Royal Rumble 1999 - The Results

The Big Boss Man beats "Road Dogg" Jesse James.

"The World's Most Dangerous Man" Ken Shamrock retains the WWF Intercontinental Championship against "Bad Ass" Billy Gunn with the ankle lock. During the match, Shamrock accidentally knocks down referee Tim White with a punch after Billy Gunn ducks it. Val Venis then shows up and hits Shamrock with a DDT after both men knock each other down, but Shamrock kicks out. After this, Gunn goes for a double axe handle only to roll his ankle, and Shamrock takes advantage with the Ankle Lock to retain.

Gerald Brisco, Pat Patterson and WWF co-owner Shane McMahon all get WWF co-owner Vince McMahon fired up.

X-Pac retains the WWF European Championship against Gangrel.

D-Generation X ("Triple H" Hunter Hearst Helmsley, Chyna, X-Pac, "Road Dogg" Jesse James) makes it clear that they want the $100,000 bounty, and that it is every man - and woman - for themselves in the Royal Rumble Match.

WWF co-owner Shane McMahon shows up, and introduces Luna Vachon before the next match. He then announces that Sable has suffered a chronic back injury, and asks her to come to the ring and forfeit the title. Sable shows up, and tells Shane to ring the bell. Shane then guests on commentary for the next match.

Despite Shane McMahon getting on the apron to distract the referee and cost Sable the match, Sable retains the WWF Women's Championship after the stalker from the audience gets on the apron and punches out Luna through the crowd before being chased through the crowd by security.

The Big Boss Man, Test and "The World's Most Dangerous Man" Ken Shamrock are seen talking about the Royal Rumble match and the $100,000 bounty on "Stone Cold" Steve Austin backstage.

Dok Hendrix interviews The Rock, who says he is not just another "roody-poo candyass" from the corner of Know Your Role Boulevard and Jabroni Drive, and he will guarantee that he is "The Great One" and the most electrifying man in sports entertainment when he makes Mankind say "I quit."

The Rock beats Mankind in an "I Quit" Match to become the WWF Champion! At one point in the match, The Rock and Mankind fight at the end of the stage, and The Rock sends Mankind into the electrical boards, causing the power in the arena to be lost in most of the arena. WWF co-owner Shane McMahon shows up and demands the match ends, but The Rock insists in making Mankind say "I quit." Shortly after this, The Rock handcuffs Mankind's hands behind his back, but even then Mankind continues to fight back. After multiple chair shots that bust Mankind's head open, The Rock makes Mankind say "I quit," but it is fairly obvious that it is an audio recording of Mankind from earlier in the night on Sunday Night Heat being played through the arena and not coming out of the microphone. Mankind is checked on by medical staff after the match, and Mankind proceeds to leave under his own power and even as he is placed on a stretcher. Meanwhile, The Rock has to be kept away from behind.

Vince McMahon wins the 1999 Royal Rumble, last eliminating "Stone Cold" Steve Austin. After Austin eliminates The Big Boss Man, Austin leaves the ring through the ropes and proceeds to beat up Vince outside of the ring. After getting Vince into the ring, he hits him with a Stone Cold Stunner. The Rock shows up and tries to get into the ring as he taunts and distracts Austin, and Vince takes advantage as soon as he comes to, tossing Austin over the top rope and costing Austin a shot at the WWF Championship at WrestleMania 15. After the match, The Rock and Austin brawl outside of the ring and take their brawl to the back as referees and The Corporation help Vince back to his feet. After Shane tells Vince he's going to WrestleMania, Vince asks for a couple of cold ones in a mockery of Austin, and Shane, Vince, Pat Patterson and Gerald Brisco all have beers in the ring. (This show is the introduction of Vince's theme song, "No Chance In Hell," which he will use for years to come. The theme song is an instrumental version, while the version that plays after Vince wins has vocals.)

During the match:

After "Stone Cold" Steve Austin eliminates Golga in mere seconds at the beginning of the Royal Rumble, Vince McMahon tries to escape through the crowd, but Austin chases him through the crowd, into the halls of the arena and into the women's restroom, where he is ambushed by "The World's Most Dangerous Man" Ken Shamrock and Test. (Vince and Austin leave through the ropes during the chase.) The camera returns to the ring, and some time later, it is revealed that Austin is laid out by the Corporation, and officials and referees check on him. EMT's bring out a stretcher, and Austin is placed on it and loaded out towards the ambulance outside of the arena.

Gillberg is eliminated by Edge in about ten seconds, and Gangrel is eliminated in seconds by "Road Dogg" Jesse James.

Mosh, who is supposed to be #11, is attacked by Mabel, who then proceeds to get into the match and eliminate five men. As Mabel fights with "Road Dogg" Jesse James, Mideon, Faarooq and Bradshaw attack Mabel and send him to The Undertaker and Paul Bearer. The Undertaker says something to Mabel, then Mideon, Faarooq and Bradshaw continue to beat up Mabel, who is now in some sort of trance. Later in the match, they beat up Mabel outside of the arena, and place him in the back of a hearse.

Kane shows up at #18 and immediately eliminates four men. Suddenly, the orderlies show up and Kane attacks them, and Kane eliminates himself by going over the top rope as he leaves the ring and chases the orderlies through the crowd.

Vince McMahon returns to the Royal Rumble Match as soon as "The World's Most Dangerous Man" Ken Shamrock shows up. He leaves through the ropes and allows Shamrock to be in the ring alone before joining in on commentary. He says he has done what he has set out to accomplished, as "Stone Cold" Steve Austin is in an ambulance and he is not coming back.

"Bad Ass" Billy Gunn enters at #19, despite having only one shoe on and a cast on his left foot.

After Mabel is placed in the back of a hearse, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin drives back to the arena in an ambulance and makes his way back to the ring. He comes out to The Big Boss Man's music, and Boss Man shows up soon after Austin gets in the ring while chasing after Vince.

Near the end of the match, Austin rolls out of the ring from under the bottom rope and drinks from a pitcher of ice water before splashing the water at Vince McMahon.

Chyna is the very first woman to enter the Royal Rumble, at #30. After eliminating "Sexual Chocolate" Mark Henry, she is eliminated by "Stone Cold" Steve Austin.
