Layin' da SmackDown - SmackDown Live recap for October 17, 2017

General Manager Daniel Bryan shows up to start tonight's show. D-Bry announces a six woman match with Natalya, Tamina and Lana vs. Naomi, Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair. There will also be an announcement from WWE Champion Jinder Mahal. Also, Dolph Ziggler will face Bobby Roode in a rematch from Hell In A Cell. Speaking of which, someone's actions from that night disappointed him, and that someone is Sami Zayn. Daniel Bryan does not get to speak for much longer when Sami Zayn shows up. Daniel Bryan questions if the Sami Zayn in front of him, smiling and dancing, is the same man he knew for 13 years. Sami Zayn says he is the same guy, and says he took ownership of his career back. He asks if that makes him a bad guy. He understands if the fans would think that, but he thought Daniel Bryan would understand. Daniel Bryan says he's been in his shoes, but Sami Zayn says they are not the same, as the biggest difference between him and Daniel is that Daniel had the fans. Sami states that the fans are why Daniel Bryan reached the heights he did, but when it came to his career, that didn't happen. Sami Zayn he does not care what the fans think of him anymore, and says it feels amazing. Sami tells Daniel that if he let go of what the fans thought, he would be as happy as he is now and he wouldn't have had to retire. This leads to "Sami sucks!" chants. Sami laughs them off, and says He says it broke his heart more than it did the fans, as Daniel Bryan was "the performer of our generation." He used to try to keep up with his career, which was always two steps ahead, but now Daniel is the last man he wants to emulate. He also goes on to say that Daniel Bryan now has a martyr complex and has turned into a housewife, then Kevin Owens shows up. Owens says he is happy for Sami, having seen the light and listened to what he had to say. He agrees with some of his points, especially the "housewife" and martyr complex points, and says Daniel Bryan has become what he has fought against. After Owens says Daniel Bryan is a hypocrite, Daniel Bryan says he can see through Owens and that Owens only cares for himself. He says Owens resents him because he does what's best for the fans, but Owens says D-Bry is doing what is "best for business." Owens then says that this is proof that Daniel Bryan is "The Authority." Sami Zayn says Owens is right, and calls Daniel Bryan "a sell-out." Sami thanks Owens for opening his eyes, as that is what he could have become. Owens and Sami then hug. Daniel Bryan heads to the back, but Owens says heading to the back is the best Daniel has nowadays. Daniel Bryan then tells Owens and Sami that he is going to the back "to find a couple of dudes who will punch you in the face."

Carmella and James Ellsworth guest on commentary for the next match.

Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch and Naomi beat Natalya, Tamina and Lana. After the match, Natalya pushes Charlotte into the commentary table and grabs a steel chair, but Charlotte boots it out of Natalya's hands and chases her into the crowd.

General Manager Daniel Bryan runs into Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. They find out they are facing Randy Orton and "The Artist" Shinsuke Nakamura tonight.

It's time for Pulp Fashion. Fandango interrogates The Ascension (Konnor and Viktor). Tyler Breeze is dancing. They all talk about the hamburger and fries. As The Ascension mention that "2B" are the Bludgeon Brothers (Luke Harper and Erick Rowan), Breeze falls victim to a pickle allergy. The Ascension help on the condition that Breezango (Tyler Breeze and Fandango) become their friends. Breeze wakes up. It turns out there is no pickle allergy and that the bun was disgusting, because it is gluten-free. Suddenly, the nearby briefcase is found to be missing. The Ascension want to assemble the Fashion Force. Breezango walk away.

Before the next match, Baron Corbin asks the fans if they want to see him defend the United States title. He then says that's too bad, as the only opportunities he cares about are his own. Corbin then states that the US Open Challenge is closed...for good.

Sin Cara beats Baron Corbin by count-out after Sin Cara hits a high-flying cross body from the top of the ring post to the outside.

Renee Young interviews The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso). They have been hot since the brand split began, and they are feeling really good. Suddenly, Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin show up. After some brief rapping, they make it clear they will be the next champs. Shelton and Gable then offer a handshake. When The Usos go for it, they pull their hands back.

We see another vignette for The Bludgeon Brothers (Luke Harper and Erick Rowan).

We see footage from earlier this week where Jinder Mahal had his homecoming in Mumbai and New Delhi, India.

Jinder Mahal and The Singh Brothers (Sunil and Samir Singh) show up. Jinder says there are some things you can only experience when you are the Modern Day Maharaja. Last week, he took the WWE Championship to India, and was given a true hero's welcome. He got the best hotels, the finest restaurants, and on the last day, a young child asked him what is next for him. He has beaten the best SmackDown has to offer, but he does not have the same level of respect in America as he does in India. Mahal then says he must beat the most dominant force in WWE. At Survivor Series, he is challenging Brock Lesnar. When he proves The Beast can be slayed, he wants everyone to bow down and kiss his feet. He will show to the people the greatness that is in front of him, and he will become the greatest WWE Champion of all time. Suddenly, "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles shows up. Styles reminds Mahal that he has yet to beat him. Mahal admits Styles is correct, but he insists there is no worthy competition on SmackDown Live, and calls Styles a loser. Styles then asks that if he is a loser, then Jinder has no problem defending the WWE title against him. Jinder says Styles is not worthy of being in the same ring as him in India. Styles tells him they're not in India. He says Styles is at the back of the line, and that he is delusional for challenging him for the WWE Championship. Jinder unbuttons his suit as he asks Styles if he knows who he is. Styles immediately throws fisticuffs and comes out on top. Jinder and The Singh Brothers retreat.

Backstage, Jinder Mahal tells General Manager Daniel Bryan about what has happened with AJ Styles. After Daniel Bryan asks Jinder what he's going to do, Jinder says Sunil Singh will challenge AJ Styles. Daniel says this is a phenomenal idea, and makes the match official for next week.

Dolph Ziggler beats Bobby Roode after grabbing the tights during a schoolboy pin.

Next week on Raw: Brock Lesnar responds to Jinder Mahal's challenge.

Aiden English is singing backstage when he encounters two men working out how to do something on a cellphone. He says that they wouldn't be on their phone for Shakespeare, and asks why they would be on the phone for him. When he asks who is up to their musical standards, The New Day (Kofi Kingston, Big E, Xavier Woods) suddenly busts in, dancing around, throwing cereal and playing trombone. Suddenly, Rusev shows up and says it is not a new day; instead, it is Rusev Day. Xavier Woods celebrates by playing his entrance theme on trombone as the New Day craziness continues, then The New Day leaves. Aiden English tries to leave again, but Rusev is no longer in the mood for it.

Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn beat "The Artist" Shinsuke Nakamura and Randy Orton after Sami Zayn hits Orton with a blatant low blow as referee Charles Robinson is dealing with Kevin Owens. After the match, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn laugh at General Manager Daniel Bryan at gorilla position. When Sami Zayn asks what he is going to do next week, he says it's not up to him; it's up to Commissioner Shane McMahon. Afterwards, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn celebrate on the stage, saying they are the best. Owens say they are SmackDown Live, and there is nothing anybody can do about it.

Here are the top 10 moments from tonight's show!
