Nitro-Glycerin - Monday Nitro recap for January 11, 1999

"Mean" Gene Okerlund starts tonight's show by interviewing WCW President "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair. At Souled Out, he will walk the aisle with his oldest son David Flair, and the both of them will get a piece of Curt Hennig and Barry Windham. He also tells Hollywood Hogan that he has promised the wrestling world some big news, and says he has met with some bigwigs. Whether he likes it or not, Hogan is WCW World Heavyweight Champion, but at the same time, Hogan is signed to WCW until 2001 and he will be working for him. He also reinstates J.J. Dillon as the WCW Executive Committee Chairman. Dillon then announces that Hollywood Hogan's first title defense will be at SuperBrawl IX on February 21st, and that the Executive Committee will be picking his opponent and not the New World Order. Flair makes it clear that Hogan will be wrestling somebody from World Championship Wrestling. Dillon also announces the main event for Souled Out: a Ladder Match between Scott Hall and Goldberg where the cattle prod will be suspended high above the ring. Flair then brings out The Latino World Order, who show up without Eddie Guerrero, who is in the hospital with a broken leg and that the nWo have something to do with it. He asks them to take off the Latino World Order shirts and jump on the World Championship Wrestling bandwagon, and promises the money, cars and women that they have coming their way. The Latino World Order take off their shirts with the exception of Rey Mysterio Jr. (who is oddly their most reluctant member), especially after Ric Flair tells Juventud Guerrera that if he takes his shirt off, both of them will head down to Tijuana next week (he does). Flair then realizes that the show is one match short, and wants to wrestle Curt Hennig tonight. Dillon immediately makes the match official.

We see a video package of "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair's promo from last week.

It is announced that Eric Bischoff has been relieved of his duties as an announcer, and that we will see what his new job at WCW will be later on in the show.

"Mean" Gene Okerlund interviews Saturn. Saturn says Chris Jericho and referee Scott Dickinson cheated him, and demands a rematch. Jericho shows up with Ralphus, and the way he sees it, he beat Saturn fairly and squarely and had his hands raised by a WCW official, and that Saturn is crying like an adolescent schoolgirl and should be wearing a dress. Jericho gives Saturn his rematch, but if he beats him for the third time, Saturn has to wear a dress for the rest of his career. Saturn refuses, saying drag is not his thing, but eventually agrees to the stipulation, saying there is no way he is losing this match. Jericho says Saturn will never ever be able to handle wearing a dress as he does not have the personality, the attitude or the legs for it.

Before the next match, referee Scott Dickinson tells fellow referee Randy Anderson that WCW Executive Committee J.J. Dillon needs to see him in the back, even though Anderson is supposed to referee this match.

Ernest "The Cat" Miller beats Saturn by disqualification. As referee Scott Dickinson is distracted by Sonny Onoo, Saturn confronts Dickerson only to be struck from behind with a shovel by Saturn, which in turn inadvertently knocks Saturn into Dickinson. Nevertheless, Dickinson gives the win to The Cat. After the match, Jericho pulls out a dress, and tries to put Saturn in it but fails.

We see a performance by The Nitro Girls.

We see footage from last week where Eric Bischoff heads to work only to find out his parking spot has been taken, his I.D. card no longer works, and that his secretary Amy is no longer here. After a long wait, Bischoff finally has his meeting with WCW President "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair. Flair and Bischoff talk about the reformation of both nWo Hollywood and nWo Wolfpac, and says that he had nothing to do with it. Flair reminds Bischoff that he has elected to stay an employee of WCW as long as he is President, and tells him that he has plans for Hollywood Hogan and Kevin Nash; however, he will not talk about those plans and will keep their discussion about the two of them. Flair says he will make the next 90 days of Bischoff's life as miserable as he can, and shows him "his next venture" as part of the ring crew, which instantly leads to disgust from Bischoff as he gets in the truck.

