Layin' da SmackDown - SmackDown Live recap for May 15, 2018

It is announced that the winner of "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles vs. "The Artist" Shinsuke Nakamura tonight will choose the stipulation of their WWE Championship rematch at Money In The Bank.

Renee Young interviews Daniel Bryan in the ring. The crowd chants "Daniel Bryan!," and Daniel asks Renee to feel the energy. He then says he was disappointed after losing last week, and even though he is happy to be back, it is not enough for him to just be back. He does not want to be back; he wants to be on top and he knows he has to fight his way up there. Daniel then says he will be WWE Champion before all is said and done. Suddenly, Big Cass shows up, and is washed with chants of "Who are ya?" before saying he is sick and tired of hearing Daniel Bryan run his mouth. He says that Daniel may have the fans fooled, but he is not, and says he knows the real truth. Big Cass then says he was Daniel Bryan's first real setback since Daniel's return, not Rusev, and that he will be the reason why Daniel Bryan will never get back on top in WWE again. He admits that he lost at Backlash, and that he tapped out just so he could get back up and beat him up again after the match. Cass then promises to keep beating him down so he doesn't go anywhere in WWE without a seven-foot shadow following him around. He then goes on to mock Daniel Bryan's record-breaking run in the Greatest Royal Rumble match as well as how he eliminated him from the match, and says he should have found a suitable replacement in the little person from Montreal, as he took the beating he gave him with dignity. He then says that Daniel Bryan is a loser who should have stayed at home and let Brie Bella wear the pants in the family. Cass then gets on the apron, then gets in the ring and continues to make fun of Daniel. This immediately leads to a brawl between Daniel and Cass, and Daniel gets Cass in the corner and stomps on his previously injured left knee until referees break it up. Daniel then runs to the outside of the ring and slams the knee into the ring post repeatedly, then hits Big Cass with a chop block from behind and goes for a heel hook. Cass is screaming in pain and tapping out. Finally, both men are kept apart, and Cass stumbles out of the ring and towards the back as Daniel Bryan is seething in the ring.

We look back on last Tuesday's match between Xavier Woods and Cesaro, courtesy of Progressive auto insurance.

The New Day (Big E and Xavier Woods) beat Sheamus and Cesaro in a tag team Money In The Bank qualifying match, giving one member of The New Day (Kofi Kingston, Big E, Xavier Woods) the opportunity to take part in the men's Money In The Bank Ladder Match.

We hear from The Bludgeon Brothers (Harper and Rowan). They say that family is for the week, that friendship is an abscess, and that joy is a disease. They then say that it is time to bludgeon and that time is up.

Backstage, General Manager Paige tells Carmella on the phone that she will have to make concessions for her "'Mellabration." She is then met by Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville. Mandy gloats about her win last week, but Paige tells her that the match is not a qualifying match when Mandy says she has qualified, but their match tonight is...and that it is a Triple Threat Match against Becky Lynch.

Renee Young interviews "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles. Styles throws out really crazy ideas for what his potential stipulation, and says that no matter what he picks, everyone will be entertained except for "The Artist" Shinsuke Nakamura. Renee Young interviews AJ Styles. Styles throws out really crazy ideas for what his potential stipulation at Money In The Bank might be, and says that no matter what he picks, everyone will be entertained except for Shinsuke Nakamura. He says Nakamura may not know English, but he knows the language of forearm to face, and no matter where they go at it, Nakamura cannot beat him.

Andrade "Cien" Almas beats Jake Constantino in his SmackDown Live debut. After the match, Zelina Vega takes the microphone and says she and Almas were expecting more than Jake Constantino, saying he is almost as pathetic as all the other SmackDown Live Superstars thinking they can beat Almas. She then says they did not come to the blue brand to play nice; they came to take over.

Backstage, Rusev thanks Aiden English for the personal dressing room, even if he could have done better. English calls London "the city of the pedestrian," then says he has a new song for Rusev. Before he can sing, Lana shows up and asks English to save his voice as he will soon have a new song to sing. She then announces that she has a Money In The Bank qualifying match against Billie Kay next week, and says she will crush her. She hopes she and Rusev will take the contracts to become Mr. and Mrs. Money In The Bank and take over SmackDown Live, and they all agree it will be Rusev Day.

It is time for the Royal 'Mellabration. After a town crier as well as some royal guards appear, Carmella makes her way to the ring. Carmella then says she will give the crowd the next ten seconds to prove how much they lover her by showering her with the praise she deserves for becoming SmackDown Women's Champion. Instead of cheers, she gets boos, and complains that people will line up at the royal hospital to see the royal baby but will not give her the respect she deserves, and demands everyone bow down before her. She then says the fans remind her of the rest of the Women's Division, as she feels they think she is not good enough to be champion, and says she is not only money, she is champion, and that makes her better than everyone in the crowd. As Carmella names who she is better than (including Trish Stratus and Lita combined), General Manager Paige shows up. Paige says it is great to be home, then tells Carmella she will defend the SmackDown Women's Championship at Money In The Bank. Carmella says she isn't defending, but Paige says she will, and that it will be against Asuka. Asuka shows up, and Carmella angrily leaves with the SmackDown Women's Championship.

Renee Young interviews Shinsuke Nakamura. Nakamura once again feigns a lack of the English language, then says she should be saying "certainty" instead of "chance" or "possibility" and that he will repeatedly knee AJ Styles in the face until it is gone. Nakamura plans to dishonor Styles before he takes the WWE Championship from him.

Becky Lynch beats Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville in a Triple Threat Match with a Dis-arm-her to Mandy Rose to qualify for the women's Money In The Bank Ladder Match.

Next week: Big Cass vs. Samoa Joe in a qualifying match for the men's Money In The Bank Ladder Match!

We hear from Samoa Joe, who says that ambition has made Big Cass a victim and that the only thing big about Big Cass is his mouth. He says he has faced fake tough guys like him before, and when it comes to strapping his convictions to his chest and taking him through the fire, he will come up short. Samoa Joe says he will go through Big Cass to take the Money In The Bank Contract, and that they will see how big - or small - Cass his when he puts him to sleep. We also hear from The IIconics (Billie Kay and Peyton Royce), who play word association as they proclaim that Billie Kay will win the contract.

"The Artist" Shiunsuke Nakamura beats "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles after pushing the referee into the path of the Phenomenal Forearm and feigning being kicked in the groin to get the privilege to name the stipulation for the WWE Championship match at Money In The Bank.

Here are the top 10 moments from tonight's show!
