Nitro-Glycerin - Monday Nitro recap for February 1, 1999

The show starts with footage from earlier today where Curt Hennig and Barry Windham, who are in the tag team tournament, enter the arena. Hennig talks about his plans to take the tag titles so he can get one step closer to The Outsiders (Kevin Nash and Scott Hall) in revenge for the beatdown that the nWo gave him last week.

We see footage from earlier today of The Nitro Girls rehearsing their dance numbers when Scott Steiner shows up and tries to put her hands on Kimberly. As Kimberly forces herself off Steiner, she trips over AC Jazz and is knocked unconscious.

"Mean" Gene Okerlund interviews Konnan and Rey Mysterio Jr. Rey says that Lex Luger has a potential issue with him, trying to take his Latino World Order shirt from him and later his mask with the help of Kevin Nash. He watched Luger and Nash as a kid and has much love and respect even when he was breaking into WCW, but they made a big mistake when they gave all their knowledge to Konnan, and if has to get his respect by taking Luger down, he will do it. Konnan knows that Luger and Nash attacked Rey to get back at him, and he and Rey plan to make Nash and Luger bow down. Rey challenges Luger and Nash to a Lucha de Apuestas match where masks, hair, or careers can be put on the line. Konnan feels sorry for Nash and Luger now, because they used to be stand-up guys, but now "they have to sit down in the bathroom to take aim."

The black-and-white nWo are at the airport, and all the rental cars have been taken. Stevie Ray suddenly gets everyone hooked up with a limousine. Vincent fails to get a ride at the limo for repeatedly dropping the ball for the nWo black-and-white, and he ends up calling Kevin Nash for a ride. Nash shows up very quickly, and Vincent ends up getting a ride in his limo.

We see a performance by The Nitro Girls. Kimberly is not there due to what happened earlier today.

WCW President "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair puts Eric Bischoff in a nearby dunk tank, and every employee he has slighted will be throwing balls at the target to dunk him in.

The team of Curt Hennig and Barry Windham beat The Four Horsemen ("The Crippler" Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko). Hennig and Windham stay in the winner's bracket, while Benoit and Malenko are in the loser's bracket. During the match, suspended referee Scott Dickinson is seen in the front row.

WCW Executive Committee Chairman J.J. Dillon and numerous WCW wrestlers are seen dunking Eric Bischoff in the dunk tank.

Stevie Ray complains to Kevin Nash about Vincent not having anything ready, but both the black-and-white and black-and-red sides get along after Scott Norton says "Why can't we be friends?"

The black-and-white nWo head to their locker room and come across some female companionship.

"Mean" Gene Okerlund interviews WCW President "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair. Flair talks about how Eric Bischoff used to be a little abusive towards WCW employees, and says he will be wet all night long as a line of employees a mile long are dunking him in a dunk tank outside of the arena. He then makes it clear to Hollywood Hogan that the internal mechanism of the nWo is falling apart, as everyone is starting to fall by the wayside and doing their own thing while WCW is stronger than ever. Even though Hogan has failed to make it to the arena in person, he would not miss the opportunity to hear that at SuperBrawl IX, he will be wrestling again and will be wrestling him as past legends have made him ready to become a world champion and tie him into a knot. That night, Flair will do or he will die. As for Bret "The Hit Man" Hart, he will be defending the WCW United States Heavyweight Championship against "The Crippler" Chris Benoit at SuperBrawl IX whether he likes it or not, and that Benoit will be taking the United States title back for WCW. Suddenly, Scott Hall shows up with Disco Inferno, and Hall says that while Flair may be president of WCW, everyone here came to see the nWo, and while he may be able to boss Bischoff around, he doesn't tell him what to do. Hall wants to know why Benoit is #1 contender, when he is the one who took the World title off Goldberg and beat Bam Bam Bigelow. Flair calls him "one-half of a fantasy world called 'Hall and Nash,' and that he does not see one person saying "Hey, yo." Hall tells Flair he is putting his money behind a loser, and says he could prove why he is #1 contender material, but Benoit does not have the guts to come out here. Benoit shows up, and Flair tells Hall to leave before he breaks the toothpick out of his mouth. Benoit gets in the ring and tells Hall they'll find out how much guts he has when he introduces his foot to his brown eye. Hall throws a toothpick at Benoit, and Benoit slaps hall before Flair beats up Disco Inferno. Flair then tells Hall that if he wants a match with Benoit, he's got it tonight.

