Generation NXT - NXT recap for January 17, 2018

Tino Sabbatelli and Riddick Moss beat Heavy Machinery (Tucker Knight and Otis Dozovic) after Moss uses the top rope for leverage during a schoolboy pin.

We hear from The Undisputed Era (Adam Cole, Bobby Fish, Kyle O'Reilly). Adam Cole says NXT TakeOver is their event, and since they arrived, it has been about them, and for good reason. At Philadelphia, he will face Aleister Black in a Extreme Rules Match, and he will maim and embarrass him. Kyle O'Reilly says everyone wants the NXT tag team titles, but this is their regardless. Bobby Fish says everyone is competing for the right to step up and fall to them.

We see a video package chronicling the events leading to the Extreme Rules Match between Adam Cole and Aleister Black at NXT TakeOver: PhiladelphiaR, as well as some footage from the original ECW.

Roderick Strong beats Fabian Aichner with the Strong Hold. After the match, Strong says someone came looking for a fight, and his words are echoing in his head, for he feels the same way. He has gone through all the competition in his way just like him. He felt a force that he has never felt before, but he feels joy, because that is a force he wants to destroy. That force is Lars Sullivan.

We are re-introduced to TM61 - Nick Miller and Shane Thorne. TM61 talks about their mutual friendship, training at Harley Race's annual training camp, being recommended to WWE by Race, improving their skills in Japan and their path to NXT.

Next week: Part 2 of "Who is TM61?"

Lacey Evans beats Aliyah with a strong right hand. After the match, Lacey Evans talks about how it is time to get rid of the lowest scorns of societal trash, and says it is time a sophisticated, elegant woman cleaned house. She will start with Nikki Cross and Ember Moon. Suddenly, she is met by "The Queen of Spades" Shayna Baszler. Lacey walks away, but Baszler walks into the ring and puts Aliyah in the Karafuda Clutch, and refuses to let go. Suddenly, Ember Moon runs out and goes after Baszler, but Baszler rolls out of the ring. Ember Moon then dares to get in the ring with her right now and try it with her. Baszler says she doesn't have her gear and that she'll do it for her title. Ember Moon tells her to name the time and place and bring her gear so she can beat her ass. Baszler says she'll meet her at NXT TakeOver: Philadelphia, and tells her not to forget the title. Ember Moon and the referee then check on Aliyah.

Christy St. Cloud interviews General Manager William Regal, who makes "The Queen of Baszler" Shayna Baszler and Ember Moon for the NXT Women's Championship official for NXT TakeOver: Philadelphia. Suddenly, Zelina Vega shows up and mentions how Johnny Gargano has no chance of beating Andrade "Cien" Almas. However, Velveteen Dream is more deserving of a title shot. She says that Johnny should put his title shot on the line against Velveteen Dream. Regal says he would advise Gargano not to do that, but Zelina Vega says he would, because Gargano would lose. But if Gargano wants a shot at Andrade "Cien" Almas, then they are happy to oblige.

We hear from No Way Jose. He says 2017 was quite the year, but 2018 will be his year...and the conga line starts next week.

Johnny Gargano shows up unannounced and asks for a microphone. He says he has just seen General Manager William Regal's conversation with Zelina Vega, and says he has heard what everyone has to say. He says Zelina Vega, Velveteen Dream and William Regal doubt his ability to beat Andrade "Cien" Almas. He is tired of being doubted and he is not a broken man, and says his position right now is no fluke. He says this is his time and opportunity, and no one will stop him. If Velveteen Dream wants him to put his opportunity on the line, he will do it next week. For the first time, Gargano knows exactly who he is: "Johnny Freakin' Wrestling," and he is the next NXT Champion.

The Authors of Pain (Akam and Rezar) beat Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford) to become #1 contenders for the NXT Tag Team Championships at NXT TakeOver: Philadelphia.
