Generation NXT - NXT recap for August 12, 2020

Karrion Kross beats Danny Burch with the Kross Jacket. After the match, Keith Lee shows up with a contract in his hand, and Kross and Scarlet leave the ring. Keith Lee says he is not surprised, and says that Kross has denied a shot with him and proved he was "a little bitch." Lee says that he has worked with General Manager William Regal and promised not to lay a hand on Kross until their match, and says that his and Regal's names are on the contract and that all it needs now is Kross'. Scarlett takes the contract and allows Kross to sign it. After Kross signs, Scarlett kisses the contract, then passes it to Keith Lee. Lee stands there at first, then picks up the contract, but when he opens it, he is suddenly blinded by a fireball. Referees and medical staff run into the ring to check on Keith Lee, then help him to the back.

As Keith Lee is helped into an ambulance which soon drives off, The Undisputed Era (Adam Cole, Bobby Fish, Kyle O'Reilly, Roderick Strong) shows up at the arena. They run into the ring and attack Drake Maverick and Killian Dain as they are having a match, then Adam Cole calls out Pat McAfee, saying that if he wants to come into his world, play wrestler and talk trash on social media, that is fine, but punting him does not make him special. He then says that at NXT TakeOver: XXX, Cole tells McAfee he will take on "that guy," then dares him to come out to the ring next week so he can tell him he will "whup that ass" as McAfee finds out that he is in way over his head at TakeOver.

We hear from KUSHIDA, who says that he has a shot at the North American Championship and that regardless of who his mystery opponent is, he will win his ladder match and become champion.

Santos Escobar beats Tyler Breeze following the distraction by Raul Mendoza and Joaquin Wilde. After the match, Fandango - now in a sling - shows up, snaps the head off a broom and attacks Wilde and Mendoza only to be overpowered by Escobar. Isaiah "Swerve" Scott shows up to make the save.

We hear from Dakota Kai, who states that Io Shirai has been put on a pedestal, and that she knows how to beat her. She says the best part of success is getting into your opponent's head, and that Shirai is in her territory now. Kai says she has outsmarted Shirai and that she has done everything on her own to get to where she is right now, and that she does not need anyone to get there. She then says she will beat Shirai at TakeOver and become NXT Women's Champion.

We hear from Ridge Holland, who says that the hype is real and that pain is coming in his Second Chance Match.

Before the next match, Mackenzie Mitchell interviews Mia Yim, who says that Keith Lee is okay and that there is no serious damage.

Mia Yim beats Indi Hartwell by submission.

We hear from Finn Balor, who says it was first about opportunities and now about second chances. He says that everyone watches him, and tells whoever is yet to reveal themselves to enjoy themselves, as they will be easy pickings later.

It is announced via Twitter that Pat McAfee will be on NXT next week.

Bronson Reed beats Damian Priest after reversing the Reckoning into a jackknife pin.

We hear from Io Shirai, who says that when Io Shirai kicked her in the face, she got the message. She says that Dakota is acting as if she is a big star, and that nobody knew who she was until she turned on Tegan Nox. She calls Dakota Kai a manipulator who gets rid of people when they are done. She says that she only sees the cute girl who was scared of Shayna Baszler, and after TakeOver, Kai will be scared of her, as she is no match for her. Shirai says that Kai is in her head, and that she has just pissed her off.

We hear from Cameron Grimes, who says he is in the right place at the right time and he will beat his opponents tonight to climb his way to the North American Championship.

Before the next match, Robert Stone says his brand has been "el fuego," and that he is looking to the future, which is very bright. He says that future could include Kacy Catanzaro, who is hanging out with all the wrong people when she could be hanging out with the right ones. Catanzaro answers Stone's offer by beating Stone up when Stone tells her to "ditch the loser."

Aliyah and Mercedes Martinez beat Kayden Carter and Kacy Cantanzaro. After the match, Rhea Ripley shows up. Robert Stone and Aliyah run away, but Mercedes Martinez stands her ground. Rhea Ripley overpowers her, but Aliyah runs in and makes the save. As Aliyah and Martinez stomp Ripley in the corner, Shotzi Blackheart shows up and makes quick work of them before tending to Ripley.

We hear from Johnny Gargano and Candice LeRae. Candice LeRae says that Tegan Nox needs to mind her own business as she ready a book to her dog. Gargano says that while there has been a lot of fresh faces in NXT, he and LeRae have been the one constant, and as talented as they are, they are not on his level, and while Ridge Holland is big and strong, he will beat him next week. Gargano says that he will go on to become a two-time North American Champion, and the next time he climbs a ladder, he will be fixing NXT instead of fixing a light bulb.

We see Timothy Thatcher teach a few prospects about adaptation, and how to use his body as the fulcrum in a single leg Boston Crab to get his opponent where he needs to.

Next week: Pat McAfee and Adam Cole come face-to-face! Legado del Fantasma (Santos Escobar, Raul Mendoza, Joaquin Wilde) vs. Isaiah "Swerve" Scott and Breezango (Tyler Breeze and Fandango)! Johnny Gargano vs. Ridge Holland vs. Finn Balor and a mystery opponent in Second Chance Qualifying Matches!

KUSHIDA and Cameron Grimes' mystery opponent is revealed to be Velveteen Dream, who has not been seem in some time.

Cameron Grimes beats KUSHIDA and Velveteen Dream to qualify for the North American Championship Ladder Match after hitting KUSHIDA with a Cave-In as he has Velveteen Dream in a Cross Arm Breaker. Since Velveteen Dream as not pinned, he ends up being Finn Balor's opponent next week. After the match, Velveteen Dream snaps and attacks KUSHIDA. Dream soon has a stare-down with Finn Balor to end the show.

Here are the top ten moments from tonight's show!