Van Hammer beats Kenny Kaos. During the match, it is announced that All Japan Pro Wrestling Shohei Baba aka Giant Baba has passed away last night in Tokyo, Japan at the age of 61. Also during the match, suspended referee Scott Dickinson is seen in the front row again, and he quickly leaves. Shortly after this, The Sandman shows up wrapped in barbed wire while carrying a Singapore cane, and attacks Van Hammer after he wins, and says it ticks him off when someone comes out to the ring in WCW and tries to take credit for his work. He says he was the first man to replace the ropes with barbed wire, the first man to wrap barbed wire around a baseball bat and crush someone's head with it, and the first man to wrap himself in barbed wire and leap onto somebody. If Bam Bam Bigelow thinks he is hardcore, then he is the king of extreme. He has seen what Bigelow has been doing as of late, and says he will not leave until Bigelow gets out here.

After the commercial break, Bam Bam Bigelow shows up and answers The Sandman's challenge.

Bam Bam Bigelow beats The Sandman in an impromptu hardcore match after sending Sandman into barbed wire that the Sandman has set up in the corner before hitting him with Greetings From Asbury Park on a steel chair.

At the dunk tank outside of the arena, one of the cameraman tries his luck at dunking Eric Bischoff.

Miss Elizabeth thanks Lex Luger and Kevin Nash for re-uniting the New World Order into one unit. Luger says he is elated to be on board, and tells Elizabeth it took a woman's touch to keep the WCW World Heavyweight Championship off Goldberg. They then proceed to make fun of Goldberg's weaknesses as he brags about how the nWo attacked Goldberg a month ago.

We see another performance by The Nitro Girls.

Suspended referee Scott Dickinson is seen dunking Eric Bischoff at the dunk tank.

Kidman is seen talking to Diamond Dallas Page about what happened to Kimberly backstage. DDP storms into the nWo locker room and demands where Scott Steiner is, and tells them that they had better pray to God that Kimberly is all right. Scott Steiner comes out of a nearby door after Page leaves, and says that he never touched Kimberly and that she slipped. He does say, however, that he may be looking for these. We then see what looks like a Nitro Girls outfit in his hands before a woman's hand comes out of the door and takes them. Scott Steiner then says "I'd like to stick around, but I'll be back" and follows him in the room, which is implied to be a shower. Kevin Nash tells Vincent to send a message to DDP that Scott Steiner has no problem with whatever he wants, and to slap DDP in the mouth, saying that it will be the cue for the nWo to help him. Vincent then leaves the room and tells Disco Inferno to do his dirty work. DDP is then seen getting in the ring, calling out Scott Steiner. DDP gets Disco Inferno instead, and tells him that Scott Steiner will accept his challenge for SuperBrawl IX. He slaps him, but the nWo do not show up as Vincent promised and Disco Inferno immediately eats a Diamond Cutter before having his nWo black-and-red shirt ripped off. When Vincent comes back to the locker room, he is commended for "getting smart." DDP is then seen leaving the arena.

WCW/nWo Thunder is now available on Sony PlayStation from WCW Merchandise! Just $49.95 plus $7.95 shipping and handling!

Kidman retains the WCW Cruiserweight Championship against Lash LeRoux.

Bobby "The Brain" Heenan is seen dunking Eric Bischoff into the dunk tank with the old bait-and-switch.

Hollywood Hogan is seen in a limo talking with Chuck Zito, president of the Hells Angels in New York state.

