Layin' da SmackDown - SmackDown recap for May 1, 2020

Before the next match, Daniel Bryan says it is no secret that he loves wrestling and that he loves to try new things and challenges. He says that in nine days, he gets to take part in the most unique Money In The Bank Ladder Match in history in WWE Headquarters. He says that six men and six women will fight each other at once and risk it all for a contract for a championship match anytime, any place, and while he has competed in a lot of weird and wild places, he has never competed in an office building. After mentioning that he has no idea what the rules are or how the match will be, he talks about how he could never get booked on SmackDown until he won the Money In The Bank Ladder Match, cashed in on Big Show and became World Champion. He calls the match a pivotal moment in his career and the first step towards all that was to follow, and for that, he is excited, but he is also a little sad, because he hoped that Drew Gulak would also be part of the match. Unfortunately, King Corbin and his cronies ruined that, and Daniel Bryan calls King Corbin out. Corbin tells Daniel Bryan to be careful what he wishes for when calling out a king, as his kind makes Daniel's kind suffer like he did to Gulak. He tells Daniel to stop dreaming about winning Money In The Bank, for it is a dream and he is not the only person who has won the briefcase before. Corbin says he will stand tall on the top of the ladder and look down as Mr. Money In The Bank. Daniel asks him if he will squander the opportunity again, as there have been 23 cash-ins, four have failed, and his was one of them. After Daniel calls Corbin "a loser," Corbin calls Daniel "tired and weak," and says he is stronger and smarter and will prove it right now.

Daniel Bryan beats King Corbin by disqualification after Corbin throws a ladder at him. After the match, Corbin slides a ladder into the ring, then goes for End of Days only for Daniel Bryan to reverse it into a Yes! Lock. Suddenly, Shinsuke Nakamura shows up and kicks Daniel in the back of the head. Cesaro also shows up and hits Daniel from behind with the ladder before Corbin tosses Daniel into the ladders from the stage.

Braun Strowman shows up. He addresses the trip down memory lane from last week, then says the past is the past. Before he can say more, Bray Wyatt shows up on the video screen. Wyatt is sitting on a wooden rocking chair as he reads a tale called "The Black Sheep," complete with a black sheep mask on the cover. Wyatt recalls how Braun was stronger than everyone else, and how the shepherd - in this case, Bray - took him in and Braun protected the farm until the sheep left for greener pastures with no warning, leaving Bray sad. He says that his cries fell on deaf ears, and eventually, the shepherd was alone and he lost everything to the government and the Reptilians took over. Bray then proposes an alternate ending where he finds the sheep, taking what makes him happy and sends him to the slaughterhouse. Braun has enough and tells Bray to say what he has to say to him to his face. Bray simply responds by waving goodbye.

We see a video package narrated by John Cena for Make-A-Wish's 40th anniversary.

Sheamus beats Leon Ruff. After the match, Sheamus confronts Michael Cole for talking about Jeff Hardy again. We see the story of Jeff Hardy in Chapter Four, "The Comeback." It is then announced that Jeff Hardy will return next week. Sheamus tells Michael Cole that if Jeff Hardy will be on the show next week, then so will he. He pats Cole on the back, then leaves.

Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviews Otis and Mandy Rose. Otis says he beat Dolph Ziggler at WrestleMania and he will do it again for the Money In The Bank Ladder Match. Mandy says that while what Sonya Deville did hurt her, her focus tonight is on Carmella, and she will not moonwalk over her. She looks forward to climbing the corporate ladder for a contract along with Otis, then says she's got Carmella before kissing Otis.

Carmella beats Mandy Rose to qualify for the women's Money In The Bank Ladder Match. During the match, Sonya Deville shows up and starts distracting Mandy Rose, saying she gave Mandy her Money In The Bank Ladder Match spot and that she is doing great, then reminds her that she lost last year and that she will lose tonight to Carmella. She then says she is sick of the fun and games, and tells Sonya to bring it on if she wants to prove she is tough. The distraction allows Carmella to get the win and qualify for the women's Money In The Bank Ladder Match. After the match, Sonya runs into the ring and attacks Mandy, telling her that she will never be better than her and that she has been in her shadow for far too long. Sonya then looks down on Mandy before she is forced to the back. Sonya tells Mandy that she will end her and ruin her life.

Backstage, a trainer checks on Mandy Rose, who will be okay. Otis leaves the trainer's room, then runs into Dolph Ziggler, who asks if Mandy is okay. Ziggler backs off when Otis looks at him angrily.

The Miz and John Morrison guest on commentary for the next match.

The Forgotten Sons (Wesley Blake and Steve Cutler) beat The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Big E).

It is announced that the men's and women's Money In The Bank Ladder Matches at Money In The Bank will take place simultaneously in WWE's headquarters.

Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviews Tamina. Tamina says it took four women to beat her at WrestleMania, and she is up to the challenge of a bunch of mean girls masquerading around. Sasha Banks shows up and tries to reason with Tamina, but Bayley tries to attack from behind. Tamina catches Bayley, and Sasha attacks Tamina. Lacey Evans runs in to even the odds, and Sasha and Bayley have to be separated from Lacey and Tamina.

Backstage, Sonya Deville talks with Dolph Ziggler, saying she wishes she could have seen the look on Otis' face when he asked if Mandy Rose was okay, and says she will continue to hurt Mandy like he will hurt Otis. Ziggler says they are not bad guys for understanding how the world works, and says that guys like Otis think heart actually matters when they get pats on the bike, sympathy likes and the occasional participation award; meanwhile, he is a winner. Ziggler says he does not like to be second-best, and that the will beat Otis to qualify, win again, cash in the Money In The Bank contract again to become champion again, and be there to make Mandy feel better as the new champ.

Next week: Drew Gulak, Daniel Bryan and a mystery partner vs. King Corbin, Shinsuke Nakamura and Cesaro! Lacey Evans and Tamina vs. Bayley and Sasha Banks! Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman meet face-to-face!