"Mean" Gene Okerlund interviews Chavo Guerrero Jr., who tells his uncle Eddie Guerrero to get well soon. We then learn that the birthday cake is for Chavo's hobby horse Pepe, who has been going through a rough time as of late. Chavo, Okerlund and the fans with Pepe a happy birthday, but midway through the song, Norman Smiley shows up, not happy that he was not invited to the birthday. Nevertheless, he wants to make amends with Pepe and be here as a friend, and even goes so far as to extend his hand in friendship. Chavo does not want to shake hands, but Pepe does. Chavo extends Pepe to Norman Smiley, but Smiley hits Chavo with a clothesline and throws him into the guardrail before planting his face in the birthday cake. After slamming Chavo on the table, SMiley does the Big Wiggle before dumping the cake and the table on Chavo before horse-napping Pepe. We then see Norman Smiley head outside and toss Pepe into an industrial shredder, ending Pepe.

Raven is seen playing Backgammon with James (who is played by The Sandman from ECW). James tells Raven that he should ditch Kanyon like he did Saturn, especially since he was the only one who liked him. Raven then looks for his high school yearbook, and ends up finding pictures of "Rowdy" Roddy Piper.

An entourage of bikers welcome a limousine containing members of The New World Order. Other members welcome Hollywood Hogan, and Hogan mentions that there are some problems in the travel plans before the nWo heads to the ring. We then find out that the bikers are members of the Hell's Angels motorcycle gang, and one of the people on bikes is Chuck Zito, the president from the New York state chapter of Hell's Angels. Hogan says WCW and Goldberg said that they had no back-up, but makes it clear that they have back-up. As far as WCW President "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair goes, he admits he is on a contract, and says he will fight anybody in WCW on any night, as he can beat anybody in WCW. He also wants everyone to know that he is going to the White House to become United States President and the WCW World Heavyweight Champion. Kevin Nash then takes the microphone, and asks that if Tennessee is "Big Orange Country," why is everyone wearing black and red tonight. Later tonight, he will show the nation why he is the true, one and only giant. Scott Steiner takes the microphone and says the nWo will get stronger, as he will take on Diamond Dallas Page, and if Tony Schiavone calls DDP "the people's champion," he is going to puke, as all he sees is white trash, just like when he looks in the crowd. Scott Steiner says DDP has nothing he wants or needs, but he has somebody who needs him, and when he is done with him, he will take his wife Kimberly and show her what it is like to be with a real man. He then says that his arm is bigger than DDP's leg. Hogan then takes the microphone and says everyone realizes that the New World Order will rule through the new millennium, and he doesn't care if WCW, DDP, Goldberg or anybody else has sports teams or flight attendant teams. With the Hell's Angels on their side, nobody will get in their way anymore.

We see footage from last week's Nitro after the show went off the air where Goldberg tells the nWo that he has back-up in the form of NFL football players, and that he and WCW are now the hunters.

Kaz Hayashi beats Rey Mysterio Jr. by disqualification after he is suddenly attacked by Lex Luger. Luger then gets in the ring and tells Rey to take his Latino World Order shirt off. Rey refuses (even though he is the group's most reluctant member) and Luger kicks Rey in the gut before forcefully ripping the shit off and tossing Rey out of the ring. Rey holds on to the ropes on his way out, however, and fights back against Luger until Luger hits him with a backbreaker. Luger then stomps on Rey repeatedly before putting him in the Torture Rack. Konnan shows up and wants to know what Luger is doing, saying "The Wolfpac don't ride like that," saying he is not a threat and that they have known each other since kids. Luger states that Rey is not Wolfpac material, and also mentions the Wolfpac not doing everything together and even not having a spot in Konnan's music video. Konnan says that after just went down, he's glad Luger is not even in the music video as Kevin Nash and other members of the nWo show up. The nWo then attack Konnan and rip his nWo shirt off after Nash takes the mic and mockingly says "Let me speak on this!" Scott Hall then zaps Konnan with the taser, and Konnan keeps yelling to Nash to call the attack off. The nWo then takes cans of black and red spray paint, and spray paint "NWO" on Konnan's back. Luger then places the Latino World Order shirt on top of Konnan, confirming that Konnan has been kicked out of the group.

"Mean" Gene Okerlund interviews The Giant. The Giant says he will face Kevin Nash, and that this is all because he "dropped the ball" and "was suckered in by ["Macho Man" Randy Savage]." He says that Hollywood Hogan does so much stuff and tells nobody what is going on, and that he is finally tired of it. He then says he is fighting Kevin Nash not for Nash's spot in the stable, but also to go after the rest of the nWo afterwards. The Giant says he got wrapped up in the wrong things, and plans to unwrap himself from Hogan. He says that it is over between him and Nash, because when they get in the ring, he will scare the living daylights out of Nash by choke slamming him.

