Raw Deal - Raw recap for January 11, 1999

RAW

D-Generation X ("Triple H" Hunter Hearst Helmsley, Chyna, X-Pac, "Road Dogg" Jesse James, "Bad Ass" Billy Gunn) show up to start the show, and bring out Mankind, who now has some new entrance music. WWF co-owners Vince and Shane McMahon are not happy as they watch from the dressing room, as Mankind says it is about time he got some new entrance music. The Rock is also seen backstage watching in the dressing room. Mankind says he is seen getting his ass kicked in just about every shot in his entrance video, but that's alright, because he takes a licking and keeps on ticking. Last week was without a doubt the greatest moment in his 15-year career, but he did not get there by himself. He tells the fans a story about how once a year for 10 or 11 years, he would call the WWF to offer his wrestling services only for his phone calls to never be returned, and years later, he got word that "Mick Foley did not look like a star." As the camera pans to a sign in the crowd saying "Mick Foley Put My A$$ In This Seat Tony," (a stab at World Championship Wrestling commentator Tony Schiavone spoiling the results to last week's WWF Championship match, widening the ratings gap between Raw and Nitro that week), he thanks one person who thought he was a star and kept after Vince McMahon 12 years later until he made his WWF debut, and that man is Jim Ross, whom he asks to get better soon as he wants to hear him call a Mankind championship match. Mankind also thanks D-Generation X for watching his back last week, and and also acknowledges and thanks "Stone Cold" Steve Austin for the chair shot he gave The Rock which ultimately gave Mankind the WWF Championship, before telling him he owes him one, and that as long as he is around, Austin has "one chance in Hell." While he has achieved his dream in becoming WWF Champion, he now wants to headline WrestleMania, and says WrestleMania would not be a WrestleMania without Austin in the main event, and wants to defend the title against him that night if Austin wins the Royal Rumble, due to the fact that he knows they could bring the house down in a championship match. The Rock, Vince and Shane show up, and Shane calls Mankind a disgrace to the WWF title. He also brings up the fact that D-Generation X has been helping him out as of late, and puts all the members in singles competition before announcing that Vince has made official a "Corporate Royal Rumble" where the members of DX take on the members of The Corporation, with the winner becoming the #30 entrant in the Royal Rumble Match. The Rock then takes the microphone and tells Mankind he is not a big shot like he is, and that he never beat him for the WWF Championship as he had to get help from "Stone Cold" Steve Austin. The Rock tells Austin that his day will come when they get in the ring and he lays the smackdown on his candy ass like he never felt before, then says that seeing Mankind with the WWF Championship makes him sick as he does not deem him worthy of being the champion, saying Mankind looks like what happened when a big monkey got in the middle of the ring and took a crap. The Rock says the people want and need him as WWF Champion - a man who is intelligent, articulate and handsome compared to Mankind. The Rock tells Mankind the least he could do is give him a shot at the title at Royal Rumble. Mankind says there is no third shot, as the Rock is simply not championship material. The Rock then says he wants it to be a no-disqualification match as well. Mankind tells him he smells what he is cooking, but it does not smell all that good, as he has been there and done that. The Rock then also asks for the match to be no count-out, but Mankind is still not sold. The Rock then guarantees that not a single member of The Corporation will be at ringside, but Mankind says The Rock is trying to check himself into the SmackDown Hotel on the corner of Know Your Role Boulevard and Jabroni Drive, and denies him the title shot yet again. The Rock then implies that Mankind has no testicular fortitude, telling him to stick Mr. Socko between his legs to feel that there is nothing there. Mankind says that one day he will pull out Mr. Socko, but on that day, Mr. Socko will go between The Rock's legs and get a good idea of what The Rock is cooking. The Rock then says that he quits at getting a WWF Championship match, which gives Mankind an idea. He accepts the match, and declares the match to be an "I Quit" match, and adds a couple of caveats: no disqualifications, no count-outs, no Corporation members at ringside, and no stopping the match for excessive blood loss as there will be plenty of it at Royal Rumble, no knock-outs, and no submission holds as he will beat the crap out of The Rock until he cannot take it anymore and says "I Quit." Vince then asks Mankind what makes him think he will be WWF Champion in two weeks' time, and makes him defend the WWF Championship tonight against Kane. Mankind tells Vince to remember one thing: he is WWF Champion until he is not, if he smells what "The Sock" is cooking.

