Layin' da SmackDown - SmackDown recap for May 8, 2020

Backstage, Mandy Rose talks with Otis. Mandy says her match with Sonya Deville has been a long time coming, and tells Otis to focus on his match tonight. Meanwhile, Sonya Deville tells Dolph Ziggler that she will give Mandy "five years' worth of beatings." Ziggler says he will be backstage waiting, and asks her to go easy on the face. Sonya says she cannot make any promises.

Sonya Deville beats Mandy Rose after catching a high knee and grabbing the tights during a schoolkid pin.

The Forgotten Sons (Steve Cutler and Wesley Blake), The Miz and John Morrison beat The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Big E) and The Lucha House Party (Lince Dorado and Gran Metalik) in an eight-man tag match.

Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviews King Corbin, who says that he is tagging with two assassins tonight against Daniel Bryan and "his stupid coach" Drew Gulak after beating them down and making them kiss his feet. He says he is looking past tonight and at Money In The Bank and how he will torture his opponents at WWE headquarters. He wants to see how far Rey Mysterio can fly or which door Aleister Black is hiding behind. He says Otis will not get past the ground floor and clog up the elevator shaft like he does his arteries, and that he can smell the fresh air at the top of WWE headquarters already.

Renee Young interviews Jeff Hardy in the ring. Jeff says he has climbed some tall mountains in WWE and Swanton Bombed off most of them, but also dove into some serious lows. Sheamus is watching from backstage, asking who even cares about Jeff. Jeff thanks the fans for standing behind him for all these years and asks them to stand behind him one more time. Sheamus heads towards the ring just before Jeff calls him out, and Sheamus shows up. Sheamus says Jeff Hardy begging for "one more sip from the bottle" is the saddest thing he has ever seen, as the fans are not here to give him "a pity swig."He then says than the fans of Jeff after his constant mess-ups, and says he used to respect him after Jeff calls him a hater. Sheamus asks how many wasted second chances a man could have, and says his next failure is around the corner. He then says that he has been cutting off SmackDown's weakest flames since his return, and that Jeff's flame has been "barely burning." Sheamus then says it's time to put it out. This leads to a brawl in the ring, which ends with Jeff hitting a Twist of Fate followed by the Swanton Bomb.

We see a preview for "Undertaker: The Last Ride," airing this Sunday on WWE Network after Money In The Bank.

Braun Strowman shows up. He says that he debuted with The Wyatt Family, but Bray Wyatt did not create him and felt threatened by him back then and should feel more threatened now. He then tells Bray that if he has something to say to him, to say it to his face. Bray shows up, and says it is a shame it had to come to this as he just wanted Strowman to say he is sorry. Strowman says he owes him nothing, and that Bray will be the one who is sorry on Sunday. Bray says a good creator knows his own creations and knows not just what Strowman will say or do, but what's best for him. Strowman says he does not know everything, but Bray says he must have him come back home so he can be special like him. He says that in order to do that, he must relieve him of the burden of the WWE Universal Championship, but Strowman reiterates to Bray that he does not know him and that it will all end at Money In The Bank. Bray says everything is just beginning, and gives him a taste of things to come by offering Strowman the black sheep mask. Abby, Mercy, Ramblin' Rabbit and Huskus also dare Strowman to take the mask. Strowman says he is home and he has the Universal Championship, and on Sunday, he will keep it while Bray is stuck playing with his puppets. He then mockingly says goodbye to Bray.

Backstage, Drew Gulak and Daniel Bryan talk with Otis and ask him if he has heard what King Corbin had to say about him earlier.

Lacey Evans and Tamina beat Sasha Banks and Bayley.

Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviews Carmella and Dana Brooke. Dana says that nobody can believe she could beat Naomi, but she did, and nobody knows what to expect in this year's Money In The Bank Ladder Match and she has just as good a chance as anyone. Carmella is only focused on Sunday's match despite how she won it, and says that while it is every woman for herself, that is okay with her, for she will remind everyone why 'Mella is money when she wins for a third time.

We hear from the hacker, who has not been seen in a few weeks. He asks if the fans are watching and listening, because he is, and says the thing about anger is that you can always hear it before you see it. He then says that payback will be coming "real soon."

Before the next match, Daniel Bryan and Drew Gulak's tag team partner is revealed to be Otis.

King Corbin, Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura beat Daniel Bryan, Drew Gulak and Otis. After the match, both teams continue to brawl after Daniel Bryan saves Drew Gulak from being ganged up on. Corbin is the only person near the ring as everyone else brawls their way to the back. Corbin takes a ladder, sets it up in the middle of the ring and climbs up when Daniel Bryan returns and attacks him. Corbin then tries again, but he is attacked this time by Otis, who uses the ladder as a weapon before climbing his way to the top. Otis breaks two of the rungs attempting to climb up, however, and Corbin gets back up and drives him into the ring post. Daniel Bryan gets back in the ring, but Corbin is on top of him. Daniel fights back, then climbs to the top only for Corbin to stop him and toss him into Otis on the outside. Corbin then climbs all the way up and grabs one of the two briefcases above to close out the show.
