Collision Course - Collision recap for August 5, 2023

We hear from CM Punk, "Absolute" Ricky Starks, Prince Nana, Big Bill, "The Machine" Brian Cage, and FTR (Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler).

FTR (Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler) retain the AEW World Tag Team Championships against "The Machine" Brian Cage and Big Bill. After the match, Dax Harwood talks about how he and Wheeler started a legacy ten years ago and worked their way to become the best tag team of all time with ten world tag team titles, and how they had to complete the legacy with the AEW World Tag Team Championships. He then says there is one thing left for FTR to do, and it is to finish their unfinished business with The Young Bucks (Matt and Nick Jackson) at All In.

Backstage, Tony Schiavone interviews "Rock Hard" Juice Robinson, who has a cardboard stand-in of "Switchblade" Jay White with him as he says Bullet Club Gold (Jay White, Juice Robinson, Austin Gunn, Colten Gunn) is "hotter than hell." The real Jay White shows up and chops his cardboard stand-in and says that will happen to Metalik tonight and that The Gunns (Austin and Colten Gunn) are a couple of top guns as The Gunns show up and mock Schiavone's commentary. Jay White then says that when Bullet Club Gold has fun, it is not fun for others.

Kris Statlander retains the TBS Championship against Mercedes Martinez after avoiding the Brass City Statlander. After the match, Mercedes attacks Statlander, then Diamanate runs to the ring and confronts Mercedes before joining in. Suddenly, Willow Nightingale runs into the ring and chases Mercedes and Diamante away.

Backstage, Tony Schiavone interviews Toni Storm. Storm says he is standing here naked as the day she was born, then goes off on Schiavone as she asks if she any less of a star without her title and says that she is world renowned for everything she has ever done.

Samoa Joe quickly beats Serpentico in mere seconds with the rear naked choke. After the match, Joe calls himself "the one true king of television" and states that he has a few problems, one of them being that he has no opponent at All In. He then states that this leads into another problem, for a "real world champion" telling people he was the best in the world who could never beat him a day in his life ended up beating him in the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament, and that a roll-up is not good enough for their legacy. Samoa Joe then demands that CM Punk give him and the fans what he and they want and give their legacy what it deserves, with the eyes of the world upon them giving the world everything that they have. He then says that his courtesy only extends to this week, and if Punk makes him wait until next week, he will convince Punk himself.

We see a video package of Andrade el Idolo getting his mask back in his recent ladder match.

In backstage footage, Tony Schiavone interviews The Acclaimed ("Platinum" Max Caster and Anthony Bowens). Bowens says they have spoken with "Daddy Ass" Billy Gunn last week, saying Daddy Ass has refused his boots back and insists that he is retired, as it is his fault that they lost the tag team titles and that he was pinned by Malakai Black twice. Max Caster says he wants to respect Billy Gunn's decision, but he has given them so much. Bowens says that they have unfinished business with getting him to the top of the trios division and feels that they failed him, and hopes that Billy Gunn is watching, as he hopes that Billy knows how much he means to them when he saw something in them as they were trying to find themselves in AEW and prove they were elite, and says that they will miss him and that he knows how much they and the fans love him.

The House of Black (Malakai Black, Brody King, Buddy Matthews) retain the AEW World Trios Championships against Darius Martin, Action Andretti and "Big Shotty" Lee Johnson. The Dealer's Choice rule is that Julia Hart is banned from ringside.

Backstage, Tony Schiavone interviews Powerhouse Hobbs when QT Marshall and Harley Cameron try to make it up to Hobbs with a gold necklace from Cuba as well as his biggest win at All Out. Hobbs says he does not want or need Marshall's help before thanking him for the gold.

Backstage, Tony Schiavone interviews Christian Cage and Luchasaurs. Christian says he has brought his own daughter to prove that as the face of TNT, he is the role model for children everywhere. He then says that Darby Allin is mentioring "a snot-nosed child" who has no business in his ring, then Christan's daughter asks if she can have the TNT Championship before Christian tells her that she did not win this belt and to go find her mother.

The Gunns (Austin and Colten Gunn) guest on commentary for the next match.

"Switchblade" Jay White beats Metalik.

We hear from Anna Jay, who calls Hikaru Shida her first taste of AEW, and says that she was just a rookie then and Shida took advantage of her. She then says that the second time she fought Shida, she was the champion, and she came close to beating her for her title until Shida took advantage of her again. Anna then says that she is a rookie no more, and while she has a lot on her plate, she will beat Shida to become Women's World Champion.

Jim Ross guests on commentary for tonight's main event.

CM Punk retains the "Real World Championship" against "Absolute" Ricky Starks after the referee goes down and special guest enforcer Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat has to make the count after Punk rolls Stark up. After the match, Starks shoves Steamboat into Punk and whips Steamboat with his own belt, and Punk has to chase Starks out of the ring with a chair to get him to stop. Afterwards, Steamboat is helped out of the ring.
