Raw Deal - Raw recap for November 9, 1998

RAW

Kane shows up shortly after X-Pac vs. The Undertaker gets started, and shoots a fireball into X-Pac's eyes. As The Undertaker and Paul Bearer leave, Kane comes for The Undertaker on the way to the back. The New Age Outlaws ("Road Dogg" Jesse James and "Bad Ass" Billy Gunn) check on X-Pac, and medical staff has to to get involved.

X-Pac is tended to backstage.

WWF owner Vince McMahon tells Mankind that he will defend the WWF Hardcore Championship tonight against "The World's Most Dangerous Man" Ken Shamrock, that the match is no holds barred and that falls count anywhere, and that this is only the beginning and that there are more titles where this come from. He also says that Mankind is in line for a makeover, saying "If you want to be somebody, you've got to look like somebody."

Before the next match, Val Venis catches Terri Runnels sneaking up behind him to the ring, and tells her to go to the back. He then tells the crowd that Deion Sanders may be scoring on prime time, but "The Big Valbowski" is scoring every time. Randall Godfrey and Larry Allen of the Dallas Cowboys are seen in the crowd.

Val Venis beats "The Lethal Weapon" Steve Blackman by disqualification after Terri Runnels returns and hits him with a low blow. After the match, Owen Hart and someone dressed as The Blue Blazer show up and attack Blackman.

Mankind is seen getting a makeover, paid for by WWF owner Vince McMahon, backstage.

Mosh beats D'Lo Brown and "Road Dogg" Jesse James in a Triple Threat Match with a Stage Dive on D'Lo after D'Lo hits Road Dogg with the Lo Down. The match begins when referee Shane McMahon immediately rings the bell after D'Lo Brown immediately attacks Road Dogg, and Mosh doesn't enter the match until shortly afterwards. "Bad Ass" Billy Gunn fights off Mosh, D'Lo Brown and "The World's Strongest Man" Mark Henry after the match.

Jeff Jarrett tells Al Snow says he's got something for him at Survivor Series and that Debra McMichael has got something for Head. Debra says that Goldust isn't fooling anyone, because she knows that he is "100% man under there" and that she will prove it tonight.

Mankind talks about Mr. Socko to the makeup artist doing his makeover.

Before the next match, Terri Runnels shows up in a gold dress and appears at ringside. Goldust tells her she's been a bad girl, and that they had a life together, but not anymore. He then tells her to forget the name of Goldust, that the credits have already rolled, and that she needs to get on a jet and out of her life. Terri tears her cigar in half, throws it at him and leaves.

Goldust beats Jeff Jarrett by disqualification after Debra McMichael seduces him and allows Jarrett to hit Goldust in the head with the guitar as soon as he turns around.

The Rock arrives at the arena.

Jesse Ventura, the newly-elected governor of Minnesota, has appeared on the front page of New York Daily News. WWF owner Vince McMahon has extended an open invitation for Ventura to appear on Raw next week. We also see a political cartoon humorously implying that Jerry "The King" Lawler might be tapped for another gubernatorial race in another state.

Michael Cole interviews The Rock. He says WWF owner Vince McMahon might hold all the cards, but nobody crosses or bosses him, and he will lay the smackdown on "The World's Strongest Man" Mark Henry. Goldust and Jeff Jarrett are then seen brawling, and Debra McMichael is not far behind, as is The Blue Blazer, who attacks Goldust before referees try to restore order.

WAR ZONE

WWF owner Vince McMahon, Gerald Brisco, Pat Patterson, WWF Commissioner Sgt. Slaughter and The Big Boss Man are seen watching the next match from the stage.

Mankind retains the WWF Hardcore Championship against "The World's Most Dangerous Man" Ken Shamrock in the title's inaugural defense after The Big Boss Man nails Shamrock with his nightstick, unbeknownst to Mankind.

Backstage, EMTs rush into the locker room, and Michael Cole reports that The Rock has been attacked.

This Sunday after Survivor Series, the Home Shopping Network will sell some never-before-seen WWF merchandise.

EMTs are tending to The Rock. Michael Cole reports that The Rock has been struck in the back of the head, though there are no eyewitness accounts of the attack.

"Stone Cold" Steve Austin shows up. For the last two weeks, ever since he was reinstated into the WWF with a new five-year contract when Shane McMahon overstepped the authority, he realizes it has been easy for him as of late, as he hasn't had to drive Zambonis or dump cement in Corvettes. He knows that he and WWF owner Vince McMahon still hate each others' guts, but Vince doesn't want to confront him as he is a coward. He says he thinks up plans with his stooges in the back, and if he has one for him, he will bet his ass it will backfire. The Big Boss Man shows up and says Vince has plans for Austin, and they include him. He says Vince has paid well for his services, not just beating him but putting him in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. He calls Austin "a dumb son-of-a-bitch" who does not know what hard times are all about, and up until now, he has had it easy. Times have changed, and law and order has come to the WWF. At Survivor Series, it will meet all expectations. Austin, quoting Cool Hand Luke, says "What we have here is a failure to communicate," and considers that a threat. Austin says he knows about his prison guards and his games, and tells him that he does not play that. He dare shim to come to the ring so he can shove that nightstick so far up his ass he will have to move it out of the way to brush his teeth. Big Boss Man says that Vince McMahon is his judge and jury, and at Survivor Series, they will play, but Austin will pay. Austin calls Big Boss Man a coward, says he doesn't care what Vince says, and that at Survivor Series, he'll beat Big Boss Man's ass for free.

