Generation NXT - NXT recap for June 1, 2021

Pete Dunne vs. Johnny Gargano vs. Kyle O'Reilly in a Triple Threat Match ends in a no-contest after Adam Cole shows up and destroys all three men with a steel chair. General Manager William Regal shows up with two members of security, and demands that Adam Cole leave. Cole leaves the ring, but not before superkicking O'Reilly one last time, causing security to force Cole backstage.

After the commercial break, Adam Cole is forced out of the building as Ember Moon calls out Raquel Gonzalez after what happened to Shotzi Blackheart last week. Raquel shows up and forces her way past General Manager William Regal, but Ember Moon overpowers her. As security and Regal hold Raquel back, Ember Moon is suddenly attacked from behind by Dakota Kai. Dakota then leaves with Raquel. Regal then checks on Ember Moon.

We hear from Legado del Fantasma (Santos Escobar, Joaquim Wilde, Raul Mendoza). Santos Escobar says he will be there when Joaquim Wilde and Raul Mendoza win the tag team titles tonight. Mendoza says a warrior never backs gold, especially when the gold is the prize. Joaquim Wilde says that tonight will be their coronation, then Santos says it is time for Legado del Fantasma to do what they do best: take what is theirs.

LA Knight shows up and says that he will drop Jake Atlas on his head just like he did to Cameron Grimes last week and that he hopes "The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase is watching.

In footage from earlier today, Drake Maverick is surrounded by Ever-Rise (Chase Parker and Matt Martel) when Hit Row (Isaiah "Swerve" Scott, Ashante "Thee" Adonis, Top Dolla, B-Fab) shows up. Hit Row takes the three of them lightly, and Killian Dain jumps in when Swerve gets in Drake's face.

Jake Atlas beats LA Knight. During the match, "The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase shows up as LA Knight has the advantage in the match. Later on in the match, Cameron Grimes shows up and talks with Ted DiBiase. As he does, Jake Atlas starts gaining the momentum in the match. This distracts LA Knight as he goes up top with Jake Atlas, and Atlas hits a distracted LA Knight with the cartwheel DDT for the win. After the match, Ted DiBiase shakes his head as he heads to the back.

Backstage in the trainer's room, Oney Lorcan tries to stop the cameras from rolling, saying Pete Dunne would be #1 contender if not for Adam Cole, but Austin Theory shows up and says it would have been Johnny Gargano. Both men fight and security have to step in. Meanwhile, as McKenzie Mitchell interviews "The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase, Adam Cole heads back to the ring.

Poppy returns to NXT next week!

Adam Cole is in the ring. He says that two years ago, he became NXT Champion, and says that he is the real #1 contender for the NXT Championship after being gone for two months and watching everyone fail to live up to his legacy. He says that he took out three of NXT's biggest stars in one night and that he wants the NXT Championship back, then tells Karrion Kross that he sees right through him and that he is "a big overrated musclehead" who doesn't belong in the same ring as him. He says it was no mistake that he held the title for 483 days, then Karrion Kross and Scarlett show up. Kross tells Adam Cole his motives are understandable, and that whatever he does will not change the grand scheme of things, for when he showed up, Adam Cole was no longer special. Cole tells Kross he will never be him, and while NXT has done everything in their power to make Kross feel special, all NXT has to do make him special is ring the bell, for Kross could not lace his boots even on his best day and everyone knows that. He says that he is special, not Kross, and that Kross is just the guy who has his property. General Manager William Regal shows up and says he knows what Adam Cole is trying to do, but Kross tells him to shut up and says he wants Kyle O'Reilly, Johnny Gargano, Pete Dunne and Adam Cole. Kross calls Adam Cole "a gas station weasel" and tells him that he will not escape an ass-whipping. Regal says "Done." Adam Cole gets on the announce table and says he runs this show and always will.

Backstage, McKenzie Mitchell interviews The Way (Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell). Candice says that Poppy wants to be the next Bad Bunny and that Johnny Gargano will win the NXT Championship, then gets on Indi's case for listening to '80s power ballads as she removes Indi's headphones off her head and tells her to forget Dexter Lumis.

We get a closer look at Carmelo Hayes - formerly known as Christian Casanova - who will face KUSHIDA in his open challenge tonight.

We hear from Xia Li, who says that she will never forget her first WWE match ever against Mercedes Martinez in the Mae Young Clasic four years ago. She says that Martinez shamed her family and that she has wanted revenge. She says that at NXT TakeOver: In Your House, she wants to hurt Mercedes Martinez.

Backstage, Dexter Lumis finds Indi Hartwell's headphones and phone, which is still playing '80s power ballads. Dexter puts the headphones on and walks away.

KUSHIDA retains the NXT Cruiserweight Championship against Carmelo Hayes. During the match, it is announced that Cameron Grimes vs. LA Knight is official for NXT TakeOver: In Your House. Both men shake hands after the match.

Backstage, MSK (Nash Carter and Wes Lee) are ready to beat the brakes off Legado del Fantasma after their backhanded tactics and that they will stay NXT Tag Team Champions.

Backstage, Franky Monet reads the reviews for her NXT debut, then says she is just getting started.

The Way (Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell) beats Zoey Stark and Zayda Ramier.

We hear from Mercedes Martinez, who says she has been a marked women her whole career, and while Xia Li is badass and dangerous, so is she, and while she may be standing in the way of Xia Li's destiny, Xia Li is standing in her way to the NXT Women's Championship. Martinez then says that she will run through Xia Li at NXT TakeOver: In Your House.

We see another vignette for Diamond Mine, which is "opening soon."

Backstage, McKenzie Mitchell interviews Ember Moon, who says that she is livid that Raquel Gonzalez has Dakota Kai fight her battles for her despite being one of NXT's most dominant champions. She plans to beat Dakota Kai next week before beating Raquel for the NXT Women's Championship.

MSK (Nash Carter and Wes Lee) retain the NXT Tag Team Championships against Legado del Fantasma (Joaquim Wilde and Raul Mendoza) when Bronson Reed shows up and squashes Santos Escobar against the barricade after Escobar throws Wes Lee into the steel steps, nearly costing MSK the match and the titles.

Here are the top ten moments from tonight's show!