Booker T beats Lenny Lane.

We see Hollywood Hogan and Kevin Nash bragging about bringing nWo Hollywood and nWo Wolfpac back into one combined unit and reuniting the nWo, and make a bigger deal about their match from last week than it already is.

Before the next match, Scott Steiner and Buff Bagwell interact with a young woman in the front row.

Scott Steiner retains the WCW World Television Championship against Diamond Dallas Page with the Steiner Recliner. During the match, Buff Bagwell takes the microphone and mocks the chants for DDP while telling the crowd to shut up. Also during the match, Vincent shows up and Scott Steiner pushes DDP into referee Charles Robinson, who is grabbed by Vincent. Buff throws powder into DDP's eyes, yet DDP hits Vincent with a Diamond Cutter as Scott Steiner gets out of the ring. Steiner then hits DDP with a steel chair before putting him in the Steiner Recliner. Buff revives the referee, who acknowledges that Page is unconscious - even though it is due to the chair and not the submission - and gives Steiner the win.

We see a segment of an interview with Goldberg, who says that he has been an athlete all his life. One thing he has learned is that people make mistakes, and that he has done it in both college and professional football. He says that people who rise above correct those mistakes, and that at Starrcade, he made the mistake in thinking his match with Kevin Nash would be a fair contest, and calls it the biggest mistake of his life. He says the people who prosper are the ones who learn from their mistakes, and in that one night, he earned an education and his doctorate in professional wrestling, and promises that mistake will never happen again.

We see footage of Eric Bischoff working as part of the ring crew, where he mouths off at the supervisor of the ring crew and begrudgingly does his work.

Before the next match, Scott Hall talks about the video package from earlier of Goldberg losing the WCW World Heavyweight Championship, then asks the crowd if they want to see Goldberg get shocked one more time.

Scott Hall beats Bam Bam Bigelow. During the match, Disco Inferno shows up with a taser much like the one Scott Hall uses, and Wrath gets on the top rope to go after Bam Bam Bigelow. Wrath shows up and tosses Bigelow off the top rope, then Bigelow goes after Wrath. Disco takes advantage of a distracted referee to hand the stun gun to Scott Hall. Hall uses the stun gun on Bigelow to get the pinfall.

We see footage of Goldberg. The first time he laid hands on Kevin Nash, he knew he was a defeated man. He is not impressed with Kevin Nash, and says that Scott Hall is a loser. The person who really surprised him was Lex Luger, who put him in the Torture Rack. He says this may have been the biggest mistake of Luger's life. Now that he has his doctorate, class will be in session on Sunday, and he says not to be late.

It is reported that Bam Bam Bigelow has demanded a match with Wrath, and that WCW Executive Committee Chairman J.J. Dillon has made the match official for Souled Out.

"The Nature Boy" Ric Flair beats Curt Hennig by disqualification. During the match, Barry Windham shows up, but so does David Flair. When Hennig is dropped in front of David Flair near the end of the match, Windham attacks David from behind. Hennig gets back in the ring, and Windham attacks Flair to break the hold and end the match. After the match, Windham and Hennig continue to attack Ric, but avid trips them both, hands his father a chair, and the two of them run Hennig and Windham out of the ring.

We see Goldberg again. When he is finished, the only question that will be asked is "Who's left?" At Souled Out, Scott Hall will be first. He tells Scott Hall not to be late.

We see another performance by The Nitro Girls.

Kevin Nash beats The Giant, kicking The Giant out of the nWo. During the match, Scott Hall tries to get involved, but The Giant fights off both Hall and Nash. Nash is knocked out of the ring, but Nash pulls out a wrench - the same blue-handled wrench that Eric Bischoff used when he was setting up the ring - and smacks it into The Giant's face. After the match, Eric Bischoff shows up and says "The Titanic just sank," before proclaiming Kevin Nash "the nWo corporate giant." The rest of the nWo show up after the match as it is made clear that this was all a premeditated plan, and Scott Hall jabs The Giant with the stun gun. Hogan The nWo then spray paint "NWO 4 Life" in red and black spray paint to end the show.
