Underground Sound - Lucha Underground recap for September 7, 2016

Season 3 begins with Dario Cueto doing pull-ups in prison. Someone says to him "You must have friends in high places." He is freed from jail, and Cueto says "You have no idea." Cueto has his personal effects handed to him by a prison worker (who is played by The Honky Tonk Man), and Cueto gets his first view of the outside world since his arrest. A black limo shows up in front of the prison gates, and Cueto gets him. He finds out that all charges against him are dropped, but someone in the limo with a steel gauntlet covering his hand tells him in Spanish that his next sentence will be death if he wastes his time again.

Dario Cueto is in the ring with his brother Matanza Cueto. He has some exciting news, but first he announces tonight's main event: Rey Mysterio Jr. vs. Pentagon Dark. He also calls Vampiro a pig. As for Matanza, he has defeated the best of the best in Lucha Underground and there is nobody left to stop him. Dario Cueto then introduces his "new concept," which is in a cage covered by a black sheet: Dario's Dial of Doom. All he does with it is spin the wheel, and the name it lands on gets a Lucha Underground Championship match against Matanza. As long as they have not faced Matanza one-on-one before, they are eligible for a match on the Dial of Doom. Dario spins the Dial of Doom, and it lands on Son of Havoc. The match happens next.

Matanza Cueto retains the Lucha Underground Championship against Son of Havoc.

The Worldwide Underground (Johnny Mundo, "The Darewolf" PJ Black, Jack Evans, Taya) enter Dario Cueto's office. Mundo wants the Lucha Underground Championship and he wants it now. Cueto tells Mundo he lost the Trios titles the last time he was in the ring, and Mundo blames it on Angelico...but says that The Worldwide Underground took care of him, which they did by beating him to a bloody pulp and breaking his leg with the trunk door of their car after Ultima Lucha Dos. Everyone, including Dario Cueto, laughs about it, but Cueto refuses to give him the title shot. Mundo then asks for a shot at Sexy Star and the Gift of the Gods title, but reminds him that he and his tag team partners all lost the Trios titles...all except for Taya. Nevertheless, Cueto makes the match, but gives the match to Taya instead of Mundo for being the only one in the group not to recently fail him.

Ivelisse is in the ring. He says that Catrina has cost her matches twice. She wants an Ultima Lucha win, and she wants to crush Catrina's skull into the ground. She demands a one-on-one match against Catrina at Ultima Lucha Tres. The arena goes dark, Catrina appears, and Catrina says "Bring it on...bitch." Ivelisse tells Catrina that she is dead at Ultima Lucha III.

Sexy Star retains the Lucha Underground Gift of the Gods Championship against Taya when The Worldwide Underground's (Johnny Mundo, "The Darewolf" PJ Black, Jack Evans) interference attempt backfires. After the match, The Worldwide Underground attacks Sexy Star, but she is saved by Fenix, Drago and Aerostar, all of whom run The Worldwide Underground out of the ring.

Dario Cueto is making a phone call in his office when Marty "The Moth" Martinez. We find out that Martinez' family is the party that freed Cueto. Cueto tells Martinez not to mention his time in jail. Martinez says it is time to take a slice of the temple, but Cueto tells him if he wants it, he must be ready for war. Martinez says he's ready for anything, but Cueto says so is Killshot. Martinez says he's done with Killshot, but Cueto says Killshot isn't done with him. He puts him in a match for next week for Killshot's dogtags known as a Weapons of Mass Destruction Match, where everything is legal. Martinez then says that if Killshot wants his dog tags back, he'd better be ready for war. Dario Cueto then gets an idea of just how crazy Martinez really is.

Rey Mysterio Jr. beats Pentagon Dark. Near the end of the match, Pentagon Dark points at Vampiro and says something to him, and Vampiro leaves commentary for the rest of the match, simply stating "I can't be here right now." After the match, Pentagon Dark attacks Rey and nearly breaks Rey's arm, but El Dragon Azteca Jr. rushes in to make the save, pushing Pentagon Dark off Rey and forcing him to retreat.

Prince Puma is in the locker room looking back at his match against Rey Mysterio Jr. at Ultima Lucha Dos when Vampiro shows up. He tells Prince Puma that he knows what he's feeling, and that he's been there. Prince Puma says he doesn't need anything, especially from Vampiro when he asks to offer some guidance. Vampiro tells Prince Puma he hasn't been the same since he lost his match - and his mentor - against Mil Muertes, and that if he wants to be the man again, he must beat Mil Muertes. Puma is surprised Vampiro doesn't want him to take care of Pentagon Dark for him, but Vampiro tells Puma "It's not about me...it's all about you."

Here are the highlights from tonight's show!
