Layin' da SmackDown - SmackDown Live recap for March 6, 2018

Dasha Fuentes welcomes everyone to tonight's show, then interviews Charlotte Flair and Ruby Riott - the latter of whom shows up with Liv Morgan and Sarah Logan - in the ring. Ruby says she will take the interview from here, and Dasha Fuentes leaves the ring. Ruby says this all began on November 14, 2017, when Charlotte became WWE SmackDown Women's Champion. She claims that Charlotte is set up for success due to being the daughter of "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair, and that when she won the title, she became the first Superstar to win the NXT, Divas, Raw Women's and SmackDown Women's titles. She began to see the myth forming of Charlotte Flair becoming the personification of the Women's Revolution, and because of that, she formed The Riott Squad to (Riott, Morgan, Logan) destroy the myth. Charlotte says it is a myth that she was handed anything, and that she had to work harder and deal with the expectation on her shoulders due to who she was and what she had to live up to, for if she failed, it would fall on her family. Charlotte says that her achievements have transcended any myth about her, and the reality is that she is standing in the ring and is as every bit as good as Ruby heard. Ruby says that regardless of how Charlotte got to where she is, she is on a pedestal, and that is on the line at Fastlane. When she takes her crown, Charlotte will no longer be the queen, and her reality will crumble. Ruby then says Charlotte will become another bleach blonde with a famous last name, then Sarah Logan and Liv Morgan approach Charlotte. Suddenly, Bobby Roode shows up to guest on commentary for the next match.

Jinder Mahal beats Randy Orton after Bobby Roode confronts Orton on the apron for tossing Jinder Mahal into him, causing Jinder to knee Orton into Roode from behind and hit the Khalass for the win.

In the locker room, Sami Zayn meets with Kevin Owens, saying they both have to be ready for the Six-Pack Challenge at Fastlane. Owens reminds him that it is every man for himself, then brings up Sami Zayn telling him he would lie down for him to let him win the WWE title. Owens still cannot believe that Sami would do this for him, but he says that Sami is an amazing guy. Sami says his time will come and he will be WWE Champions somebody, but for now, they will concentrate on him. Sami says Owens is one win away from becoming a Grand Slam Champion, and when that happens, he will be proud of him. He thanks Owens for everything he done for him, and says he will lay down for him. Owens then hugs Sami.

We hear from Baron Corbin, who says that he is grateful that John Cena is in the WWE Championship Match at Fastlane. He says Cena cost him the Money In The Bank cash-in, and he plans to beat his eyes closed so he really cannot see him.

We see a video package for The New Day vs. The Usos for the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championships at Fastlane.

Dasha Fuentes interviews "The Artist" Shinsuke Nakamura. Nakamura feels his dream match with "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles is in jeopardy, but he hopes he wins so he can beat him with a knee to the throat. Suddenly, Rusev and Aiden English show up. Rusev confronts Shinsuke for hitting Aiden in the throat so hard he cannot sing. He dares Nakamura to face him at Fastlane so he can break him like Nakamura broke Aiden. Nakamura accepts the challenge, then tells him and Aiden that Sunday will be "Nakamura Day."

Becky Lynch beats Carmella with the Dis-arm-her.

In the locker room, Natalya is clapping as Naomi has watched the previous match. Natalya says Becky Lynch because Carmella had the flu, then tells Naomi to stay away from Becky as she burns everybody she is friends with. Natalya says that Becky is smart because she did not challenge her because she knows she could beat her. Naomi, seeing Natalya has a friend in Carmella, challenges her and Natalya to a tag team match against her and Becky at Fastlane. Natalya accepts the challenge.

A man is seen slipping and falling on the ice as the show gives a good shot at the outside of the arena. (It is later revealed to be WWE cameraman Jim Grugan.)

"The Phenomenal" AJ Styles shows up. Styles says that not long ago, he only cared about one person, but after winning the WWE Championship a second time, he is seeing things a little differently. He says it is a grind to get here and reminds him of where he's been to get to WWE, where the grind continues. This brings him to the Six-Pack Challenge at Fastlane, where he does not even have to be pinned to lose the WWE Championship, and once again the odds are stacked against him. Fairness or no fairness, he will fight, for this is who he is. He also mentions that sometimes, you do not win, and last week, John Cena pinned him clean in the middle of the ring to get in the WWE Championship match. He gives credit where credit is due, then rolls footage from Cena's promo from last night's Raw. Styles then says that Cena is not the only one who has to win to pave their road to WrestleMania, and tells Cena that using his rematch clause is something he and the fans do not want. He wants his WrestleMania moment and he wants to defend against "The Artist" Shinsuke Nakamura. He says that almost nobody expected this match to happen, and at Fastlane, he is fighting for the fans and it will be nothing short of phenomenal. Suddenly, Dolph Ziggler shows up. Dolph says Styles used to be cool, but Styles has changed and he is not phenomenal anymore; instead, he is just desperate. Styles says Dolph has been in WWE for 13 years and has yet to reach his full potential, but Dolph says it took 10 years to get to the WWE. He says that Styles will lose at Fastlane because his head is not in the right place for fighting for the fans. Dolph tells Styles that as soon as he lets the fans down, they will stab him in the back, for it happened to him. He says he was told to his face he would never be champion, but he overcame obstacles and proved everyone wrong. When it happened, everyone relished in the moment in unison, even though they sat on the sidelines and did nothing while he was proving himself. He then says that he has yet to have a WrestleMania main event is criminal. Dolph goes on to tell Styles that facts don't care about feelings, and tells him to take his dream match and shove it. Styles says Dolph talks a lot, but since they have a match tonight, they may as well go at it right now.

"The Phenomenal" AJ Styles vs. Dolph Ziggler ends when Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn attacks both men. Ziggler and Styles fight back and clean house, then Commissioner Shane McMahon shows up. Shane says that since Kevin and Sami are feeling the spirit of competition, they might as well turn around and head back into the ring. But instead of making a tag team match, he brings out the best in SmackDown Live by making it a Fatal 4-Way instead. The fifth opponent ends up being Baron Corbin.

Sami Zayn beats "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles, Dolph Ziggler, Kevin Owens and Baron Corbin in a Fatal 5-Way Match after hitting a Helluva Kick on Owens and pinning him to get the win. After the match, Dasha Fuentes interviews Sami Zayn, asking him why he did what he did. Sami says that he is the best in the WWE, as well as the most overlooked person on the roster ever since he showed up on SmackDown Live.

Here are the top 10 moments from tonight's show!