"Mean" Gene Okerlund interviews Booker T backstage. Booker T talks about his torn ACL from last year and how he took three-and-a-half months off and how he must re-focus after last week's match against Bret "The Hit Man" Hart. At SuperBrawl IX, he has a match with Disco Inferno, and that he will raise the roof that night.

Before the next match, Scott Steiner tells Diamond Dallas Page that the last time they fought, there was the stipulation that if he won, he would show Kimberly what it is like to be with a real man, but that DDP suddenly has a problem with it. He then says that Kimberly liked that stipulation, as she is in the back asking him why all the women say there is nothing finer than Scott Steiner. He tells DDP to step aside and let nature take its course, and let his body rock his wife's body until she says who her daddy is, as he will fulfill all her fantasies in one night.

Before the next match, Chris Jericho sends Ralphus to the back.

Scott Steiner retains the WCW World Television Championship against Chris Jericho. During the match, Chris Jericho tries to retreat, but Saturn catches up with him and hits him before throwing him back into the ring, where Scott Steiner makes Jericho tap to the Steiner Recliner.

Kevin Nash, Lex Luger and Miss Elizabeth show up. Luger admits he had to chuckle a little bit when Konnan and Rey Mysterio Jr. challenged him and Nash. Nash cannot believe they have the nerve to add stipulations to the match, such as putting Rey's mask on the line against their hair. Nash says they will accept the match on the pretense that if he or Lex is pinned, Miss Elizabeth will lose her hair. Miss Elizabeth is shocked, but Luger says they have this under control. Nash then officially accepts the match for Rey's mask vs. Miss Elizabeth's hair for SuperBrawl IX.

Before the next match, Ernest "The Cat" Miller and Sonny Onoo threaten ring announcer David Penzer, who announces that Miller would like to be refereed from this point forward as "The Greatest Of All Time." Miller then demands an opponent. We then see the nWo in their locker room, telling Scott Norton that The Cat has called him out, even though he has never specifically done so, and send Scott Norton after The Cat. Norton eventually makes it into the ring, and The Cat says he was not calling him out to the ring. He admits that Norton is big and tough, but so is he, and if he wants to go at it with him, he will tear him up.

Scott Norton beats Ernest "The Cat" Miller, even when Miller tosses Sonny Onoo into Norton as a diversionary tactic.

We see another performance by The Nitro Girls.

"Mean" Gene Okerlund interviews Goldberg. He says what is in the past is in the past, and that he has forgotten about it. He then tells Bam Bam Bigelow to look into his eyes and see if he sees a little hint of fear, as he will never find it. Bam Bam Bigelow may talk the talk, but he walks the walk. He says that Bigelow calls himself "extreme" and The Beast From The East, but as far as he is concerned, the only thing Bigelow is is next.

WCW President "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair and Dean Malenko take turns dunking Eric Bischoff in the dunk tank. Bischoff insists that he will have the last laugh tonight.

Bret "The Hit Man" Hart replaces Mike Tenay on commentary for the next match. (Before the match, ring announcer Michael Buffer accidentally calls him Bret "The Hit Man" Clark.)

Scott Hall beats "The Crippler" Chris Benoit to face Bret "The Hit Man" Hart for the WCW United States Championship at SuperBrawl IX. During the match, Disco Inferno tries to get involved by dragging Benoit out of the ring, but Steve "Mongo" McMichael shows up and attacks Disco before ripping his Wolfpac shirt off, beating him up and taking him to the back. Mongo then sends Disco into a locker room, where "The Enforcer" Arn Anderson lies in wait with a tire iron. Also, Kevin Nash gets involved, but this serves as a distraction so that Hall can put Benoit in the Outsider's Edge after Benoit knocks Nash off the apron.

We see Hollywood Hogan with Chuck Zito in the limousine again. It is then revealed that Hogan and Zito are in Charlotte, North Carolina to attack David Flair. "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair and Dean Malenko are seeing this unfold on a television screen, as does Arn Anderson. The camera is shut off on Hogan's end before the attack takes place, and the show ends.
