Layin' da SmackDown - SmackDown recap for January 7, 2022

Roman Reigns heads to the ring to start tonight's show. Suddenly, Heyman and Lesnar show up, but as Heyman is about to introduces Lesnar, Lesnar sops Heyman and stares down Roman before introducing himself. Lesnar then jokingly tells Roman to acknowledge him before saying Roman has a lot to say all the time and that he does not, and that they both got what they wanted last Saturday before giving the fans what they want: title vs. title and champion vs. champion. Roman says it's a good idea, but not his idea, and that SmackDown is his show and that they do what he does on his time. He also says he does not do business with people who business with "trash like Paul Heyman." Heyman reminds Roman that he became Universal Champion and stayed champion that way, and that he loved him and protected him from Lesnar. Lesnar tells Heyman to shut up, but Roman tells him not to speak that way. When Roman verbally puts Lesnar down and Heyman tells Roman not to talk to Lesnar that way, Lesnar tells Heyman to shut up again only to get Superman Punched.

Backstage, Megan Morant interviews Sami Zayn, who says that Shinsuke Nakamura is ducking him and putting Rick Boogs - whom he calls "a gorilla with a guitar" - in his place. Suddenly, Sami Zayn sees Johnny Knoxville. Knoxville says he is meeting with management to get in the men's Royal Rumble Match, and Sami tells him that "this is not Jackass" and that he needs technical wrestling skills, and that he is not qualified for this. He then tells Knoxville to stay out of everybody else's way before heading to the ring.

Rick Boogs beats Sami Zayn with an inside cradle after Sami has a confrontation with Shinsuke Nakamura at ringside. After the match, Johnny Knoxville sneaks up on Sami Zayn and tosses him out of the ring. It is then announced that Knoxville has qualified for the men's Royal Rumble match.

Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviews The New Day (Sir Kofi Kingston and King Woods). King Woods says a match with no rules is par for the course for The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso), but when tonight's Street Fight is over, he and Kofi will stand tall as WWE SmackDown Tag Team Champions.

Charlotte Flair heads to the ring. Charlotte talks about new year's resolution before stating that hers was a little more ambitious: make history. She then says that the Royal Rumble match changes lives, then we see the line-up for the women's Royal Rumble match. Rhea Ripley, Nikki A.S.H., Shotzi, The Bella Twins (Brie and Nikki Bella), Natalya, Michelle McCool, Dana Brooke, Carmella, Queen Zelina, Mickie James, Tamina, Kelly Kelly, Aliyah, Summer Rae, Naomi, "The Queen of Spades" Shayna Baszler and Lita are all announced as competitors in the match. Charlotte says that this is an incredible list, then says she has someone very special that she will be announcing as another competitor and someone that everyone admires: herself. She says that she will be the first champion to enter the Royal Rumble and pick who she will defend the championship against, then Naomi shows up. Naomi says Charlotte does not have to wait until WrestleMania and put the title on the line against her right now, but Charlotte says Naomi has done nothing to deserve a title match against her. Naomi slaps her, then Charlotte runs at her only to get tossed out of the ring.

Charlotte Flair retains the WWE SmackDown Women's Championship against Naomi. During the match, WWE official Sonya Deville shows up to keep moving the goalposts for the match, making it so that the match cannot be won by count-out or disqualification and that the match can only be won by pinfall or submission. After the match, Sonya declares Naomi the loser of the match.

Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviews The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso). Jey says The New Day (Sir Kofi Kingston and King Woods) has a chance to be tag team champions and came up short, and that the same thing will happen tonight. Jimmy says if they want a street fight, they will find out why thy are "the ones."

Backstage, Adam Pearce meets with Sonya Deville, and says Roman Reigns does not have an opponent for Royal Rumble and that an opponent has to be found by the end of the night.

It's time for another edition of Happy Talk. Happy Corbin says he is here by himself after Drew McIntyre failed to watch his back and got attacked backstage. Corbin says the attack on McIntyre makes him incredibly happy and was worth getting fined for, then welcomes back McIntyre after saying that he is somehow here tonight despite potentially being out for months. McIntyre's theme hits, then Madcap Moss shows up with a cane in one hand, a rubber sword in the other and a brace around his neck. Madcap pretends to be McIntyre, he can survive anything after having eaten haggis, then says that Corbin would massacre him and that he would soil his pants, not that anyone would notice. He also says that he will use his injury to pursue poetry about the Loch Ness Monster and watercolor painting. After Madcap Moss reveals it was him all along, The Viking Raiders (Ivar and Erik) show up and chase Corbin and Moss out of the ring.

Happy Corbin and Madcap Moss beat The Viking Raiders (Ivar and Erik).

It is announced that Drew McIntyre suffered a cervical neck strain with severe contusions backstage at Day 1.

Backstage, Sheamus says nobody cares about Drew McIntyre and mentions Ridge Holland's injury at Day 1. He says he cannot help but feel responsible, but he knows Ridge will have a smile on his feet when he enters the men's Royal Rumble, wins the match and main events WrestleMania.

Backstage, Adam Pearce tells Roman Reigns that he has found an opponent for him at Royal Rumble, but Roman says it does not matter as he has smashed everyone on the roster. He then asks him to leave so he can watch The Usos' (Jimmy and Jey Uso) match.

The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso) retain the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championships against The New Day (Sir Kofi Kingston and King Woods) with a Dudley Death Drop - now known at the "1D" - in a Street Fight that also sees a Centurion's helmet and a knight's armor being used as weapons.

Backstage, Roman Reigns is met by Seth Rollins, who simply laughs.

This week on Talking Smack: Madcap Moss and Happy Corbin! The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso)! Naomi!
