Layin' da SmackDown - SmackDown recap for May 15, 2020

It's time for Miz TV to start tonight's show. Tonight's guest is Otis, who wastes no time making his way to the ring and doing a cartwheel in front of the announce table. Otis then stands after accidentally breaking the free seat in the ring for him, and says that despite winning the Money In The Bank Contract, his biggest win is winning the heart of Mandy Rose. As for how he won, Otis says that some things crack up, but not him. We then see pictures of Otis growing up while The Miz and John Morrison make fun of him. Miz eventually says he cannot take Otis anymore, as he used the briefcase to elevate himself while Otis uses it as a lunch box. He then tells Otis to find Tucker so they can have a tag team match, but Otis says Tucker cannot make it. As a ringside worker replaces the chair Otis broke, Miz tells Otis to find any tag team partner he can for later tonight.

It is announced that Sami Zayn's WWE Intercontinental Championship is being held in abeyance, and that there will be an eight-man tournament to crown a new champion starting tonight.

Elias beats King Corbin to advance to the next round of the Intercontinental Championship Tournament with a high knee and an inside cradle after Corbin smashes Elias' guitar on the ring post.

Backstage, Otis is met by Sheamus, whom Otis asks to be his tag team partner. Sheamus says there is no chance and leaves.

Backstage, Otis is trying to figure out what to do when Mandy Rose shows up. Mandy proposes he ask Braun Strowman. Otis likes the idea and sets off to find Strowman.

Dana Brooke beats Naomi with a sit-down pinfall attempt.

Charlotte Flair shows up. Charlotte says she is working all three brands because people want more of her, and so Fox used the brand-to-brand invitation to bring her to SmackDown due to her accomplishments and family name. She says she is surprised there isn't a giant picture of her hanging around to inspire the rest of the locker room, then Bayley and Sasha Banks show up. Bayley says that Fox is like the rest of the sheep in bring Charlotte over to the blue brand, then she and Sasha remind Charlotte that the last time they met, Bayley beat her for the SmackDown Women's Championship. After Charlotte mentions that she was unconscious the first time and that she needed an attitude and wardrobe change the second time, Bayley tells her a champion has to do what a champion has to do before telling Charlotte to go back to NXT. Bayley says that this is her and Sasha's show, as she gets the job done and she is the leader. She then tells Charlotte to get out of their ring, but Charlotte tells Bayley that Sasha is the only reason she is champion, much less relevant. She says that she and Sasha main evented shows and pay-per-views together, then questions Sasha being content as an afterthought in Bayley's corner. This makes Bayley want to fight her tonight, and Charlotte accepts her challenge. Charlotte then asks Sasha Banks one more question: "Are you your own woman, or are you just going to be Bayley's lackey and happy being an afterthought?"

Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviews Braun Strowman, who says that he is just trying to think while warming up when asked if he is considering being Otis's tag team partner tonight.

We hear from The Forgotten Sons (Jaxson Ryker, Steve Cutler, Wesley Blake). Jaxson Ryker says that they chose to serve their country to fight for something they believed in, but they were not welcomed with open arms like heroes when they came back. Therefore, they will welcome their competition with closed fists.

Backstage, Renee Young interviews The Miz and John Morrison. Morrison says that even Braun is not dumb enough to tag with Otis tonight, and Miz says Braun knows he cannot hang with him and Morrison.

Daniel Bryan beats Drew Gulak with a heel hook to advance to the next round of the Intercontinental Championship Tournament. After the match, Renee Young interviews Daniel Bryan, who says that nearly five years ago, he had to forfeit the Intercontinental Championship when he was forced to retire, and he always wanted to win it back and make it represent the absolute greatest wrestler in WWE: himself. Afterwards, Gulak and Daniel show good sportsmanship and shake hands.

Next week: Charlotte Flair vs. Bayley in a Champion vs. Champion Match! "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles vs. Shinsuke Nakamura and Jeff Hardy vs. Sheamus in the Intercontinental Championship Tournament! Mandy Rose and Otis vs. Dolph Ziggler and Sonya Deville!

We hear from Sonya Deville, who tells Mandy Rose that everything she said she would do to her has become reality, and now she and Dolph Ziggler will humiliate her and Otis. She then concludes that the only thing Mandy Rose is good at is being blonde and pretty, and when that is all over, that will leave Mandy in a double-wide trailer barefoot with screaming kids and Otis. She then says Mandy will never be as good as she is, and that she is only getting started with the plans she has for her. She tells Mandy to put on her big girl pants and prove why she belongs in the ring with her.

Before the next match, it is revealed that Braun Strowman is Otis' tag team partner.

Otis and Braun Strowman beat The Miz and John Morrison. After the match, Mandy Rose shows up to congratulate Otis, who almost tries to sneak up on Strowman. Otis says he is just kidding, then Strowman and Otis bump fist before Otis hugs Mandy.
