFL or NASCAR if they could. A New World Order racing car shows up, and the driver is announced to be none other than Kyle Petty.

The Giant takes over as ring announcer for the rest of the show as well as the next match - Jim Powers vs. Michael Wallstreet - which doesn't happen with Scott Hall, Kevin Nash and Syxx decide to get a closer look at the match. By "get a closer look," they obviously mean beat up Jim Powers. Referee Randy Anderson decides he wants no part of this, and leaves the ring while referee Nick Patrick - who does referee duties for the rest of the show - takes his place. :Hollywood" Hulk Hogan tags the backstage area as The Giant hits Jim Powers with a choke slam. As The Giant ends up "the winner of the match," Hogan meets up with The Nasty Boys (Jerry Sags and Brian Knobbs) and tells them he wants to "talk business" with them and ask them to head to his hotel suite, even going so far as to hand them the room key and ask them to wait for him there as well as take the World Heavyweight Championship to the suite with them.

Before the next match, "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan and Kevin Nash get Ron Studd's attention before his match against "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan, but instead of potential membership, he gets beat up by Hogan and Nash. Syxx ends up being "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan's opponent instead.

Syxx beats "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan after The Giant hits a choke slam on Duggan outside of the ring while referee Nick Patrick is tending to Syxx. "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan, when asked what The New World Order wants, Hogan simply says "We want it all."

"Sting" (called "nWo Sting" on the broadcast) beats Beau LeDoux with the Scorpion Deathlock...and refuses to let go of the hold for some time. Hollywood Hogan says he will beat "Macho Man" Randy Savage up really bad at Halloween Havoc as he sneezes and tears up a Macho Man bandanna.

Before the next match - High Voltage (Ronnie Rage and Kenny Khaos) vs. The Amazing French Canadians (Jacques Rougeau and Carl Ouellet) - can begin, The Outsiders (Scott Hall and Kevin Nash) show up and take The Amazing French Canadians' place.

The Outsiders (Kevin Nash and Scott Hall) beat High Voltage (Ronnie Rage and Kenny Khaos) in what Ted DiBiase deems "the first match of the nWo tag team title tournament."