Michael Cole reports that an ambulance has been called and that The Rock will be taken to the hospital.

Michael Cole interviews WWF owner Vince McMahon regarding The Rock. Vince does not even care if The Rock has been attacked backstage, and will not change the stipulation for The Rock's match that if he loses, he is fired from the WWF.

Before the next match, Tiger Ali Singh says he cannot believe that the WWF would want him to wrestle "a dangerous, schizophrenic, psychotic person" like Al Snow, and tonight, Snow will wrestle his servant Babu, not him. As Tiger Ali Singh tries to get Babu in the ring, AL Snow attacks Singh with Head, but Babu is sent into the ring as soon as Debra McMichael makes her way to the ring.

Tiger Ali Singh beats Al Snow after Snow is distracted by Debra McMichael, who is seen carrying Head in her hands and kissing Head.

We see some footage of Sable training for her match against Jacqueline for the WWF Women's Championship at Survivor Series.

WWF owner Vince McMahon, The Big Boss Man, Gerald Brisco, Pat Patterson and WWF Commissioner Sgt. Slaughter mock The Rock for being attacked, and Vince says that The Rock will soon be unemployed.

Kane is seen carrying a can of gasoline in one hand and a blowtorch in the other before the next match.

Kane beats Edge by disqualification after The Brood (Gangrel, Edge, Christian) attack him. After the match, Kane makes quick work of all three men with a choke slam to each one. He then lays them all on top of one another, then takes the gasoline can and blowtorch into the ring. Referee Jimmy Korderas is choke slammed when he tries to stop, and is added to the pile of bodies in the center of the ring. Kane then grabs a lighter outside of the ring, then dumps the gasoline on all four men. Referees show up as Kane readies the blowtorch, and officials get all four men out of the ring. Kane then leaves through the crowd, and choke slams a fan on his way out.

WWF owner Vince McMahon comes out with Gerald Brisco, Pat Patterson, WWF Commissioner Sgt. Slaughter and The Big Boss Man. He is faced towards the entrance ramp as he asks for The Rock to come to the ring, while saying that The Rock should keep eyes in the back of his head s he never knows when someone will attack him. He demands that The Rock come out to the ring right now, and continues to mock The Rock's injury as he does. He says that The People's Champion can wrestle with "a headache," that members of the Dallas Cowboys NFL team are here, that The Rock went to jail the last time he was on Raw and that The Rock would be in good company in the arena tonight as half of the Cowboys roster are convicted felons and that they are on a losing streak just like him. Referee Shane McMahon shows up with a microphone in his hands, much to the chagrin of Vince McMahon, and tells him to cut the crap as he is taking his frustrations out on everyone, including the fans, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin (to which Vince replies with "I hate Stone Cold!") and The Rock, and says it is all about family business. Vince says this is not family business, this is his business, and tells him to get the hell out regardless of whether or not he is his son. Shane tells Vince that if he wants to channel his anger, then channel it on him, because he always did. Vince tells Shane that when he punished him as a child, he had it coming, and he tells him to get out before he has another beating coming. Shane refuses to leave, and sics Boss Man on him. Suddenly, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin rushes to the ring and takes out The Big Boss Man before running off with his nightstick. (A fan can be seen climbing the barricade and quickly being gotten by security when the camera focuses on Vince.) Big Boss Man has to be held back as Austin tosses the nightstick back to Big Boss Man and leaves with Shane.

Much to the chagrin of WWF owner Vince McMahon, The Rock arrives for his match.

The Rock beats "The World's Strongest Man" Mark Henry to stay employed in the WWF. During the match, The Big Boss Man tries to handcuff The Rock to the corner only for The Rock to turn the tables and handcuff Boss Man. D'Lo Brown then knocks the referee out as Gerald Brisco and Pat Patterson try to free The Big Boss Man, and Shane McMahon has to run into the ring to make the three-count for The Rock and save The Rock's job. After the match, The Rock grabs WWF owner Vince McMahon and rolls him into the ring, and Patterson and Brisco get taken out when they try to protect Vince. The Big Boss Man cannot do anything, and when Vince slaps The Rock, The Rock hits him with a Rock Bottom followed by The People's Elbow.
