Layin 'da SmackDown - SmackDown Live recap for May 8, 2018

General Manager Paige shows up to start tonight's show. Paige starts off by talking about Backlash, and says she did not expect the WWE Championship match to go like it did. She announces we will hear from "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles and "The Artist" Shinsuke Nakamura later tonight. Paige then confirms there will be two co-branded Money In The Bank Ladder Match - one for the men and one for the women - and says that she needs the best that SmackDown Live has to offer in those matches. Paige announces that there will be qualifying matches for the Money In The Bank Ladder Matches starting right now.

The Miz beats Jeff Hardy to qualify for the men's Money In The Bank Ladder Match after a schoolboy pin following the Swanton Bomb by Jeff Hardy.

Backstage, Sheamus is eating Lucky Charms because they are the only thing that make him feel better after losing to Xavier Woods last week. Cesaro tells Sheamus that he almost had him, and that he tried to help. When Cesaro says that if it weren't for him, Xavier Woods would have gotten away more easily, Sheamus takes that as a challenge and challenges Cesaro to take on Xavier Woods and see how much better he does compared to last week. Cesaro accepts that challenge, then Sheamus and Cesaro open their gear bags only to find pancakes in them.

We see another vignette for SAnitY (Eric Young, Alexander Wolfe, Killian Dain).

Backstage, Renee Young interviews "The Artist" Shinsuke Nakamura - who is not cleared to compete tonight - who once again tells her "No speak English" and that he forgot how to speak English. He then says "["The Phenomenal"] AJ Styles is nuts...but so am I. We are not finished."

We hear from Carmella, who says she beat Charlotte Flair and that she is going to party in London, England to throw the greatest event in Britain's history. Next week, she will be throwing a "Royal 'Mellabration" and that the royal family and the Flairs aren't invited.

We hear from "The Perfect Ten" Tye Dillinger, who shows interest in wanting to be in the Money In The Bank Ladder Match. We also hear from Naomi, who has been champion and wants to be champion again. She wants to grab the contract and make everyone ready to feel the glow.

Before the next match, Billie Kay says that Charlotte Flair is still an inspiration, then proceeds to make fun of Charlotte's loss at Backlash. She also says it cured her uncle's stutter, and thanks Charlotte for that, then says she wants to bottle up the look of defeat on Charlotte and sell it as a perfume called "Disappointed." Peyton Royce tries to make fun of the look on Charlotte's face, then says she might as well make Charlotte make that face again.

Charlotte Flair beats Peyton Royce with the Figure Eight to qualify for the women's Money In The Bank Ladder Match.

Dasha Fuentes interviews Daniel Bryan, who says that Big Cass attacked him from behind because he made him tap out. As for tonight, he plans to defy expectations in his match with Rusev and prove that the bigger they are, the faster they tap.

We hear from Shelton Benjamin, who says it is finally his chance to take the opportunity nobody will give him, as his best highlight is yet to come. We hear from Asuka, who wants to climb the ladder, grab the contract, and cash in as nobody is ready for her.

Cesaro beats Xavier Woods after Woods takes too much time taking care of Sheamus and jumps off the top rope only to meet with a European Uppercut on the way down.

Renee Young interviews "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles. Styles, like "The Artist" Shinsuke Nakamura, is not cleared for competition tonight. He may have stooped to Nakamura's level, and says if Nakamura is not done, then they are not done. He then says that if Nakamura has the guts, he will finish it in the ring.

We see a table full of disfigured action figures of members of the SmackDown Live tag team division, then we see The Bludgeon Brothers (Harper and Rowan). They say they have their own set of toys, and to come play with them, because they're waiting.

Backstage at gorilla position, General Manager Paige meets up with Mandy Rose, who tells Sonya Deville that it is time to stand on their own two feet. General Manager Paige shows up, and after Sonya tells Paige that she is not their mother and that they have promised not to abandon one another, Paige tells Sonya she is barred from ringside for the next match.

Mandy Rose gets an upset win on Becky Lynch with a schoolgirl pin.

Next week: The New Day (Kofi Kingston, Big E, Xavier Woods) vs. Sheamus and Cesaro in which a member of the winning team qualifies for the men's Money In The Bank Ladder Match! Carmella's "Royal 'Mellabration!" Andrade "Cien" Almas debuts!

Rusev beats Daniel Bryan to qualify for the men's Money In The Bank Ladder Match. After the match, Daniel Bryan sits at the apron, dejected.

Here's the top 10 moments for tonight's show!
