Layin' da SmackDown - SmackDown Live recap for April 10, 2018

Commissioner Shane McMahon shows up to start tonight's show. Shane thanks the fans for being part of the greatest live event in history and making WrestleMania a huge success. The crowd reacts with a "Thank you, Shane!" chant. Shane says he has been fortunate and has a lot of WrestleMania events, but he says that this year was especially great due to the return of General Manager Daniel Bryan to in-ring competition. He not only had the opportunity to team up with him, he also won with him and kept Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn off SmackDown Live, and says everyone can agree that seeing Daniel in the ring was magical and that he was born to do this. Shane then says Daniel has successfully crossed over to becoming a full-time competitor, and that he has accepted Daniel Bryan's resignation as General Manager. He then says that one door has closed, but another has opened, and he introduces the new General Manager: Paige, who announced her retirement from in-ring competition last night. (With this, she is no longer part of Absolution with Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville.) Paige talks about her retirement speech from last night on Raw, and how Shane was the first person she saw waiting for her. She thanks Shane for the opportunity as the crowd chants "This is your house!", then talks about the Superstar Shake-up, and says she wants to make tonight special for all the fans. Paige then talks about Daniel Bryan, and says he has not participated in a match on television in three years. She asks if anyone wants to see Daniel wrestle tonight, then after much suspense and a few fan chants, announces Daniel Bryan will face "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles.

The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso) beat The New Day (Big E and Xavier Woods) to face The Bludgeon Brothers (Harper and Rowan) for the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championships at Greatest Royal Rumble. After the match, The Bludgeon Brothers show up and point their hammers at them.

The new commercial for Make-A-Wish starring John Cena is replayed.

We see footage from earlier today where Dasha Fuentes interviews Naomi. Suddenly, Natalya shows up and says Naomi was the least favorite pick to win and that her WrestleMania Women's Battle Royal victory was "disappointment of the night." Natalya says she cannot wait for Naomi to be sent to Raw, but Naomi takes that as a challenge to a match, which she accepts.

Naomi beats Natalya.

Renee Young interviews "The Artist" Shinsuke Nakamura, who says he does not know what came over him and that maybe he was too emotional. He sarcastically says he is sorry for attacking "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles. When Renee asks him why he attacked Styles, Nakamura simply says "Sorry...no speak English."

Charlotte Flair shows up. Charlotte says that she faced the toughest challenge in her career Sunday, and that she worked harder and dug deeper than she ever thought possible. She thanks Asuka for that. Charlotte then announces she still left as SmackDown Women's Champion, then says she and Asuka left every ounce of energy and emotion in the stadium that night, which she says was special and magical. She then asks who she will make magic with next. Suddenly, Billie Kay and Peyton Royce show up, fresh out of NXT. Peyton says she has heard Charlotte wants to make some magic, and she says she and Billie can make the Women's title disappear from her waist. Billie and Peyton introduce themselves, then give credit where credit was due. They admit the match was good, but not iconic, and says nobody wants to hear her talk. Peyton proceeds to mock Charlotte Flair, then Billie tells Charlotte to stop talking about the past when she is looking at the future. Peyton says it is out with the old and in with "The IIconics." Charlotte tries to fight Billie and Peyton, but the numbers game proves too much. After whips into the ring post and the steel steps as well as a two-woman powerbomb, The Iconics drag Charlotte to the center of the ring to make a statement to the rest of the division. Referees then tell Billie and Peyton to get out of the ring. All of a sudden, as Billie and Peyton leave, Carmella runs in with the Money In The Bank Briefcase and cashes in. After hesitation from the referee, the briefcase is cashed in. The bell ring, and Carmella meets Charlotte with a kick to the face to become the WWE SmackDown Women's Champion.

Jinder Mahal and Sunil Singh sit at ringside for the next match.

Randy Orton beats Rusev and Bobby Roode in a Triple Threat Match to face Jinder Mahal for the WWE United States Championship at Backlash.

Dasha Fuentes interviews Carmella. She says that when a queen overstays her welcome, there is always a princess waiting to end her reign. She waited for 287 days for the right time to cash in, and now she is WWE SmackDown Women's Champion. She then gives herself a huge thank-you for making history again all on her own, despite Billie Kay and Peyton Royce being involved, and says that "'Mella is money" and ""Mella's got the gold."

Renee Young interviews "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles, who considers putting his fist down "The Artist" Shinsuke Nakamura's throat. Tonight, however, he will be facing Daniel Bryan, and while he says his accomplishments are great, he is not phenomenal.

Daniel Bryan vs. "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles ends with "The Artist" Shinsuke Nakamura attacking both men. After the match, Nakamura hits Styles with multiple low blows.