"Stone Cold" Steve Austin is seen entering the building.

We see footage from earlier today where The New Age Outlaws ("Road Dogg" Jesse James and "Bad Ass" Billy Gunn) talk about Debra McMichael backstage, accusing each other of being easily distracted.

Owen Hart and Jeff Jarrett beat The New Age Outlaws ("Road Dogg" Jesse James and "Bad Ass" Billy Gunn). When distracting Billy Gunn does not work for Debra, Debra confronts Chyna, causing Billy Gunn to get between them only for Chyna to shove Debra while Owen Hart hits the spinning heel kick on Road Dogg for the win.

We see police officers and a WWF official outside of the locker room of "Gillberg."

We find out that that "Gillberg" is really Dwayne Gill mocking Goldberg. Not surprisingly, his entrance is now a parody of Goldberg's from World Championship Wrestling. The Gillberg chants are obviously piped in. When Gillberg shows up, the rest of The J.O.B. Squad (Bob Holly, The Blue Meanie, 2 Cold Scorpio) hold sparklers over his head, and Gillberg chokes on the smoke as he makes his way down the ramp. Gillberg's new entrance theme is also a parody of Goldberg's. Gillberg then takes the microphone and says "Gillberg doesn't want to know who's next. Gillberg wants to know...who's first?" His opponent ends up being Luna Vachon.

Luna Vachon - now without The Oddities - beats Gillberg, bringing . At one point, Gillberg goes for the Jackhammer, but Luna Vachon ends up falling on top of him for a near-fall. After the match, a fan gets in the ring and tries to hug Luna, but security quickly apprehends her. (This proves to be the same fan that charged at Sable a few weeks ago.)

It is announced that "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels will be operated on in the Heebner Medical Center by Dr. Vasquez tomorrow.

Dennis Knight shows up, telling Michael Cole and Jerry "The King" Lawler "he is here" as he rambles incoherently. The Acolytes (Faarooq and Bradshaw) show up and tell Dennis Knight "Come with us. He's waiting." It is noticeable that Dennis Knight's shirt is shredded and that a part of his hair is gray.

Val Venis shows up and says tonight's venue is the home to the Houston Rocket, and tells the laides that if they wrap their legs around this rocket, he'll be sure to launch straight into orbit. Val Venis then tries to turn a woman on in the front row when "The World's Most Dangerous Man" Ken Shamrock shows up and brutally attacks Venis from behind. Shamrock is seen yelling at the woman as he does, and tells Venis "You don't mess with my sister! Do you understand me?" As Shamrock leaves, "Bad Ass" Billy Gunn shows up and tells Shamrock "Maybe your sister liked [Val Venis], and she's damn sure gonna like this." He then pulls his tights down and moons Shamrock's sister, and Shamrock rushes back into the ring and clotheslines Gunn. Val Venis gets back in the ring to beat up Shamrock, but The Big Boss Man shows up and hits Venis with his nightstick. Shamrock tells Billy Gunn that if he wants a shot at the Intercontinental Championship at Royal Rumble after stalking him for weeks, he's got it, and tells him he should worry about leaving with his life, as he will put him down for good.

Mankind is seen talking with "Stone Cold" Steve Austin in the locker room.

X-Pac retains the WWF European Championship against Al Snow after Goldust shows up and hits Al Snow with Head. After the match, Al Snow goes after Goldust, but Goldust levels him with Head again.

WWF co-owner Vince McMahon tells Kane that if he wants to win the WWF Championship all by himself and without the assistance of anyone else in The Corporation, then he had better bring the WWF Championship back.

WAR ZONE

Mankind retains the WWF Championship against Kane when The Rock show up and pulls Kane off Mankind before hitting both men with a steel chair. "Stone Cold" Steve Austin shows up and confronts The Rock, and Mankind takes the steel chair away before Austin runs into the ring and forces The Rock to retreat. Mankind gives Austin the steel chair, but Austin drops it and gives both him and Kane the Stone Cold Stunner. Austin then chases The Rock up the entrance ramp.

