Layin' da SmackDown - SmackDown recap for July 18, 2025

The show starts with a multi-car accident happening in front of the arena. Solo Sikoa and company is one of the parties. As Raw General Manager Adam Pearce is about to talk to the police, Cody Rhodes gets the contract for his match at SummerSlam from Pearce.

In footage from earlier today, Alexa Bliss is met by Charlotte Flair, who tells Alexa Bliss that she has gotten them another women's tag team title match from Raw General Manager Adam Pearce. She also asks Alexa to be in her corner for her match tonight.

Charlotte Flair beats Raquel Rodriguez after Alexa Bliss takes down Raquel at the ring apron as Charlotte knocks Roxanne Perez off the ring apron on the other side of the ring.

Backstage, Raw General Manager Adam Pearce finds out from the police that Jacob Fatu is a person of interest in the hit-and-run from earlier. Jacob Fatu is combative towards the police, and Pearce has to tell him to answer the questions so as not to make things worse.

We see a video package for Jade Cargill vs. Tiffany Stratton for the WWE Women's Championship at SummerSlam.

In backstage footage from earlier today, Damian Priest runs into Carmelo Hayes, who has not seen Aleister Black. When Carmelo talks back at Priest when Priest leaves, Priest returns, and says that when he finds Aleister, he will be on his knees begging for forgiveness. He also questions why he played peacemaker when he beats people up. Carmelo says that he will not have something to celebrate afterwards, and Priest takes that as a challenge.

Damian Priest beats Carmelo Hayes by disqualification after he is yanked off the top rope by Aleister Black. After the match, Aleister Black hits Damian Priest with Black Mass, and Carmelo Hayes rolls out of the ring before Aleister decides to attack him, too.

We hear from The Wyatt Sicks (Uncle Howdy, Erick Rowan, Joe Gacy, Dexter Lumis, Nikki Cross). Uncle Howdy says they are where they belong. Dexter Lumis says The Street Profits' (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford) bond is only held together by lust for gold. Erick Rowan says their family is forged through pain, not by the blood that they shed. Nikki Cross asks about they blood they have shed, and Joe Gacy says that they will strip all the tag team of their wicked desires. Uncle Howdy demands that The Wyatt Sicks be everyone's guide; all one has to do is follow.

Solo Sikoa, JC Mateo, Tala Tonga and Tonga Toa head to the ring. Solo says that tonight is the perfect example of who Jacob Fatu really is, as without his guidance, Jacob is reckless and does not care about or listen to anybody, and that all he cares about is himself. He says he gave Jacob the world and made him successful when he brought him into WWE, but he deserves none of it, for he is so selfish that he betrayed his only family, stating "once a criminal, always a criminal." All of a sudden, the police bring Jacob Fatu back to the arena. Jacob Fatu is told that the footage has been reviewed and that Jacob is no longer of interest, and that he is free to handle his business. As this goes on, Jimmy Uso is nearby. Tala Tonga clears off the announce desk, but he is taken out with a tope suicida by Jacob. Tala gets up behind Jacob's back, but Jimmy and Jacob double-team him. Jimmy then goes for Solo Sikoa, and Jimmy passes him a metal folding chair before keeping Solo from getting away. Jacob beats Solo up again, then grabs the chair and wraps it around Solo's neck. JC Mateo stops Jacob before he can go for the hip attack, and Solo is able to slip away as Jacob take down both JC Mateo and Tama Tonga. Jacob smacks both Tama and Tala with the chair, then Raw General Manager Adam Pearce shows up and punishes Solo Sikoa for trying to get Jacob Fatu locked up by making him defend the WWE United States Championship at SummerSlam in a steel cage match. Pearce then brings the police out, and Solo is handcuffed, arrested and taken to the back.

Stephanie Vaquer beats Alba Fyre. After the match, Piper Niven attacks Vaquer, but Vaquer fights back and knocks her out of the ring.

Cathy Kelley interviews The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford) and B-Fab. Montez says last week was a good week for The Wyatt Sicks (Joe Gacy and Dexter Lumis), and Angelo says they will quickly take back the WWE Tag Team Championships. As they talk about how they are not in tonight's Fatal 4-Way Tag Team Match to decide new #1 contenders, #DIY (Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa) and Candice LeRae show up and say The Street Profits blew it and did not have what it takes to keep the titles away from The Wyatt Sicks. Candice LeRae tells The Street Profits and B-Fab to watch, as they might learn something, much to B-Fab's irritation.

The team of Rey Fenix and Andrade beat #DIY (Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa), Fraxiom (Nathan Frazer and Axiom) and The Motor City Machine Guns (Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley) in a Fatal 4-Way Tag Team Match to become #1 contenders for the WWE Tag Team Champonships.

Raw General Manager moderates the official contract signing for "The American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes vs. John Cena for the WWE Championship at SummerSlam. Cody arrives first, then signs the contract. Cody thanks the fans in San Antonio, Texas for their warm reception, as his father and brother were both Texans, and addresses a recent social media post, saying he did not flinch during his many challenges since returning to WWE. He then says that he flinched at WrestleMania 41 against John Cena, and that it is an unenviable task to take the WWE Championship to take the title back from him, yet it is one that he was born for. He says it takes two for this dance to work, then Adam Pearce introduces John Cena to the ring. Cena announces that he is not going to be at SummerSlam, as he is filming a big movie for Netflix and he is physically exhausted, and that it is best that he not compete at SummerSlam, with their rematch coming at a later date. He says that he cannot, in good faith, sign the contract, because if he signs, he has to be at SummerSlam. He says that everyone has talked and has come to the conclusion that this is what is best for business. He says that it was hard enough just to get here tonight, much to the surprise of both Cody Rhodes and Adam Pearce, then Cena thanks the fans for their understanding, says goodbye and leaves. Cody chases Cena up the ramp and attacks him, but Cena fights back, grabs the WWE Championship and almost hits Cody for it only for Cody to fight back, take the title, and hit Cena with it. Cody then puts Cena on the table in the ring, grabs the contract as he goes up top, and splashes Cena through the table before putting a pen in Cena's hand and forcing him to sign it. He then tells Cena to check the fine print, as their match at SummerSlam is now a street fight.

Here are the highlights from tonight's show!