WWF co-owner Vince McMahon confronts The Rock for his action. The Rock says he plans on making Mankind scream "I Quit" at Royal Rumble so he can take the WWF Championship back from him.

"Triple H" Hunter Hearst Helmsley beats Edge, then Gangrel and Edge show up and attack Triple H. The rest of D-Generation X (X-Pac, "Road Dogg" Jesse James, "Bad Ass" Billy Gunn) show up, but it is "Road Dogg" Jesse James who is the next recipient of a bloodbath by The Brood (Gangrel, Edge, Christian).

The chanting of Druids can be heard, and the symbol of The Undertaker. Dennis Knight is placed on a sacrificial altar, guarded by The Acolytes (Faarooq and Bradhsaw). Druids show up, and The Undertaker returns to his original theme music. and with Paul Bearer. The Undertaker sits on a throne that looks like his symbol. We hear a voice-over of The Undertaker saying that he has not been destroyed and that the simple minds of mortal men have sent him back to the place of his origin, and the more they try, the more powerful he becomes. He has now risen from his earthy grave, and he will slay the ones he once saved, as the reckoning is upon us and it is the day that The Ministry of Darkness seizes the land, destroys all that is held dear, make playthings of heroes and devour innocence. The plague of darkness is coming, an all-encompassing evil from which there is no escape, no mercy, no hope. It is the future, and in the future, he will look down upon thee and decide whether you are an agent of darkness or mere kindling for his fires, and only a chosen few will be agents. For those who resist, pain becomes synonymous with punishment. He wants those to embrace the darkness, and relish in the unearthy delights that pain has to offer, or else there are no limits to the torture they will be subjected to. He hopes that his agents will be few and secret, as they will rule over the many and known, for he is the ruler of mean, chaser of souls, weaver of nightmares and the heart of darkness. He will forever be the purity of evil, and Hell is no longer an option; it is a living, breathing reality, and everyone is in the building is in the middle of it as Hell has relocated to Earth. The Undertaker then gets up, heads to the altar and chants in tongues before slitting his wrist with a dagger and pouring his blood into a goblet. The Undertaker then tells Dennis Knight that from this point forward, he is now "Mideon," and makes him drink his blood. Dennis Knight then convulses as The Undertaker speaks in tongues again. He then exposes the chest of Dennis Knight, and carves his symbol into Knight's chest. The Undertaker then says everyone will know why they are afraid of the dark. Lightning strikes a nearby symbol of The Undertaker, setting it ablaze. Smoke then rises from the altar, and The Undertaker sits back on his throne as Dennis Knight, now Mideon, floats off the altar.

D'Lo Brown shows up with P.M.S. (Terri Runnels and Jacqueline) and apologizes for his actions, meaning that he did not mean to cause her harm and cause her to lose her baby due to a miscarriage, and says that he would do anything for her, but what she wants him to do right now is wrong and they both know it. Terri Runnels tells D'Lo Brown that he is a man of his word, and says he is going to do what they are about to do for that reason. We then learn that D'Lo Brown has to face "Sexual Chocolate" Mark Henry in a match. Henry is not even dressed for the match and turns his back on D'Lo. Jacqueline pushes D'Lo into Henry, then Terri hits Mark with a low blow. Chyna and Sammy show up, and Chyna shoves to the mat after Terrin Runnels retreats before checking on Mark Henry.

Chyna and Sammy tend to "Sexual Chocolate" Mark Henry backstage.

We see WWF co-owner Vince McMahon train in the snow for the Royal Rumble Match, and the training also involves chases after a chicken and punching meat in a butcher's shop.

WWF co-owner Shane guests on commentary for the next match.

Chyna - an unexpected participant - eliminates another unexpected participant, Vince McMahon to win the Corporate Royal Rumble Match and enter the real Royal Rumble Match at #30 this year. Pat Patterson and Gerald Brisco try to stop Chyna from getting in the ring, but she knocks both of them out as "Stone Cold" Steve Austin shows up and distracts Vince, allowing Chyna to toss Vince over the top rope and win the Corporate Rumble.
